Went to First Light Anglers seminar early in the year. This video was shown I believe by the federal fisheries officer and he spoke about it after. Not only is it not legal all three people involved ( the cameraman) are being prosecuted for taking this tuna! I had no idea this was illegal! I asked him if it was because they had no license and he said it was illegal even if they had a license! Kind of confusing as rod and reel guys stick them at the boat all the time, is this legal?

OMG so clearly illegal. F'n Losers, catch it and let it go at least. I hope they get punished good.

My understanding is that BFT can only be taken in a boat with an appropriate license. Taking a BFT by any other means is illegal - including landing one from shore, or say, in the canal like someone did last year.

I'm curious as to how they got that fish corraled in like that . I was disappointed to see them kill it. It would have been cool if they let it go.

Anyway , I understand they need a permit but why is tuno only allowed from a boat? What's the difference whether you are standing in a boat or on the shore?? this is an honest question and not a PITA or anti boat fish question. I just don't understand why it makes a difference where you are standing if you have the permit.

Because of the fact that Tuna are federally managed and how they assign the licenses and track the fish taken.

Weight minimum is 300 #'s for bluefin, is it not, plus all the other rules thrown in.

neat video nonetheless I dont know what i would do if I landed a tuna from shore, if I had a camera and could take footage and/or pics, id probably let it go. Ill cross that bridge when I get there
