any of you guys or gals use teasers on popping plugs? I am a long time striper fisherman looking for new techniques to try in the spring. I am going to try rubber this year (Slugos), even though top water always works best for me. But I keep hearing about these teasers and its got me curious. I throw mostly wood poppers in the 1.5 to 3oz range. Except in mid summer I switch to plastic rattler poppers till September, then back to wood. I fish the flats 3-10ft. of water. Use spinners , 20#fireline, and 9ft rod.

Teasers work great. You tie them on about 3 feet above the plug. Work the plug just like you would if the teaser wasn't there. In addition to getting strikes on the teasers , I think you will also get more hits on your plugs too.

Solid color teasers in white and Chartruese and black work well. I also like high contrast teasers like Black over white. I also like a graded teaser which is white on the bottom then goes tan , olive , green, black from bottom to top.

Some guys tie in a dropper loop and some just tie the teaser on a seperate 6 to 9 inch length of leader from a swivel.

You can use teasers with anything , not just poppers.

I think the teasers give the effect of a bigger fish (plug) chasing the smaller fish (teaser) and this gets the bass competitive and hit the teaser before the bigger fish (plug) gets it! It also gives you a different size offering.

Vary the size and the color of the teasers until you get some hits , then stick with what works. Some guys use multiple teasers. I have seen people tie on 3 and 4 teasers above their plugs. I think this is not a good practice if you are a catch and release fisherman.

If you don't want to use flies as teasers, you can also use small soft plastics, sluggos Fin-s fish, plastic curltails....................

Thanks didn't know much about them but these post will help. How about casting? I would think a teaser might catch some wind and shorten the cast. Though I think I catch more stripers on lures with big bucktails, I sometimes remove them for more casting distance. I assume the teasers have hooks. Where can I get some. I like a 3 ft. leader when pluging. I gotta try teasers! March is only 6 weeks away.............

about 1/2 of my fish came from teasars this year. using unweighted flys and softplastic worms.

I use teasers as well, mostly in the spring. If I remember correctly, Tony Stetzko's monster bass was caught on a black teaser, fished with an eel. I could be wrong, but I thought that was what he said at the show, anyone remember?

That's correct Specialist. I'm not a big fan of a teaser with a live eel but do love them with rigged eels. Can't argue with Tony's success though. I retrieve eels very , very slow (no even slower than that) so the teaser just worries me for possible tangles with a live eel. I guess once you've snapped them a few times on a rock and cast them a few times , they probably are not going to tangle a teaser. With rigged eels , I always like one and prefer the high contrast black over white about 4 inches long (sand eel)

Christian, great to see the teens out there tossing plugs! I wish I could get My teens to toss a few, rather than play video games, but thats another topic. I have always thought that Stripers like an unclutterd rig. i.e. no leaders, swivels or wire. I do use mono leaders (50#) and snap swivels when I need to change plugs in a hurry. When their blizt'en any thing works but in my area July brings a slow down and the fish get finicky. I switch to rattlers to attract the bite. Now thinking teasers could help. I have done very well April thru June, slows down July thru August , then back at it till late October. Best October ever this year. incredible blitzs all day long, any tide. Use to just tie line to the plug but lost to many to blues. Will teasers clutter my rig?

These aee some fluke teasers but it will give you an idea.

I have fished with teasers for the last two years..(Made by fisherwoman & baitcaster) with much success...They will be at the msba show with may of them...

Teasers are the way you catch double headers
yes they work with poppers
flies or small plastics
3 -10 feet of water==== split your fishing up between poppers & plastic I,ll bet you catch more fish///////////////

What hook size used in tieing teasers ??

My Saltheart training has me using Mustad 34007 in size 1/0 and 2/0.

I have used soft plastics on Mustad 3407 in 3/0 and 4/0.

Depends on the specific teaser. I use anywhere from #1 to 4/0. I like to be sure there is a good gap exposed. Since many of the teasers are also used on a fly rod , I sometimes use the smaller hooks. If your will be using them exclusively as teasers above a plug , use bigger hooks.

LENNYR if you would like to see some nice plastics just come to the VFW for the S-B winter its to cold to fish anyway get together on Feb 15. Gs will be there and he makes what has to be the best striper plastics there is!! And seeing as how you are from Fairhaven you can walk to the meeting so you have no excuse. SEE YOU THERE!!!

teasars at night are VERY good. cod fishing is also very good with teasars, normally take the teasr more than they do the jig.

teasers in the morning, teasers in the evening, teasers at supper time, if a teasers above you plug youll have double headers all the time. sorry about that.
