Interesting weekend with a lot of decent size fish (no real large though). However, I lost

2 1/2 oz Yellow AH pencil - Sat. morning
2 1/2 oz silvery yellow BF pencil - Sun morning
2 1/2 oz wonderbread Fixter pencil - Sun morning
RM smith danny - Sat evening
white/pink BM danny - Sun morning (my swivel was open :whackin::smash::mad::huh:)

I /ve been lucky in the past with only losing very few plugs. Now I've got to try to restock for the Cutty trip this weekend.

Help cheer me up by telling me whats the most plugs you lost over a short period of time.

Whilst bonito fishing with 10# test there has been days were spanish mackerel mixed in and caused casualties in the 4-7 range on any given morning. Those razor teeth put a hurt on my wallet but it is the price of doing business and most bone jigs go for $4 -$10 so its not nearly as painful as losing a few wooden customs.

I loose a bunch to trees during the river action each spring. I've lost so many in the summers since the seal population exploded on the outter Cape 4 years ago.

I didn't lose a single plug all of last year, which was remarkable since I fish plugs 95 % of the time. My luck definitely didn't carry over to this year, though. Last week I lost a blurple 2 oz. RM Smith swimmer on a bail flip over. Worst part of it was that while I was re-tying, a fish came up and took the drifting plug which was moving pretty good in the current! I'd never seen that happen before. This past Saturday, I took a Hab's Jr. stubby out of the package and clipped it on. First cast, I get a nice fish. Second cast, my braid parted and so long plug. At least the fishing was good.

I'm always amazed at how a dead-drifting piece of wood with steel hanging down from it can illicit a strike.

I also finally slowed myself down last week to discover how effective slow dragging a needle can be - seems so unintuitive and unnatural yet so effective.

thats funny, i find lots of plugs in fish heads washed up on the beach. i thought you guys were just setting the hook too hard and breaking the fishes neck and your line ay the same time!!!

Normally I walk the beach early in the morning and find most of the stuff the tourists loose. Also If I am desperate I will put my lobster pots within casting range of known hot-spots...this usually yields a bi-weekly bounty.

(just kidding ):hihi:

One time I had a line problem and I snapped off 3 tins in a row. That was the worst. When the last one flew into outter space you might have heard me scream WTF!! I took off the reel and threw it into the back of the truck while murming 40 years experience all for naught!:realmad: (It happens to everyone now and again)

Last year I think I lost two or three plugs total.

I lost at least 9 or 10 one season when I changed over to braid and suffered some snap offs. I was using 30# PP on an Okuma.... Went up to 50#PP and got a used VS200, problems with snap offs gone.

I also had my Blazer broken into while fishing years ago.... Don't even want to think about that... Had a good collection of Habs stuff and Tattoos too, mostly NIP. Since then, I just can't bring myself to buy multiples of favorite plugs, back ups to back ups. Nor do I carry as much that gets left in the vehicle while fishing, anywhere....

I've lost one or 2, not bad.
Dad on the other hand.. I still haven't forgiven him for losing my favorite Wonderbread one. :wall::rollem:

I had some friends & their kids fishing 4 of my poles in a bluefish blitz and they managed to loose about 15 tins (yes my whole collection and I am STILL trying to rebuild it! HAHA) not to mention about another twenty or so assorted plastic lures & rubber shads. the blitz lasted a couple HOURS! I hate to think of the $$ that was lost that evening but no amount of money could buy the laughter and enthusiasm they showed and in return gave back to me! I was retying and scrambling for more gear the whole time I didnt even fish myself and yet it was one of my most cherished fishing moments! They offered me $$ to replace and still try to make up for it to this day and I have yet to accept a dime because I feel I have already been paid.

I always lose a bunch this time of year.
Paul, I threw a nice plugcaster pencil into a tree that I can send you to find. I haven't gotten back as I am inclined to not going in alone.
The evening I lost it I met "Clayton the molester" who was sitting by the railroad tracks with his drawers down and then accosted me about what a great spot it is for pleasuring ones self. Don't need the plug that bad myself :tooth:

I once went out to Monomoy and was supposed to primarily fly fish for stripers. I brought a regular rod too but forgot my leader materials.

Seals moved in so there were no bass on flies to be had. the blues were around so I settled for popping up blues. You can imagine what happens when you fish for blues with no leaders.I lost 6 atom poppers to blue fish that day. I think that was my worse day.

I do have a story though about when I was young , about 13 years old. I had just graduated from fishing worms to fishing lures. I saved my money so i could but a big rubber worm with a spinner in front to go after largemouth bass. this when $3 was a lot of money to most and a fortune to a 13 year old kid. After practicing casting for hours every day , day after day , i went down fishing. On my first cast i cast clear across a stream and lost my rubber worm in a tree. That killed me!! I still remember it to this day as one of my worst fishing mistakes ever. :)

I only lost 1 last year myself it was on a fish. I probably lost 6 others that I let other people use all over 20 bucks a whack. And none were replaced. I'm not sharing anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This year so far I left one of my fav plugs behind.

You and I fish the same areas this time of year so I've been lucky not to run into him. I no longer see any homeless folks in the area with the improvements. Somehow its lost its charm (not to mention a lot more crowded!).

Sauerkraut came by my basement and I lost six.

I lost four needlefish one night last summer out at the Race, P'town...all with fish attached...to seals. While it was easy to replenish my needlefish supply from Numby when his dog isn't looking, it is not so easy to get in front of a school of big beach bass in anybody's territory.
