I'm thinking about getting a leftover 2002 trooper. Isuzu is discontinuing this model and with the bad economy there are great deals on the leftovers. Anybody have any experience with this vehicle? I'm looking at the Trooper S 4x4 3.5 litre V6 215hp Auto PW PL 5000# towing capacity. It comes with 10yr 120k drivetrain warranty. $21.5k. Its not the hottest SUV on the market but its got everything I need plus the great warranty. I was surprised to see the towing capacity that high for a V6. Any comments?

I has one for 8 years put 170,000 miles on it and never had a problem. It was a 1988 4 banger. loved it

Nice SUV, SB.... go for it if the deal is right

I wouldn't try towing 5000 lbs with that Isuzu v6 tho

I wouldn't want to have to tow a brand new SUV out of the water with my cherokee,,or RAM :D <joking>

Good Luck,
Mike

GM is gonna make the new SUV thats replacing the Trooper. Its called the Ascender and its identical to the GMC Envoy and Chev Trailblazer. Only 7 yr warrenty though.

I was looking at the 2000 Expeditions but thats more truck than I need and chugs the gas. 2000 Yukons are big $$$ and both have no warrenty.

Mike look up the towing capacity on that Cherokee:laughs:

LOL I know the cherokee wont pull crap about 6k max?

But i know the monster ram pulls a big ol' heavy 26' searay pretty well .Boat's about 7,500# +++ loaded :eek5:

..and it pulled a 34' cigarette speed boat-- that was using a 5th wheel hitch tho :D

Good luck with the truck, they are nice looking.... you may also want to take a look at them trailblazers; nice trucks!

Good Luck,
Mike

Trailblazers - decent engine, lousy handling, worse off-road performance, mushy - sadly seems that GM has gotten unexciting with that model... Big step up from the S10 based Blazer but still, a little truck - like a Cherokee... Neither vehicle is good for towing alot near their max ratings but they are good at what they're supposed to do: 4wd when needed on the roads. Just too small for me personally

I had a '87 Trooper II 2 door. Beat the crap out of it for 10 years before trading in for a Gr. Cherokee.

My biggest problem with it was that it was a 4 cyl and couldn't get out of its own way. I was living in Tahoe at the time and the test drive in Sacramento was nothing like the drive over Donner Summit.

Based on the specs and price on the one you list, it looks like a good deal and you won't have the problems I had. Have you checked the prices of used 2001's to see if they hold value?

There was alot of bad press related to rollovers a couple years back. Maybe you could get bit more off if you remind them.
