So I said to the new kid, part-time reserve officer, five tour Irag veteran, NO HIGH SPEED CHASES WITH THE SUV, this morning when I tell him what I want him to do at roll call, because its unsafe at any speed over 50 m.p.h. Basically I want the new guy to take his time. Always ask when your not sure about anything to do with police work, especially when I am the O.I.C.

I have known this kid since he was seven years old. He is my nephews best friend.

First call of the day, 9:02 a.m. mother/son robbery team try thier best robbing my 7-11. We caught them because of great witnesses who decided to participate. Needless to say you have no choice about going after bad guys when the friekin buffoons drive right by you just after I give out the plate and type of vehicle. One of the sedans was right there also, and that officer actually pulled in front of the robbers when they decided not to go down the street in front of the police station. But thats the story of my life, lecture the kid about not driving fast and right out of the gate, on mother's day this heroin addict mother and son rob our 7-11. They were actually id'd from our arrest as doing a bank robbery the other day in the next town. Wearing the same clothes still a week later.

They all boxed in the woman and her kid. They stopped, where they did because they realized the street they were about to turn onto drove right by the police station. They lived in Whitman for a number of years, so are quite familiar with the town. One guy slid to a stop in front of her and she drove forward into him crunching a cruiser door when she started forward again. No one was hurt. The officers, which had a total of six years on the job did an exemplary job arresting them.

We think the kid was probably armed with a car jack, but never showed it. So we couldn't charge them with armed robbery. Nor can you charge them with robbery while masked, which he was because he has to be armed or threaten that he had a weapon to make the masking count towards the severity of the charge.

Two other municipalities are looking at them for bank jobs now. Abington id'd them on one of thiers, so they are looking at some serious time.

It was just so odd five minutes after I gave the new kid a lecture about no high speed chase and he had no choice when the dopes drive by him. They only went about 45 to 50, but that was through three stop signs including the center of town. Since the speed is zero at a stop sign 45 is pretty god damn fast.

Can't people that intentionally drive into an occupied police car be charged with assault?

That is pretty damn ironic. All about being at the right place at the right time and always observe.

It was probably a tossup John about the intentional part. They were charged with more than just the robbery. Thier were several motor vehicle offences as well. The son, the very next day, was due in Superior court for a surrender hearing to go back to jail.

One more thing. There was an old elderly woman standing at the counter with two dollars in her hand to pay for the sunday Herald and the little twerp ripped the two bucks out of her hand as he fled.

The new officer I was giving the heads up too about his driving before all this happened has really been to and from, stationed in, Irag five times during his fours years in the army. I have known him since he was seven years old. I met him during a christmas parade years ago when my nephew Ryan (Squid Kid here), and Pat, jumped into the back of the cruiser just as the parade was getting started. They got a big kick out of riding in the caged back seat during the parade. Now he is working part-time, maybe soon to be full-time with me.

Life is short. Pay attention as it goes by.

One more thing, these perps have the same last name as I do. Its irish for those here who dont know it and it is not that common. All of thier friends who were calling to find out how much bail was laugh thier a#$es off when I answered the phone. Whitman Police Officer O'%^@*^e, this line is recorded.
