By a deer tick. Didn't find it until Friday late night. It was on my back and I couldn't reach it. So my crying girlfriend took a hand trembeling shot at it and broke the tick into tiny pieces with the head buried far in me. Ended up in the ER on a Friday at around midnight to get the rest out. I almost went home with the vampire still in me. ER Friday night = not so fun. So be careful I didn't even think to check for them yet. The last thing you want is to bring home lyme to a loved one.

I live in the south end of Westport, for the last couple of weeks I have been seeing a lot of those small ticks...the bad deer ticks.

If you are tramping through the pucker-brush you should tuck you pants into your socks and use repellent. If you have been in "hot" areas you should check yourself...or have someone else check your bod...that might be more fun.

i've had plenty of ticks in me

and so far no LYME disease

but the point i'd like to make is....

ticks don't have a dip stick like a mosquito

they turn them selves in like a screw [ kinda ]

so if you clamp on the body with a pair of
(just before the head)
forceps that you can easily twist or twirl

you can turn them out real easy (counter clockwise)

yanking them out almost never works. :doh:

see the serrations in this blow up pic is why they cannot be
yanked out like a bee or wasp stinger...and must be UNSCREWED

got bit 2 weeks ago.. it sucked.

I had one on me last Spring, freaked me out. Got up to go the bathroom before work, looked down, and there it was. Without going into too much detail, because nobody wants that, if you've ever seen the movie Stand By Me, my ordeal was very similar to the leeches scene.

the only way to inspect your backside

is to have your wife or girlfriend

look real close while naked because some

of those hemoglobin suckers are so dammed small

you practically need a magnifying glass to see them....

so standing there with a hand held mirror looking backwards
at another mirror just doesn't cut it.

this is what you guys in the south get for getting the fish before we do up here :D

no seriously though, Raven is dead on, my brother in law only knew he was bitten when his wife noticed it on his backside as he was getting into the shower.

My husband and I often do our "are there any ticks up my a$$ routine". Half joking half seriously.....

(he would kill me if he knew I was telling this so keep it between us, there is an important lesson here ok?)

One day last year I am doing the "tick check" on him and inspecting the nooks and crannies and joke about how there is one in his butt crack! "oh yeah REAL funny he's says" (hey I thought it was histerical) But anyway I dont see any and I am checking thoroughly. So off to the bathroom he heads....pulls down the skivvies and starts screaming like a little girl and ripping the undies completely off. Yup....a deer tick in the undies......

So the lesson here is check yourself....have a trusted :laughs: family member check you twice....then check yourself again!

I work in an emergency room.... took 2 ticks off people tonight. first thing is don't freak out.....second is to take some alcohol pads (Purell, dish soap, whatever) and startswirling around on the bite-site gently but persistently.....COUNTERCLOCKWISE! this may take as long as 2-3 minutes of continuous rubbing/swirling around to get the little effers off. It works in 3 out or 4 cases (average) as long as you dont try to dig them out and break them into peices first...... then call your doctor and see if he wants to start any ABX- some do, some don't. In my town, they were taking all the ticks in at the public health office for lyme testing/statisitical analysis, and my doc didnt start ABX till the testing came back positive (mine have never been positive so far-(0 for 3)

had no idea. good tip. pulled two off coop already this year.

do the same thing on yer dog..... tehy're usually big and "engorged" lookin by the time ya find 'em on Fido. but UNSCREW those too.....

So be careful I didn't even think to check for them yet. The last thing you want is to bring home lyme to a loved one.

Just as an FYI--Lyme, and also babesiosis and erlichiosis, the other "gifts" from deer ticks, are not contagious. Humans can't pass them on to another human. We are what's called an "end host". They can only be transmitted by a tick bite.

I like your new name better...Yup, foley had one last year and tha Rappin one had one too...be careful out there...I always put on repellent and tuck the pants in whenever I'm out. Not like it used to be.
