It worked. I picked up the kit. But I have another question. After opening it there was a brush that broke off and took a good chunk off of 1 of the magnets. I cleaned it out and replaced the brushes and springs and even chipped another piece of magnet that looked like it was going to come off. Is this more likely to last a week or a year? with the magnet being screwed up? It's missing magnet around 2inches x 1 inch on one side. And where it was broken and chipped looks clean and secure. I'm not looking for a straight answer but I am wondering if it should be ok for a while anyway.

Probably wont last very long. The missing magnet means one phase will have 1/2 the force of the other, reducing cranking power. if it happens to stop on that dead spot, it may not turn over after that, but as long as it stops anywhere else it will have the power to turn over, so probably once out of every 20 tries or so, it could get stuck... would not depend on it. You need to get it replaced.

So once it gets stuck I'll hit it with a hard object right where it says do not hit with hard object:D That's why the magnet was busted. The guy I got it from gave it a beating. I'm thinking I will use it for now and look for a replacement in the meantime. I have 2 batteries and a saltwater trolling motor to get me back. It's on a 15 ft mako I just use in the river. So I won't be getting stuck offshore. Thanks. And any more info will be appreciated.

When/if it gets stuck you should be able to manually turn it, just past the missing magnet which should allow the next phase magnets to start it moving. hitting it wont help :tm:

I was goofing. Again I appreciate your input. If that thing gets hit again someone will probably call the cops. I will also be tying a rope to a handle for a manual start if she decides to crap out on me.
