View Full Version : This may be my last season
Bishop169 05-21-2009, 03:38 PM My girl told me a few days ago my house hunt now needs a nursery....
So I guess the due date is Jan 10th that means the next couple seasons I will be changing diapers and feeding a baby all night rather then feeding the crabs
I hope this spring summer are my best season for fishing I'm going to miss it.
On the bright side i get another kid the hard part is my kids are 8 and 9 I was half way free
numbskull 05-21-2009, 03:54 PM Best to look at kids for what they add to your life, rather than what they take away. Any other way is a mistake.
Dad 818 05-21-2009, 04:17 PM Best to look at kids for what they add to your life, rather than what they take away. Any other way is a mistake.
100% correct George. There isn't anything in the world that I could get that would make me regret having my kids. They are the best. Whether watching my girl in chorus or a play at school to watching my son play Little League there is nothing better.
I know my son gets his talent from me...........but my daughter must get her pipes from her mother cuz I can't sing worth a sh!t.
Dad 818 05-21-2009, 04:19 PM Oh and congrats btw! :)

Very well put !!
Congrats on the news and trust me it's much more rewarding watching your kids fish !
ProfessorM 05-21-2009, 07:47 PM You can still fish, you'll just have to get used to never sleeping again. I do it all the time. Best thing that will ever happen to you, better than any 50 lber you will ever get. Enjoy it everyday because before you know it you will be bumming they grew up too darn fast.

He's right (though I cannot vouch for the feeling of landing a 50 lber!! - only a 40 lb from the boat!) the best keeper(s) you will ever land.
Fishing isn't a lost cause, just not as much as before. My eldest of three (6 yrs) has her own rod for her birthday and is dying to get her first striper this year (she got her first blue at 2!). The middle one landed her first fish last year.
Seeing them growing up is amazing. Participating in it, more so.
Backbeach Jake 05-21-2009, 08:29 PM I throttled back on fishing when our two were very little, then I started taking them along. Valuable life skills and all that. Now they're vegetarians...go figure. Congrats, Dad. Little kids are a blast!
bonefishdick 05-21-2009, 09:27 PM I remember when I thought my children cramped my style a little, I still however found some time to get away. Remember your not in this alone, my good wife always seemed to know how much fishing meant to me and managed to make sure I got my fix.
The thing I can say now and what I did not think about back when they were young is when I go fishing with my son now is how much it means to me. Now all the times I did not get to go when he was growing up seems so unimportant and was well worth the sacrifice if it even was a sacrifice. I hope your experience will be the same.

It is tougher to get out there with kids, but I have come to appreciate that time a lot more now too. Congrats on the child, BTW my daughter was born on January 10. Good Luck
The Iceman 6 05-22-2009, 07:50 AM Congratulations.
Sundowner 05-22-2009, 10:17 AM first of all congrats on the third, and thank you for starting the thread.----- Now she will know exactly how I feel, I think I will show her this, thanks all.
Bishop169 05-22-2009, 10:42 AM I'm happy and my son hates to fish maybe this child will love it...
I'm just dreading the bad parts but i'm looking forward to the good things...
I was younger when i had my first two... now i'm older make more money and am a bit better off this time may be less of a struggle but we will see
Flaptail 05-22-2009, 11:16 AM I may not know that much (Numbskull will attest to that I am sure) but this one thing I do know, you never will love anything more than you will your children. My wife and I have been blessed with two wonderful daughters (an old timer Cape Cod surf fisherman once told me that the best striper fisherman he knew all had daughters only, no sons)
My daughters are the light of my life, and to think of what we would have missed if we didn't have children, well.......it would have sucked in plain english.
A couple years changing diapers is nothing, goes by in a flash. I was watching my oldest graduate college last weekend and the whole time I was watching her all I could think of was the first time they let me hold her in the hospital, just me and her in a dimly lit room, where did that time go?
Enjoy, the benefits way outweigh anything fishing can give you.
johnny ducketts 05-22-2009, 11:23 AM My son was born in Dec, Don't think you can't go fishing anymore, I am still able to get up wicked early, (thanks to those 2 am feedings) I am also able to sneak out of the house on Sunday mornings and fish, And the other day my wife suggested why don't I go fishing at night after they go to bed! hell yeah!
I wouldn't trade being a dad for any fish out there. Congrats on the expected arrival of your little one.
Bishop169 05-22-2009, 12:31 PM I agree with you guys I wouldn't trade fishing for kids any day. I am going to miss the late night waves...
I'm sure next summer after the 2 am feeding i can make the 30 minute trip to the beach fish for a few hours and get back for the 6 am feeding...
I'm just in a little shock i was half way to 18 now the clocks been reset....
WESTPORTMAFIA 05-22-2009, 01:33 PM You need to list all of your fishing stuff for 25% of what you paid for it or you can PM me!!!
My son will be 7 weeks old this Sunday. I have been fishing without a problem. The kid has been to the Canal and a beach in Westport already and will be going to register for a tourney tomorrow. Keep the wife and kid involved and you should be fine. The 1st thing the girl asks me when I roll in in the middle of the night or AM is did you catch anything. I'm loving it.
Bishop169 05-22-2009, 01:53 PM 25% off I"m having a baby not cutting off my arms ..Even if I was a doubt i would sell my gear I wonder if you can cast with your teeth.....
Me and my girl haven't been together long so it will be a test to see if she doesn't mind the walking in late smelling like fish.
Mr. Sandman 05-22-2009, 01:58 PM I suppose when my kids were young I backed off surf fishing a bit but my wife undstood my passion. I still made several BI trips, vacationed (with family and fishing rod) on ACK and CH and visited Grandpa and went fishing on his boat. So I wasn't starved but I didn't push it like when I was single... the night after night bassoholic stuff .
When my kids could turn a reel I had them on the boat fishing... I think boat fishing is the best way to get kids into fishing. Cherry pic the day...let them drive the boat, take them to a spot where the action is smokin hot and as soon as they are bored go home and have an ice cream. They will work up to the longer trips. They required short attn span theater..I would fish for scup or small bluefish, whatever was around they don't care what it is. They really loved it and always asked to go. Again, cherry pic the days...No need to put the fear of God into them just yet. As they got older I took them night bassing on the boat and on the shore. Amazing conversations took place on the boat at night that I will remember forever. I am so glad I took them. Now as they are a little older other things distract them from fishing and it is not as cool as it was to them. But the other day my son came up to me and said...Dad, I can't wait to go fluke fishing in the fluke derby this year, can I help make up some rigs with you? I grinned. They still got the desire and I suspect that as they get into their lives post college that fishing will come back to them and rekindle our memories.
Kids are just another chapter in your fishing adventures. Enjoy every second, before you know it you will be dead.
PS, My only advice about kids has nothing to do with fishing...start putting away as much as you can possibly afford for college today, do not delay.
quick decision 05-23-2009, 05:16 AM I thought the I was going to have to give up a lot when my son was born three years ago. And I did. But l would not change a thing. It is better than any 50 you could ever caatch times a thousand. I still fish quite a bit. I fish more at night now after everybody goes to bed. Better fishing at night anyway. Congradulations. And who knows, mabey you will have a new fishing buddy some day.
OLD GOAT 05-23-2009, 11:04 AM Theirs no fishing like kid fishing. You can catch your biggies and you can catch your numbers but the memories that will mean the most are the ones with your kids fishing or not.

Congrats, but nonsense. I got three little ones and I still fish. Just have to make time for everyone, including yourself. Not to mention, its all worth it when you see your first little catch a fish of his/her own.
Conrgats again and good luck.
