View Full Version : tubes for a bag - where to buy?
GonnaCatchABig1 05-13-2009, 08:17 AM trying to transform my old bag (had storage boxes in it) in to a surf bag. but can't find any where to buy the tubing. been searching around. every where i find seems to only ship in bulk. when realistically i am only looking for a dozen of each size 1 1/2", 2", and 2 1/2" dia. in 8 3/4" or 9" lengths.
trying to stay away from cutting it myself. cause i am horrible at it.
any body have a source? can't seem to find anywhere that isn't horrendously over priced that sells them by the dozen.
Jorge 05-13-2009, 09:38 AM I use central vacuum tubing and cut it, you can tape it at the site if it wants to splinter
Try the containers they sell tennis balls in if they will fit in your bag. You can usually find a bunch for free at your local court.
PaulS 05-13-2009, 09:52 AM The surfcaster use to sell square tubes. Check out their site. If not, central vac tubing works and is lite.
surfland. pre cut. lightweight and durable. you just need to poke whole in the bottem. they are the exact diameter of the tubes that come in a van staal bag but slightly taller.
HESH2 05-13-2009, 10:34 AM surfcaster has tubes.
Swimmer 05-13-2009, 11:11 AM How about plastic downspouts. Cut to length and then two-part epoxy or rivet together.

All you'll ever need there.
GonnaCatchABig1 05-13-2009, 01:38 PM thanks guys. salty have you ordered from there? if so how are the prices? not looking to spend over $1.50 a tube or i would be better off just buying a whole new bag.
mag minnow 05-13-2009, 07:16 PM I use the central vac tubing. Light and have not had issues with cracking. Comes in 8' sections. Use a chop saw to get a nice clean, even cut. Debur with a knife...
ivanputski 05-13-2009, 07:25 PM HOME DEPOT... The plastic tubes that you put fluourescent light bulbs in... 4feet for 2$... BUT you have to cut it... No problem
vanstaal 05-14-2009, 08:59 AM the best thing is the tubes that calking comes in they sell empty ones and it comes with a hole in the bottom and the plastic is strong too:fishin:

I like that idea
Same as Ivan - they are cheap and work great. If you want a bottom just wait until you come across any sheet of plastic from packaging and cut them from that, superglue or epoxy them on.
Saltheart 05-14-2009, 12:58 PM I have used cut down bottles before. You can use water bottels or soda or some cheap drinks. Go to the store , look at all the variety. I throw out several empty water bottles per week. I'm sure many people do. You just cut the top off. You can probbaly get differnt sizes. One time I bought something like coolaid in plastic bottles. They were like 10 cents. You could drink the stuff or pour it down the drain but you got a tube for 10 cents. These had harder plastic than the water bottles.
Anyway , some of the suggestions above sound good too.
You should also shop around for complete bags. i have seen complete ones for $20. No they are not aquaskins but they do the job and don't break the bank. Mike T used to have surf bags from as low as $20 to up to $100. Check him out at www.capecodtackle.com .
UserRemoved1 05-14-2009, 01:37 PM They are the manufacturer GCAB1. Have spent alot with them the last few years.
