Thanks,

Yeah the Cuttyhunk Open is the annual competition with the Connecticut Surfcasters Association, the Cuttyhunk Rod & Gun Club, and anyone else who shows up... It really is every man for himself though. The clubs do like the bragging rights of course...

The 2003 Open (7th Annual) is tentatively set for September 26-27th. 5pm to 5pm (as always with an awards cookout afterwards). Love to see S-B representing...

Love to see S-B representing...

OK - who wants to take these guys & gals on :hihi:

I think you guys were there the week after us last year for your Tourney. We were there weekend of June 15th.

We were also there the first or second weekend (I forget which) of September 2002...

It has been in the Fall the past two years. It originally (first four years) was in June. Last years fishing (see video) was the best yet. In fact, Saturday morning at dawn on October 5th was possible the greatest two hour of shore fishing I've seen on Cuttyhunk in many years...huge bass on poppers in a 25 knot smokey sou'wester... Awesome!

Funny thing is, I was talking to Tattoo a couple months ago and he was suprised when I said I'd but a boat and one of the things I would do is use it to get to Cutty to surfcast :p

cuttyhunter
01-17-2003, 05:36 PM
JohnR,

That bluefish was length not weight. All fish compete based on length not weight because it's difficult to carry fish around on the 'hunk since most everyone is on foot. A lot of people like to catch and release and not everyone has a scale handy. I should also mention that it is all beach fishing - no boats. I've attached last year's flyer so you can get a sense of the rules.

I wish I was there that morning you rocked those fish. But Rich R dragged me out on an all nighter. I am not complaining I got a 41" fish and Rich got a 40". I would have given my left nugget to see what you guys did that same morning we were just coming back and hitting the sack. Right place, right time epidemic again! One of these days I am going to hit it just right! To all the SB folk here if you guys enter and you do better then the CT Surfcasters can I jump ship and come to your side? :D Seeing as I am a long time member here lol. I can tell I am getting old, my back took at least 2 days to get back to normal. Hey Cuttyhunker when you going to make me some nice sidewalks to and from the bass stands????!!!!! At least give us a golf cart 4x4 permit :)

Ok heres the plan for 2003. The house has been sold so we will need to clear the land up on the hill to pitch a tent just to stay out of the rain . I am thinking of going over in May for a weekend to clear a spot on the land, if anyone would like to go I would love the company. I think we can then do a June derby as we did last year and another in Sept. and then the Ct. challenge in Oct. if thats when they are going if its ok with them for us to join in the fun. I am looking at a new tent that will sleep 12 and should have it by then. We will also have a golf cart or a quad for our use for the old timers. Goose one good thing the land up on the hill has a path that leads right to that point of rocks:D :D I hope we can still use the Nor-Easter shuttle but I hear he is looking at changing boats so we will have to see. But Donna Hunters son runs a shuttle at the time you want and would be about the same price if need be. The Fri night over and Sunday morn. return worked good what do you think? I have talked to her about it already and was told it would be no problem if need be. So we will wait to hear from Chet and go from there. I have a list of those that asked last fall to go agian and would not tell anyone they could not join in but would need to keep it to 10-12 like last year if possible. I found that to be a good and manageable number.

JohnR
01-18-2003, 08:44 AM
IN :D - Depending on when in May, I can likely come over & help - depends on the wife's work schedule as she does one day on weekend :(

GBOUTDOORS

John I was planning on getting you and Clammer over more this season. I think I have worked out another pole in the harbor for the season for use by any S-B member that would need to use so long as I got a few days notice so as not to have more that two show up at a time. I would like to see if we can find someone with a dingy that they might like to donate to the cause that could be left on the new pole so no one would need to take one over each time.

01-18-2003, 09:16 AM

GB,

In 99% sure that the 2003 Cuttyhunk Open will be the last weekend in September. As a representative of the Cuttyhunk Rod & Gun Club, I (Slater Anderson) organize it with Rich Russo from the CSA. Any S-B guys are welcome to participate as is any one on the island at that time. The Open begins at 5pm on Friday night, so you guys will need to get there sometime before that to take full advantage of the 24 hours.

John Paul Hunter (Donna's son - as you probably know) is a good friend of mine and I use his water taxi services regularly. He can carry up to 16 people and it cost $18 a head each way last year.

I'm curious what house you're talking about that got sold on the island? Sarmento?

You guys are the greatest and no one owes me anything it is I that got the most out of last years two Cuttyhunk trips not only did I get to the Island house a few last times but I got to be there with the nicest bunch of fishers that I now can call my friends. So please it is my pleasrue to do it all over agian this year :D :D My father is turnning his share of the Island land over to me and my sister so this should keep it in the family forever. Maybe next year a nice 28x36 summer cottage/fish club on the land:D :D I will take you all up on the offer of help and Slip the dingy would be great we will work on it.

Yes everything in the house went with it but someone took all the plugs he could find from the house the day before Thanksgiving:D :D :D :D they should look good hanging in the new cottage up on the hill.

Mike the herring sounds like a good idea and with your boat and mine we could take over enough bait for some real fun. Greg, ...believe it or not, I can do more than dishes :D :D

I'd LOVE to help, and I won't even fish :eek: except for @ night - :heybaby:

Not many members know this but, GB is "ONE OF A KIND" :kewl:

I don't know many people who would invite - literally, strangers to his home, let alone trust them to roam anywhere they'd like...lead them to some select HOT-spots, take them for tours of the Islands on his boat, tidy up the house for us while WE fished ...provide a washer/dryer...grill, stove...my God, I could go on and on, but I won't ..because I don't want someone grabbing my spot!!! :D :D

Thanks again Greg, because of you and your generosity..I've come to meet some great people - on a personal level, explore an Island that had been nothing more than a fish-tale to me. You helped make the internet more real than virtual for me..and I'd like to thank you for that....I'm sorry for getting so mushy on ya...:crying: I LOVE YOU MAN!!
