I have an older Yami 2 stoke and it runs great all day until I pull into my marina and then the engine cuts right before dock everytime. The wierd thing is that I can run to the fishing spot and then troll at low RPMs with no problems. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How long are you idling/low RPM before you get to your slip/dock?

It could be the throtel postion sensor... how old of an engine is it... this happens a on the hpdi's and 4 strokes... Give me the year and I will check

That's exactly what my 1987 Merc (175) has been doing lately. I am going to adjust the idle up a bit today and see if it helps. Usually happens when pulling in or out and I am going to or from neutral to either reverse or forward. It is rare on the outbound but has happened, and lately almost always stalls on inbound marina. I'm heading out soon and will try the idle and post back here how it went.

is there a cut out switch on the shift linkage that disrupts the ingition?
I know inboards have this so it doesn't slam into gear.
I forget on outboards?

You guys all using the Star Brite fuel additive for the Ethanol fuel?

My 70HP Johnson was stalling out later in the day at low rpm's as well. Went to the Star Brite Enzyme fuel additive and engine has run great all year.

you probably need to clean and adjust your carbs, those older yamaha's can be touchy on the low speed adjustment, just did a set the other day, check the small jets in the bowl, I usually blow them out, run some thin mechanics wire through them then spray crc using the red tube through to make sure they are clear

My buddy had the same problem, and it was water in the fuel. Like others have said, clean the bowls on the carb, get some fresh gas after you empty out your tank, and use an additive. I have been using the Evinrude/Johnson fuel conditioner since day 1 with ethanol 4 years ago and so far no problems.
