North Shore stretch of the 4 Leg Tourney in August - some talk about weekend of the 8th or the 15th.
So let's get something finalized this week. Who would be interested, which weekend, where / how to meet?
nightfighter 07-13-2009, 07:07 PM Devereaux Beach in Marblehead has a pavilion with two charcoal grilles, 25.00 for the permit. No booze. Problem I haven't got solved yet is 10.00 non resident parking between 8am and 4pm. I will stop at the Park and Rec office tomorrow. (and get to know the new director, who is not from here....) There is a take out restaurant right at the beach too.....
Any other suggestions? I suppose it will depend on where people will want to fish. I want to be fair to those who are traveling, as it is not exactly easy to access some other areas from Marblehead. For instance, Plum Island is at least 40 minutes away. And what time do we want to meet up?
spinncognito 07-14-2009, 06:21 AM I will offer up my place if the w/e of the 15th. I live on the water in Gloucester and my yard can handle up to 35 people. I have a mother-of-a-grill and a coupla extra rooms if a traveler or two needs to crash. There is a bait shop around the corner that usually has a decent supply of eels. Most importantly the fishable areas on this island are abundant. Bass Rocks (named that for a reason!), Magnolia, Lanesville and Rockport are all within 10-15 minutes. Mid August can be a bit slow but night-time is the right time. Just throwing it out there as an option.

Rockport24 07-14-2009, 09:50 AM I'd be in for the 8th.
Did we rule out Stage Fort Park in Gloucester? I know there is a parking issue there.
Marblehead would work too, and only like 20-30 mins from some other decent spots up the coast
Any thoughts on trying to do it at Surfland? I know we don't have any affiliation but they have a good size parking lot. Not sure if we could set up a grille there or not. I would think they might consider it as it certainly won't hurt their business. Easy access to eels before you head out also.
Squibby17 07-14-2009, 10:23 PM I think Spin's place sounds like a great idea. Thanks for offering. Where do you live in Gloucester? Annisquam? I would be interested in either weekend though I think the 8th's 2:00 high tide might work better for night fishing than the 15th's 7:00.

Agreed on the night tide, would hope for clouds as that is close to the full moon. 8th may work for me as well just gotta run it by my girl and check the social calandar :uhuh:
I live on the boulevard a short cast from the Blynman Bridge.
JohnR 07-15-2009, 06:03 AM Cool offer Spin !
I realize coming to consensus can be less than, umm, brisk  , but let's figure it out this week :tooth:
JohnR 07-18-2009, 11:02 AM OK - so what are we doing? You NorthShorians have been asking "When do we get a Leg" - come on and make your voice known
ThrowingTimber 07-18-2009, 11:19 AM IM IN!
I cant wait to bring Kay& Martha all my Abu's :uhuh:
The Dad Fisherman 07-18-2009, 11:22 AM Another option might be Lynch Park in Beverly...it is pretty central.
I can run it by Kay and see if she would be willing....another place might be 1st Light Anglers in Rowley....they sell tackle and eels and they have a decent sized Parking lot and are central to both PI and Glostah.
RickBomba 07-19-2009, 12:41 PM Do we know which weekend yet? I'm having a clam bake at my place on one of them. If I can't make it, everyone is welcome to come by after the fishing.

OK - see what she says - having a grille onsite is highly preferable. We just need to decide quickly - thanks!

I know, I know, decisions here are slower than at the Department of Bureaucracy :jump1:
nightfighter 07-20-2009, 02:30 PM Devereaux Beach would want $10.00 a car on a Saturday, even if I got a permit for the pavillion, and even if wurfland or Lynch Park would work. I would be willing to show some folks around the Marblehead shores after.....
The Dad Fisherman 07-23-2009, 11:27 AM Might have a spot....surfland Parking lot would be too small for us.
But we may be able to use the parking lot by the bridge to Plum Island...free parking, quick ride to surfland or to the beachfront if you want to go that route....or just BBQ and head to where ever else you want to go.
we would need a grill though
nightfighter 07-24-2009, 11:41 AM Parking lot by the bridge at Plum Island sounds like a winner. Close to Surfland and much fishing on and around Plum Island. For those traveling from the south, it would probably your northern most point to fish, and any other areas you would want to try (Gloucester, Castle Hill, Annisquam, Manchester, Marblehead, Salem, Beverly, Nahant, etc would be on your way home, south.
Can we get a head count as to who might be traveling up this way for a leg? Aug 8, 15, or 22nd all sound good to me, just might be better later in the month.... And how many north shore members are going to participate to help guide some out of towners?????
Finaddict 07-26-2009, 02:35 PM August 8 is good for me - as is the 22nd ... actually 8/22 is better since I am in the middle of a move now.
rphud 07-26-2009, 05:32 PM I am in for any of the dates as near as I can tell. Probably be "in town" for Friday night as well. Not much sense in driving back to CT from Marlborough just to drive up on Sat.
spinncognito 07-27-2009, 06:40 AM The 22nd is a winner for my schedule. Kevin, you say we "may" be able to use that parking lot by the bridge... is it public and how do we go about getting permission?
The Dad Fisherman 07-27-2009, 06:54 AM We used to use it for our Tournament meeting area before we started using the airport.
I checked w/ a guy at the club and he said it shouldn't be a problem using it...he said just give the town a call and give them a heads up but it shouldn't be an issue.
It is public so we should be good to go...and if we have a lot of people show up they can always park at the lot on the other side of the bridge for overflow
RickBomba 07-27-2009, 06:11 PM I am out for the 22nd...I have the yearly Bomba clambake that night for anybody who'd like to stop by Waltham before you go out that night ($15 a head).
