This is a cultural thing. Something that's been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years. These people have not shown any progression.

Think of it this way, supposedly, Man started in this region (Middle-east Asia). How is it that they are not the most advanced civilization on Earth?

Because this is a cultural thing and not isolated, it reaffirms my opinion that the world would be a better place if we vaporized the whole region.

In India they still practice bride burnings if the dowry isn't sufficient, and last time I checked India was a good friend of the US.

That's not to say any of it is a good thing, but we must be careful we don't mix issues too much and distract from the real problems.

I believe it does still occur, and while not widespread is simply an example that some cultures still do things we'd like to think were unconscionable.
