Hey guys, I was fishing down Wings Neck on my uncle's backyard and I was catching scups last night. But also baby black seabass and dogfish. Just curious, are scups as active as stripers and blues? I find this hard to believe because I naturally assumed that scups aren't nocturnal predators. Can anyone here care to enlighten me about this topic?

Thanks.

PS: I was hoping for a fluke last night. =/

A friend of mine doesnt scup fish during the day, says its a waste of time. Ive only fished for em during the day, switching over to bass at night.

That was what I was tryign to do, but I didn't expect them to be hitting it at night.

yeah ...and if you can cut a fin a bit, to injure them a bit more ... boy that's one distress signal that will get heard around the area ... bass love scup ...

I've seen people fishing for them at dusk at spots I fished. Three guys fishing and they had this older woman filleting them - she was an expert - she had about 1/2 a five gallon bucket of fish store quality fillets.

Yeah, but why would they be active at night, Joe? I thought that they are more of daytime fishes.

I don't know - but this time of year there is very little true night and last night the moon was screaming bright.

I catch them at night with no problems. If they are around they will bite just like daytime.

That's what I was thinking of. Saw the moon and it had something to do with it.

Joey, don't forget that the regs still apply for scup used as bait. Is it still 10" min? That's what it used to be when I left.

10.5. But I don't use it as a bait. Hardly see any bigger fish around.
