View Full Version : Sparkles ?
pbadad 04-08-2009, 08:39 PM #1: How many use sparkles on your plugs?
#2: If you use sparkles do you think they catch more than plugs w/o.
#3: Do you put them on particular color and style plugs?
I realize plugs of old used sparkles i.e. Gibbs, Atoms etc.
I do use them on day colors but never on Black. Heck I don't leave my black plugs shiney after they are epoxied. I take a scotch pad and dull the surface. I have this notion to keep any extra reflection from taking away the stealth look and appearance.
eskimo 04-08-2009, 09:13 PM I use them sometimes to take my eyes off of the ugly paint and crooked lines (thinking about using a chalk line soon)
Not sure if its makes a difference but I do like flair, flashing, sparkles in my dressed tails on needles. dulling the epoxy is a good idea
GattaFish 04-08-2009, 09:29 PM I have a Black spook with tiny red sparkles that is the first plug out of my bag on a dark night,,,,,,,;)

must be why Io reaease all the one I catch on glitter plugs...
I use glitter on white yellow and black... gold glitter on black, silver on all other colors... I apply it when I apply my scratch coat..
Mr. Sandman 04-09-2009, 09:00 AM I like the use of very fine holographic glitter, I think it looks like glistening scales and adds a depth to the plug. When I use them I coat the entire surface. Large glitter looks too gloppy to me.
I fish them with and without. As for if one works better than the other...I think my results are inconclusive at this point. But I think they look cool when done right.
I took a few photos but holographic glitter does not photograph very well on a cheapo pocket camera, they look better in real life.
islander 04-09-2009, 09:47 AM Looks good Jim, where do you get that stuff? I haven't seen it at AC Moore
go4broke44 04-09-2009, 10:25 AM I wonder if mixing some pearlex pearl or interference gold in with the epoxy would work too? it might be too fine and end up as a paint coat though.
Slipknot 04-09-2009, 12:26 PM I am not sure it matters but it sure looks good on the plugs.
The way I figure, if I am gonna take the time to make a plug to catch fish on, it may as well look as realistic as possible. I use the silver glitter you sprinkle on sometimes, I have also used the microfine-glitter you mix with the epoxy in the past as well. I don't think it hurts.
Striperknight 04-09-2009, 01:17 PM warning --- Glitter is addictive.
stripermaineiac 04-10-2009, 08:05 PM Hi all, I've made a few plugs with sparkle added to the epoxy that have pulled some awsome fish to include one over 50 lb-54lb 4 0z and another close to the same size lost on the next cast. Theyve also accounted for 6 fish over 40 lb in the canal. All had sparkle . Blk/purple and blue over white pencils. Looks a lot like scales on the plugs while in the water. Ron
