XRA 1322 w/ Abu 7500 c3ct w. 65 lb power pro

VS.

XRA 1322 w/ Embelm 550 pro w/ 50 lb power pro..

*both using a 3 oz. guppy pencil

The EMBLEM won every time to my surprise by about 20 to 30 ft..

After seeing all these guys at the canal using spinning gear these days, I figured I had to see what all the fuss is about so this weekend I got a 1322 with an emblem and WOW am my surprised.. The only reason I dealt with the 7500 was for distance.. I consistantly outcast my 7500 today at the pond everycast and I was really laying into the 7500.. After seeing that, I feel there is not much benefit to using my 7500 anymore for plugging.. It such a PIA working pencils with it as well.. Just thought I'd share my results.. Maybe someone else can cast the 7500 further but for me the Emblem is taking its spot for plugging..

I know. That is why I am going that route too. Been plugging with conv. for 20 plus years there and by this time next year, maybe sooner, I will be a convert too. Hell even Ron Arra is using one. I'll still carry one conv. but I saw the results a year ago and knew I was missing the bus. Thanks for the reassurance.

If you think it casts well with 50#pp, try the same setup with 30#PP and you'll gain even more distance. Not sure I would stick with the 30# for jigging, but you can really launch a pencil or any other plug with the lower diameter line.

..if you really want to increase you casting distance........close the bail before you cast.

:btu: Yep, works everytime! Loud pop and the farthest cast ever! Only problem, I've never caught a fish casting like that, great distance though.

Hi PM,

How was your 7500 set up? I use the xcra1322-2 a lot.

sean, my 7500 was set up with the brakes removed, ceramic bearings, and the 65 lb power pro (just added the powerpro for testing cause I figured it would cast further).. The thing throws wood amazing, but somehow I was able to beat that distance with the Emblem.. I was really surprised. I really like my 7500, but for plugging, if I'm not getting the same distance as I am with a spinner, its too much of a pain to use.. I spend too much time paying attention to how neat I stack my line, when I should be paying attention to the breaking fish out in front of me..

Thanks PM,

Sounds like you have a great set up with the Emblem 550.

Wishing you many big fish with that rod and reel.

I've been distance casting for years, started out the Arra route with a Newell 220. The old theory was that line coming off of a spinning reel comes off in a coil and slaps the guides the length of the rod, creating friction and decreasing distance, while line coming off of a conventional shoots straight down the guides with less friction hence more distance, but with braid and the ease it slides through glides I think that is out the window and spinning reels are the way to go. No one ever seemed to account to the energy needed to spin the spool of the conventional reel decreasing distance. I use an Ahab 12 with 15 pp 40 shock, and can hit 140 yards on a good day. I don't think that the Ahab is the best distance reel; I use it for the drag and because I've been using them for years (since the eeling days).
