PROVIDENCE , R.I. (AP) _ A Rhode Island high school student who visited Mexico
is being tested and monitored for a potential case of swine flu.
Gov. Don Carcieri said Wednesday that the North Kingstown High School student
presented flu-like symptoms upon returning from Mexico . He said he has directed the high school closed for the remainder of the week out of an ``abundance of caution.''
Carcieri said the student was not seriously ill, and health director David Gifford said no other students have reported being ill. He said it's just a matter of time before there's a confirmed case in Rhode Island . The state has sent test samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is awaiting confirmation. Earlier today, Massachusetts officials announced that two brothers from Lowell who became sick after a trip to Mexico have tested positive for swine flu.
