Well, I just answered my own question

Called Shack Attack and found out that a 56' Viking had the bow rails snapped off, a 30' Luhrs sank and 4 guys were plucked out of the water by the Coasties and another boat had the windshield blown out punching thru a swell...not sure but I think I know the boat, they haven't returned to the dock yet...

Must have been plenty of chumming going on...:yak5:

Seas I guess were 12'+ - great day to stay on the dock and drink heavily - the rest of the day was canceled

Apparently it's cleared off and the wind's dropped, could be a good day tomorrow - and a wild night in Edgartown tonite...:uhuh:

Are you inquiring about sharks being caught or being fed?

I went to check the boat this morning (I keep it in OB) There were killer tides and heavy winds late last night...I would say that 1/2 the boats never left the dock the other half that left late, most of them returned after arriving at Muskeget channel and having waves crash over their boats. Later this afternoon it looked better but this morning pretty much sucked.

To give you an idea ...Chappy is basically closed, the beaches took a beating, both sides of the breach are closed. It was really snotty last night.
Drove past the weigh in a few minutes ago and didn't see much of a crowd.

Tomorrow should be a much better day.

My wife and I took our son over to see some weigh in's yesterday. Definitely a much better day for fishing than Friday. Much less crowded than in the past, too. We had front row for the first 4 sharks weighed in and my son had a blast. He's 4 y.o. and obsessed with sharks. The largest we saw before my son ran out of steam was a 320lb thresher. As we were heading back to the 5:15 ferry, there were a few more boats with fish on board waiting to be weighed. One boat looked to have a really nice one in the cockpit, but I couldn't see the whole fish.

Crafty, I saw Shack Attack coming back into the harbor, but I don't think he had a shark. Pretty hard to miss that boat, with the Clam Shack graphics on it. And the triple 300's are pretty sweet. I heard a few comments from people waiting for the ferry about the boat and the Shack. The guy behind me said he eats there whenever he's in Newport. Pretty slick advertising.

The winner was a 360 pound porbeagle landed by the Karen Jean II out of Marshfield. 2nd was the 320 pound thresher I mentioned above landed by a crew from Falmouth or Woods Hole. I don't know who came in 3rd.

I was there all day Saturday. Beautiful day, but not many sharks came in and nothing huge. Did see the Clam Shack boat too. Not a bad little boat he has there.

I spoke to the King of Clams yesterday AM and he had just hit the dock (figuratively) in Newport

Fishbones is right on - Shack Attack got a bunch of blues, several in the 300# range and one over 400# but none of the species needed to weigh in...no skunk, anyway

They did have one thresher in the chum slick but it came and went

Komes said they got lots of video and stills of the 400# blueshark - when his son edits the footage and gets it up on YouTube I'll post a link

He said the final tally was two 30' sportfishermen sunk and a lot of damage in an honest 10-14' swell - a pretty expensive outing for some of the entrants...:hs:

Looks like there's plans for a First Annual Newport Monster Shark Tournament in mid-August but they're working to find corporate sponsors so it may or may not happen

I already told the Big Bivalve to list me in the crew if the Newport contest goes on - ya gotta have a token Portagoosie on board if you expect to do anything....:laughs:
