Sweetieface 01-21-2003, 03:10 PM sigh, is it June yet?
Help. I can no longer go fishing with my fishing buddy. I don't think his wife is a big fan of us going without her -- she apparently does not understand the idea of FISHING with someone of the opposite sex and how it is nothing to worry about..... whatever.
Anyway. I was hoping for some ideas from you all on how to find a non-murderer, non-freak, non-psycho to go fishing with this year......
Any ways to find a new buddy???
Saltheart 01-21-2003, 03:39 PM Come to one of our gatherings , there is one in February in RI ,and meet people face to face. You'll find some people who live near or fish near you. From there , you decide who seems like someone you would enjoy fishing with and just make plans to fish together. I would advise against just posting something like "hey who wants to meet me at a remote , dark place to fish? I'll be there alone from 9 to midnight!" :)
If you can't make the gathering in February , come to the one we have in June near the canal or one of the other things planned like the rod making meet at Mike T's or the plug making thing that was at Slipknots.
You could even try going to some meetings of a local fishing club.
I suggest you REPOST THE AREA WHERE YOU FISH and maybe someone will tell you about a club in that area , etc. Again , don't be making arrangements to meet someone you just meet on the internet at some remote fishing spot. Too many nuts out there.
Over the last few years , I have met dozens of new people to fish with in all areas around New England. I'm sure you will do the same.
As I remember , you are from around Cape Ann? Ypu should plan to attend the Mass Bass Show in March. Its in Plymouth which is not too far and you will meet lots of people from this site and from around the area there. Its on a Sat and Sunday and Plymouth is not that far from you.
Sweetieface 01-21-2003, 03:49 PM Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, the website will not let me post a reply to your posting....
I was looking for just what you said. A place to go and look for a new fishing partner. Not looking to meet someone online or in a dark place!! Scary enough!
Do you know of websites I can go to find groups, classes, seminars, etc? I am in the Gloucester, MA area....
JohnR 01-21-2003, 04:07 PM Welcome back :D ...
Well, this is the website :D , as for local clubs, there is the Plum Island Surfcasters and Marblehead Surfcasters in your local area. The Mass Striped Bass Association - the largest in the state and of which many here are members - meets in Braintree, Ma. Tomorrow night is a meeting too. There are probably a few different clubs right in Glouscter/Rockport.
Some clubs have booths at the Worscter show in early Feb too.
Those are probably the best local starts. Like Saltheart said, other ideas would be to catch some of our events. And definitely hit the MSBA show in Plymouth this March. About as big a find of saltwater fishing stuff in the Northeast plus plenty of seminars to stoke the coals for a new season.
Hope to meet you at one of the S-B events or at the 4 Leg Catch & Release Tourney!
We also have a few Northshore members - Nightfighter - you out there?
(Be warry of Internet Wackos :hihi: )
TheSpecialist 01-21-2003, 04:09 PM Hi Sweetieface, I was beginning to think you lost interest in fishing. You could try the PlumIsland Surfcasters Assoc. There are closer to you than some other things are. Mass Striped Bass Assoc meets tomorrow night in Braintree Mass, a few of us here attend that. There are some here that fish Boston south to the Cape, and only 1 or 2 that fish up north. Like Saltheart said if you could attend one of the gatherings, you would meet some great people, and forge some new friendships. The one in Febuary is at the top of the page. There will be some gatherings later in the spring and summer, as well as the fall. We post about those a little later on.
bassmaster 01-21-2003, 04:37 PM ask Jenn:D
Got Stripers 01-21-2003, 04:49 PM You can't beat this bunch and I doubt you will find it hard to find someone to fish with, assuming you want to do some traveling:). If your looking for someone to specifically fish up your way, then the guys have already posted on some clubs you could try. I'm always looking for fishing partners and post open invites all the time, but you would be looking at some travel time. I'd definately sign up for the Feb. get together, you will be able to meet close to 100 hard core fishers and have some fun to boot.
Billybob 01-21-2003, 04:50 PM Hi Sweetieface -
The absolute BEST way to find fishing partners is to buy a boat, they'll be crawling out of the woodwork!
Seriously, follow the guys advice.
Bill
mikecc 01-21-2003, 04:55 PM You guys keep mentioning the Mass Bass Show in Plymouth.
It has moved to the Kingston Mall.
BEETLE 01-21-2003, 05:16 PM You began your first post with "is it June yet ? " more like "April" with this bunch of hardcores !! :btu: (you want Stripers sooner than later - don't you ???)
Follow the advice already posted - join a club - any of them - get involved - meet new friends - come to sponsored gatherings - shows ect. ect. you won't be disapointed.
Christian 01-21-2003, 05:24 PM the mass bass meeting is tommorow? whos going, i still havent met anyone from the site. i might be there.
TheSpecialist 01-21-2003, 05:39 PM Christian I will be there. I will be wearing a red Patriots hat and a brown Carhart jacket that says Local 2222 on it.
Christian 01-21-2003, 05:56 PM k:) browning shot gun hat w/ blue sweat shirt.
Got Stripers 01-21-2003, 08:29 PM Christian I may be there, but only if my damn meds finally kick in, been hacking up bits of lungs since Thursday with Bronchitis. Ironic since it's been 2 years since I gave up a 2 pack a day smoking habit. Still I need to renew and get out of the house, but I'll see how I feel tomorrow. John you going and have you got anything solid to report on the booths?
TheSpecialist 01-21-2003, 09:14 PM Bob something good hit me tonight. Bring me some cards if you come. I will put them up on the bulletin board at my gun club. There are plenty of fishermen there. ;)
ask Jenn
BM beat me to it!!!!;) ;) ;)
you need but ask!!! and I mean that!:D (just please tell me you really arent some dirty old man posing as a female as a way to lure me into a sick and twisted murder or something....  ;) )
bloocrab 01-22-2003, 12:40 AM Jenn..
....please tell me you really arent some dirty old man posing as a female as a way to lure me into a sick .... something....
That would LURE you???
Striper SniperX 01-22-2003, 01:18 AM Hi sweetie.
Well, i'm open to fish :D and i'm not a murderer..........<i'm only 16> LOL.
I suggest you join RISAA or a similar group.
RISAA have over 3,000 members and have monthly seminars with always over 500 people showing up... this is a perfect way to meet fishing buddys, and alot of them know there stuff to!
S-B.com *this place* is another great place to meet people!
i don't think i can make it to the Feb Meeting, is there any schedualed for the spring or summer?
I only met 2 people from here an they were both great people- i don't think any of the people here are murderers :D
where are you from?? join RISAA it's great, i'm a new member myself and already met some old time members of the club!
only person i think you have to worry about is bloocrab, he gets CRAYYYZEEE if you talk about useing crabs for bait or eating bluecrabs ;) <just kidding> he seems like a cool dude!
I wanna meet some of yas this summer!
when is the next meeting a kid like me would be allowed at? i can't travel to far so is there on in RI happening??
P.S. "the best way to make buds is too buy a boat"
I gotta boat, not the biggest boat- but it's bayworthy.......and i know how to drive it very well *passed a bunch of boating corses!* theres no people crawling onto everytime i take it out :(
Maybe this summer i'll take 2 or 3 of yas out on it ;)
thanks
Mike
JohnR 01-22-2003, 08:13 AM Hey Jenn - SF seems legit :)
Bloo - you are a crusty old fart
"RISAA have over 3,000 members and have monthly seminars with always over 500 people showing up" RISSA has several hundred members. With their affiliated clubs, including those in other states like MSBA, they tangentially represent 3000 anglers but they don't "HAVE" 3000 members. Funny thing is, I'm a member of 3 clubs (although I limit myself to 1-2 meetings per month) and 2 of these clubs are affiliated with RISAA. That means I'm counted twice in that 3000 number and I'm not even a member of RISAA... Not saying there is something wrong with the club or not, just that you shouldn't always believe verbatim what you read.
SF - definitely check out the MSBA show (OK. it's not in Plymouth but right up the road in Kingston - off RT 3)
Striper SniperX 01-22-2003, 08:45 AM ok but I'm betting more in the low thousands have joined RISAA, counting only RISAA people :cofused:
5 members or 3005 members it's still a great way to meet fishing buddys, that's all i'm saying.
I think the final number was around 497 anglers showed to the show monday night, more the enuff fishing buds :D
Mike
Sweetieface 01-22-2003, 09:13 AM Lose interest in fishing?:?? Who said that?!?! I've been busy, trying not to think about how many months left till I get back out there!
As for the April thing....too cold!!! I think April is cold on a good day, though I'm sure this year it will be 10 below like it is now!!! High of 18 today! heat wave!!!
I missed this site! Thanks for the welcoming. I am going to read all of your suggestions and get on it! I don't want to let any fishing time pass my by, and I refuse to go alone. I also need a mentor, a teacher.....
I will read your replies and most likely get back to you with more questions!!!
Thanks for the response.
PS - Ew, dirty old man trying to lure you into a murder? LOL. I would say the same thing!!! hahahahahaha!! (I still love this giant dancing marshmallow!!!!!)

   It will be a memorable occasion, I promise.....and you don't have to worry, I won't be there :(

JohnR 01-22-2003, 09:51 AM Hey BM - you a backwinder?
bassmaster 01-22-2003, 10:29 AM :D
Christian 01-22-2003, 10:35 AM cant go to mass bass metting, ive got to study for my exams, or thats what my dad says.:(
nightfighter 01-22-2003, 11:40 AM Sweetie Face,
There's a good crew up here on the North Shore, and most are real people, (as opposed to the Brahmins who just want to impress you with themselves the whole time you're fishing with them)
Plum Island and the Merrimack seem to have been the early spots to hit in the springtime. If you are as anxious as most of us, the spring temps won't keep you from casting for the schoolies. I even went down to the West Wall early last April!
I'm in Marblehead, and mostly surfcast VERY locally. Haven't fished off Gloucester, 'cept from the boat last June after the eel boat dumped it's bilge out a mile off Eastern Point. Hope they do that again, was getting big blues, big bass, and footballs for three weeks!!! Was like Christmas in June!
PM or email me to hook up, and I'll get you known to some quality anglers who share this passion of ours. I'll let you make the call, and let the S-B members give their two cents as to whether I'm safe enough to call for some fishin'..........
Ross

Sweetieface 01-22-2003, 01:01 PM Been in therapy ever since!!! LOL!!!
I may need some counselling now that I've come back to this site!!!!!
Notaro 01-23-2003, 04:58 PM I would like to meet a new face and to go fishing with. I don't care if you are deaf or hearing, it's about your willingness and efforts to go fishing with me. Besides, I need to meet new veteran angler. Plus, I would like to learn how to use variety of lures. I want to fish someone in May. Any preferred spot is up to you.
Sweetieface 01-23-2003, 05:00 PM Meet a new veteran? I am no veteran. Sorry, I know enough about fishing to hold in one hand!
I'm looking for someone who can show me the ropes!
RickBomba 01-23-2003, 05:20 PM You should definately come down to the 'dig in RI to meet us all.
I fish a lot out of Rockport from June to October, so if you wanted to get in with me (us) I'm always looking for somebody to split the gas money for the boat.
I've got a "gimme" spot that usually gets everybody about 10 fish (some big) a piece without any of that boring trolling stuff.
I do spend a lot of time fishing and working in my restaurant, so I am smelly, but I'm not old (1 out of 2). Jenn knows the town I grew up in, so I've got that working for me, too.
If you want to go in June, PM me.
BM is much more crazy, but it looks like he's got those backwinder reels, so he could be worth a try.
Later,
Rick
Swimmer 01-24-2003, 01:46 PM :D :D :D :D
Trolling by any other name is still trolling....laughing hard thikng about explaining to my wife about a new fishing buddie.
 :D  :D  :D
Who's on first?
Notaro 01-24-2003, 01:52 PM How can a trolling be so boring? I tried it once and I got nothing. Maybe I can learn something new from anyone here. I would like to experiment saltwater flyfishing or lures.
Notaro 01-24-2003, 01:57 PM Jenn, no one has to be a veteran angler. Any one with experiences, knowledges, and loves for fishing is fine with me. Besides, I would like to meet angler and improve my surfcasting skills and beach reading skills. We can fish together, but I have to warn you that I am deaf. I can read lips well. All you just have to be yourself and be realxed. I can teach you some sign language if you would like to learn.
So what fish do you catch most of time?
TheSpecialist 01-24-2003, 04:03 PM OK ok Sweetieface and Notaro since we are all relatively close, in the spring one saturday afternoon, we can hookup and fish somewhere. I will get live herring, and we should get some fish. Notaro I will teach you all the knots you need to know, and how to rig up for certain kinds of fishing, including chunking, livelining, plugs, teasers, and eels. How does this sound?
Sweetieface 01-24-2003, 04:05 PM I catch mostly stripers. Well, I've only been a handful of times, but have been pretty successful. Except for the boots I've brought in.....
Specialist...LIVE herring??? I've worked with fresh and frozen, but not live......
Christian 01-24-2003, 04:07 PM HERRING = can i come too?
TheSpecialist 01-24-2003, 04:17 PM Yes Christian you can come too. We can go to Nut Island or JFK some place very easy for all to get to.
SF it's an exciting game using the Herring.
Sweetieface 01-24-2003, 07:56 PM Now I'm interested...
When are we going?
RickBomba 01-24-2003, 09:39 PM Careful Billy,
Remember the time you and me planned a trip with liveys and couldn't find any anywhere?
Happened to me a couple of times this year after that.
Later,
Rick
Clammer 01-24-2003, 10:01 PM Bill ,Take them in April = plenty of buckies =no fish
JohnR 01-24-2003, 10:05 PM Bill - can I come too? Yer gonna need a bigger livewell :D
SF & Notaro - swimming live buckeys is some of the most fun fishing out there - very good fishing too most of the time.
Jenn, no one has to be a veteran angler. Any one with experiences, knowledges, and loves for fishing is fine with me. Besides, I would like to meet angler and improve my surfcasting skills and beach reading skills. We can fish
uh....maybe I am lost here...but do you have sweetie and I mixed up???
(but either way, I am not a "veteran" either ;) ! but I am always game for fishing with and meeting new people!!!:D :D :D )
TheSpecialist 01-25-2003, 07:40 AM John bring your livewell and sandsled to work and we can hace a striped bass/ livebaitathon.
Rick I will check for them, when I get them consistantly then we go. If all else fails get Weymouth permit.
Jersey_Jim 01-25-2003, 08:18 AM Sweetieface; You may need to change your email handle to something like "Warthog" or "Wolf Fish".....something like that would ease the naturally suspiciouus mind of a signigficant other !
<GGGGGG>
;)
Got Stripers 01-25-2003, 09:43 AM Hey if the timing is right I'll volunteer to come with some backup herringhttp://www.ledgerunnerbaits.com/sp7.5.jpg , they aren't live but work pretty darn well. These don't require buckets, oxygen and last a long time on a hook:).
Sweetieface 01-25-2003, 08:12 PM The name is actually an old family joke. Warthog does have a wonderful ring to it, I will consider that one. I'll put it on my list next to Pus-ball, or vomitbrain....
Ok, so I am reading all of your entries, and its mostly greek to me. Buckey's, liveys? Help me out here, gang. I know about four words: bait, rod, line, hook. Yah, thats pretty much it...
JohnR 01-25-2003, 08:21 PM Buckey's, liveys?
Live Herring Bait...
Like feedin the bass a big fat marinated steak :D
redcrbbr 01-25-2003, 09:37 PM John bring your livewell and sandsled to work and we can have a striped bass/ livebaitathon.
now this could be interesting!!!!!!!!!! soon as i get the ice out of my livewell
hace???
TheSpecialist 01-25-2003, 11:39 PM Red leave the ice in there and we can get ome eels. :laughs:
Pussball thats funny......

Hmmm,
I'll just break off your claws/limbs- cut you in half, remove your top shell and fish for Tautog................LOL, just playing around :D
Sweetie- looks like you found plenty of fishin' buds....these are a good bunch of people i bet you will "match-the-hatch" with someone... :D
goodluck,

Mike -aka- (bassmaster) on the Ave Maria Charters also produces good fish when your ready for some heavy - duty boat fishing.
Notaro 01-29-2003, 01:53 PM Hey guys, don't forget to include me, alright?
Thanks.
Notaro 01-29-2003, 03:37 PM Hey gang, since all of you are planning a trip for Spring and Summer, I have something to tell you. I can get us free mackerals, croakers, mullets, herrings, and big-ass squids from my Uncle Luke's Asian supermarket in Chinatown. So what do all of you think?
JohnR 01-29-2003, 03:54 PM I use mostly live eels (a lot smaller than the congers in C-Town :) ) or plugs. I might swim a live herring or pogie but I rarely fish cut bait on the bottom. Just me :) ... But you're more than welcome to bring some bait and a spike when we get together this year.
TheSpecialist 01-29-2003, 03:55 PM Joe this is a small spring trip for you, Christian, and Sweetieface, to learn some new knots, places to fish, and techniques. I will be pm'ing you in the future about it. We will shoot for sometime in May.
Christian 01-29-2003, 04:11 PM spring feels so far away!! the second i hear of schoolies off to blacks creek i go.
specialist, you fish there last summer?
TheSpecialist 01-29-2003, 04:35 PM Only once or twice. I made many trips to the cape in the spring.
Notaro 01-30-2003, 04:38 PM Specialist, what is the most productive spot on the shore and on the water of Cape Cod?
TheSpecialist 01-30-2003, 04:41 PM Notaro there are many spots on the Cape that can be productive. The best thing to do is get a mapbook and drive. That and watch the fishing reports.
Notaro 01-30-2003, 04:42 PM Do you think that fishing on the Cape is most difficult and challenging?
Christian 01-30-2003, 05:32 PM specialist, you ever fish plum island? like fishing the river mouth.
thats where i do most of my late night stuff.
this is turning into an ask specialist thread.:D
TheSpecialist 01-31-2003, 08:46 AM Notaro it is not extremely difficult. The challenge lies in finding the spots. :D
Christian I fished PlumIsland once or twice. In my opinion, if you are going to drive an hour to there, why not drive an hour to the cape. You would'nt be dissapointed.
Saltheart 01-31-2003, 10:00 AM Vomitbrain! Now that is an interesting name . You read it , you form a mental picure , hmmm I'll swear I can almost smell it! :)
Quite creative sweetieface. I think you should stick with sweetieface! :)
Notaro 01-31-2003, 06:17 PM Christain, I hope that you are right. Except that I need to learn how to read water and use lures. And I need to learn how to mimilize my excessive gear because I can't stand my dad's whinning abt it and laughing at me. Where do you fish at CC?
Notaro 01-31-2003, 06:20 PM Hey guys, do you know what? It's already too long now! I want to FISH NOW!!!! I am losing my mind now. WAHHAAAAAHWAHHHHHH... :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :af: :af: :af:  :smash:
