Got one today on the spinning gear. Headed out late with Matt Grady and was on fish the minute we got out to the time we left. Found fish crashing bait, but they were to spotty. Ended up running south and finding thousands of fish. First cast we double up. Matt breaks his off with 50 yards of line left on his stella and I manage to keep mine on for an hour. Passed the rod 6 times before matt made the deathly hail mary shot with the harpoon. 66'' fish in the boat! After that we took the hooks of the poppers and watched as fish after fish smashed the poppers. Fun day, even saw a couple giants on top. Matt will have more pictures of the rod doubled over, about to break in half.

Great looking fish. What do you use for a setup?

Nice job guys! Curious re the spinning gear you are using this season since fish are bigger?

That fish was taking on a tsunami rod with a shimano saragosa reel. The other set up we had was a st. croix with a stella. Both have 65 pound braid with 100 pound mono leader.

What was the rating on the tsunami? Last year we hooked up a similarly sized fish and a Shimano Trevala Extra Heavy was completely maxed out.

Edit, And I'm guessing the saragosa was at least the 8000 model?

Thanks in advance.

nice fish, just picked up the same rod, guess I don't have to worry about it being strong enough, checked on a prop for you, don't have one exact but something close shouldn't be a problem, I need to see your old one to match up though
