MAKAI 07-02-2009, 04:33 PM Longer, I bet they try and let the ( I wanna go to Brazil just so I can eat the little bastards for breakfast , lunch and dinner ) Plovers pushed out by the storm renest. :fury: tattoobob 07-02-2009, 04:40 PM Great just in time for my Vacation, :lossinit::splat: I told my wife this would happen piemma 07-02-2009, 04:49 PM Bob, fish RI, BI, Montauk. I stopped the Cape thing in 2003. Too much of a hassle with the Feds, the birds, the seals, the mung, the lack of quality fishing and the traffic. BigFish 07-02-2009, 05:01 PM Glad I am not booked in Wellfleet until end of August then!:bounce: tattoobob 07-02-2009, 05:43 PM Bob, fish RI, BI, Montauk. I stopped the Cape thing in 2003. I would but the wife likes to take her vacation in Turro, I pretty much have no say, and if it keeps her happy :lasso: We used to go to Block Island for a week at the end of June but I was told I left her alone to much and she won't go back with me. I kinda messed up a couple of years back, by never being home and taking to much time out of work, I lost 2 jobs and almost my wife, I have to tread lightly now. I guess I had the Striper fever JohnnyD 07-02-2009, 06:19 PM What's the Race? ugh... MAKAI 07-02-2009, 09:02 PM I say we pool our money together to send that hot dog eating japanese kid to south america. To set the new plover eating record.:uhuh: Slipknot 07-02-2009, 09:46 PM Good, now the real fishermen will be in the congo line and less crowded, I hope the seals get the message too. I might just have to take a ride out there someday. Back Beach 07-03-2009, 05:00 AM I always rejoiced when things got shut down as the walking never bothered me much. Most nights you'd be all alone up there, which was a good problem to have. Same thing on the back, as long as there was a small strip to launch my boat from it was business as usual. If things work as they have in the past with regard to fishing from shore, the race will usually peter out within the next 7-10 days anyways. The boaters will still do ok though. NIB 07-03-2009, 07:26 AM He said "Peter Out" Is that the race or P-Town.. :rotflmao: 2na 07-03-2009, 08:33 AM the 45 minute walk is a good way to start the day. Only 3 hardy souls this AM, plenty of elbow room. They'll open the accesses soon enough. MAKAI 07-03-2009, 08:49 AM Funny as much as I am a little arthritic, some motrin and a bit of a walk without taking all the plugs I have just what generally works. Helps out the kinks and you don't have to worry about the mob of googans , just have to scare away a few mo's.:walk: By my gps my avg nite of fishing is about 3 miles or so. saltfly 07-03-2009, 08:58 AM the 45 minute walk is a good way to start the day. Mike P 07-03-2009, 09:17 AM When I lived and fished on Long Island, I always liked going to the spots that required a bit of a walk to access. It reduced the aggravation factor about ten-fold :btu: Kierran 07-03-2009, 11:16 AM I got the oversand pass for the week of 7/11. Any chance by then? I don't mind the walk; it's a tougher sell for the other half. piemma 07-03-2009, 11:40 AM Clay Banks:walk::hidin: Back Beach 07-03-2009, 12:26 PM He said "Peter Out" Is that the race or P-Town.. :rotflmao: Stick with golf, please... :thanks: Back Beach 07-03-2009, 12:32 PM Funny as much as I am a little arthritic, some motrin and a bit of a walk without taking all the plugs I have just what generally works. Lots of times with the truck you drive right by pods of fish becuase you have a predetermined place you're heading to. When you're on foot it can be advantageous as you comb every inch of the beach as you make your way along. One time on the back there was a good pick of fish going and it fizzled out. A conga line of trucks exited the beach as if they were being led by the pied piper...anyways I had walked in quite a distance from the HOTM parking lot up to high head and I ran into a school of monsters on the way back without another soul in sight. Having the trucks out there is very efficient no doubt, but the guys willing to walk will pull the better numbers many nights. Man I used to like that stretch of beach, dove on it close to shore, all big cobble for a thousand yards, 30 to 50 yards off the beach, choked with crabs. Most of its filled in but still have had my moments. I do plenty of walking now. piemma 07-03-2009, 04:25 PM Lots of times with the truck you drive right by pods of fish becuase you have a predetermined place you're heading to. Lanny, Chucky, Ed and myself were in that conga line... 2na 07-03-2009, 06:24 PM for all of you that got passes (weekly or otherwise), there is about 3/4 of a mile open at High Head. lurch 07-04-2009, 08:14 AM I feel great after walking along the beaches. It is not any worse than the walk out to squibby. The problem is that the walk back after sun up gets very hot (not this year though :) ). Kierran 07-06-2009, 11:00 AM Bump. Any updates? Heading up next weekend. Thanks in advance. I guess I had the Striper fever You should convince her to do a trip out to Montauk. Plenty to do during the day and plenty of fishing at night. Kierran 07-06-2009, 02:01 PM I think I'll do Race Point solo and put on the walking shoes. For the girlfriend, Coast Guard will suffice. Get there at 5:45 and air down and be on the beach for 6 p.m. - hopefully see a nice sunset and seal watch ;) JohnnyD 07-06-2009, 03:34 PM I think I'll do Race Point solo and put on the walking shoes. I don't believe there is anything immediately off Coast Guard for airing up. MAKAI 07-06-2009, 07:15 PM sonnys Moses 07-07-2009, 05:40 AM Didn't see a sole out there last night fishing. Fish busting everywhere w/i 25 yards of shore, both bass & blues. Moon looked awesome too. Kierran 07-07-2009, 08:52 AM sonnys Can I assume that is a gas station within a short drive? Thanks for the heads up. Rappin Mikey 07-07-2009, 09:31 AM Head towards Boston about 1/2 mile after you get off of High Head Rd. On the left right across from Montanos. It sneaks up on you so be careful. Kierran 07-07-2009, 12:47 PM Thank you ^ Rappin Mikey 07-07-2009, 01:32 PM I meant on the right. Montanos will be on your left. fishpoopoo 07-08-2009, 07:12 AM Good, now the real fishermen will be in the congo line and less crowded, I hope the seals get the message too. I might just have to take a ride out there someday. The image in my mind of Bruce schlepping out to RP with three bowling bag's worth of plugs makes me LOL. Sweetwater 07-08-2009, 08:40 AM In a news release dated July 7, the Park Service indicated that after the recent nor'easter fifteen plover nests (73%), 53 plover chicks (52%), and 90% of the seashore's least tern nests were lost. Since the birds will re-nest, I would expect that this will mean longer closures depending on the nesting sites. There are still a lot of fish around my neck of the woods but you have to do a little walking (good exercise anyway) :) MAKAI 07-08-2009, 08:59 PM YOU !! WALK ... WELL MAYBE A LITTLE. TO YOUR BOAT. JohnnyD 07-08-2009, 10:53 PM YOU !! WALK ... WELL MAYBE A LITTLE. TO YOUR BOAT. He walks down to the neighbor's sometimes too. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
