So what do you choose to say to a fellow fisherman when passing by?? Do you address them at all.....which may be considered rude, or do you have a certain way you approach another fisherman without seeming like you are looking for fish??:eek5:

If I am approaching a fisherman and I am in a good mood I will usually offer the "Any luck?" greeting. Often times I am known to be moody so I generally will be quiet...especially after dark!;)

I usually go with "Morning" or "Evening". I usually do not try to engage someone who's actively fishing. I'll wait until he's done or relocating to another spot. I don't like to be disturbed when I'm fishing, and I figure it's the same with others. Once I'm out of the water, I'll BS with anyone :D.

Usually it's "hey, how ya doin. Any Luck", then hopefully talk a little then head on my way.

As I walk away I pull out my hand held GPS and enter coordinates and then my Audio log and whisper that "Subject, Q38-711 was approached and gave the followiing information - Fishing was slow but managed a few, nothing big - I then referenced this information against the Biometric profile I took of the subject, which I obtained with my Micro Biometrics chip installed in my Aquaskinz gloves, as I shook his hand. Cross referencing the time stamp on this I determined that subject Q38-711 was indeed forthcoming on the information that the fishing was slow....but do to a Slightly Elevated pulse rate I determined that he was, Indeed, into Large and was covering that fact up. I will cross reference this information against Subject R64-622's Lunar Calender and file in log.

Now I will go say hi to Subjects T54-256 and G39-772 as they chunk on the point, but 1st I need to go back to the truck and get a 6 pack of Truth Syrum.

none of the above,

mostly just say~~~

"Mornin', anything happenin'?"

then, of course, i proceed to plead ignorance on where i've been and what's been shakin' wherever i was,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,fully expecting to have just been given the runaround as well from the angler before me.

i am reminded of the scene from "Princess Bride" in the battle of wits between the Dread Pirate Sir Roberts (Carey Elwes) and the mercernarious MadMan (played by that excellent character actor~ who's name escapes me). he is also the voice of Bob Parr's boss at the insurance company from "The Incredibles".

i've only gotten the straight "scoop" from a couple of guys, here and there along the way.
they know who they are, and i hope to run into them again this year~~
at ALL those familiar places :bl: :bl: :bl:

I like to use pirate talk. Something like " Ahoy Matey, Shiver me timbers is the skallywag fish be a running in this here parts"?

Since I have the boat now, I also usually have a parrot on my shoulders so it really adds to the effect and people really seem to like it.

If I make eye contact, I'll either give em' a friendly nod or just say "how's it goin''. If they want to talk, I'll bs with them for a few minutes, but usually I just keep going along to my spot. If I run into somone at the parking lot before heading out, it's usually just about the weather and no specifics, unless it's someone I know.

I usually open with "Hi, want to see my XXXXX". Oddly most people soon leave and I usually get to fish alone.

The number one Best way to get people to back off, when crowding your spot, go into what I like to call "Jehova's Witness mode" start talking religion and great it would be if they would come to church with you (refer to him as "friend" a lot). If that doesn't work, start praying aloud to God to catch more fish and mention the guy crowding you in your prayers. "Oh please grant me and my new "friend" huge fish, so we might eat them together with the rest of the Faithful. Within 10 minutes you will be fishing solo and at peace once again.

Guaranteed to work, unless it's me, I'll just egg you on and try to convert you to to Buddhism, Atheism, or Scientology. Only 2 options left open to you then, #1 we get a good laugh out of it and catch a few fish or #2 leave.....

A general nod of the head or tip of the cap. Sometimes I'll say How are ya or Any Luck. If I know you then I might chat it up a bit.

This might be one of the best ideas I've heard in a while. Instead of being pissed that they're crowding you, make them as uncomfortable as possible.

Definitely trying this sometime.

I usually say good morning ect....Any Luck? If they continue the conversation I stop and chat for a few minutes then head on my way. If they dont seem like they want to be bothered I leave them alone and head on my way. I usually dont pay much attention to actual fishing conditions they report....just trying to be friendly.

I'll give a quick polite hello, but I rarely ask how they are doing... How somebody else is doing usually has little to do with how I'm about to do... Hey how's it going or how ya doing. Any luck? If you say I got a couple, or nothing doing that's fine. I'm going to fish the spot I intended to anyway. And if someone is in my spot (which is really nobody's spot) I will fish somewhere close to where I intended. And if you ignore me or act like a jackass I will say HEY GO F%%% YOURSELF ARE YOUR EARS PAINTED ON? and probably drop a handful of trebles behind your pampas tires.

Excuse me kind sir, please do not immediately get upset or assume I am here to highjack your spot, tangle your line, spy on what you are doing then run home and post our, i mean your success all over the internet as if it was my information; I have been fishing this spot since my father taught me and intended to fish here all by myself but alas you are here before me so I felt I should at least make the appropriate greeting so that you are not offended in any way shape or form as that is surely not my intention. I will pass by you and find a spot out of your way where there is absolutely zero possibility of my bothering you anymore than I probably already have. Oh yeah, before I forget kind sir, any luck?????

I go with - Whats up? Hows it going? How you doing?
Meeningless questions really, not expecting to get anything but a hello.
Just like to acknowledge my fellow human being.
Not looking to start up a conversation with someone who is fishing.
And if you were to need help I might be the only one around, be it a medical situation or just a light, hey I even have extra eels sometimes.

i like to either sneak up behind them real quite and scream SHARK and scare the Pissa outta them or even better, swim up in front of them...............I have always talked to everyone I come across and have been always more than generous with giving them the truth, wether they wanna give me a line of BS or not. Doesn't matter. I am a social butterfly. Usually just happy to see another soul out there that is insane enough as I am to be fishing the places and times I do. Always good to compare notes, truth betold or not.

Hi , or just a nod. Sometimes a good one if the situation is right is to say "How ya doin". He can take it as a typical greeting like hi or maybe he launches into how he's doing fishing. The choice is theirs. :)
