It makes no sense at all. Major transport business is all diesel, truck, train, construction all diesel, it hurts my head Grapenuts 08-01-2009, 09:58 AM hey old fart how ya been! Raven 08-01-2009, 11:42 AM i looked into it.... and it was a complete JOKE scottw 08-01-2009, 12:14 PM the dems are touting it as a HUGE SUCCESS...let's see, borrow a ton of money that you know someone else and even more likely, their children, will have to make the payments on and then advertise that you are giving it away for free and you suddenly find that you quickly run out of the borrowed give-away money(no way!) that someone else will have to make the payments on and THEN you immediately begin scrounging around for more borrowed money to give away...BRILLIANT!!! I can't believe they never thought of this before:rotf2: how about $45,000 to get rid of your crappy old inefficient home to move into a nice small efficient mobile home, we can just burn all of the old, large, inefficient homes to the ground and turn them back into open spaces for the skunks and raccoons and coyotes...think of all of the energy we'll save... Fishpart 08-01-2009, 07:01 PM A little 1 billion dollar program BOTCHED by Congress. NOW prove to me how they will get the healthcare thing right... It's only about 4 THOUSAND times more money.... buckman 08-01-2009, 08:36 PM All cars now carry a Global Warming rating sticker. A 1 to 10 scale. We will all be driving little death traps before long, Welcome to the Obama years. You asked for change... now change you will get. FYI one of the larger contributors to the green house effect now is the stuff they replaced freon with. What a shocker. justplugit 08-02-2009, 11:52 AM A little 1 billion dollar program BOTCHED by Congress. NOW prove to me how they will get the healthcare thing right... It's only about 4 THOUSAND times more money.... Ya, they can't even run a small simple 1 billion dollar rebate plan, and they are going to put forth a new 1 TRILLION dollar health care plan over haul. :smash: Backbeach Jake 08-02-2009, 01:16 PM So if I have a clunker with a trade in value of 15K and the govmint gives me 4500 and the dealer matches it I have basically a 24K TRADE IN,right? So I buy a 15k Yaris, do I get a check? buckman 08-03-2009, 01:35 PM This Clunker of a program will become permanant under this group of idiots. striperman36 08-03-2009, 02:03 PM Nameless Toyota dealer on Aquidneck, told potential buyer he would have to chase the Febs for the 4500. The dealer refuses to do so. But will destroy the clunker at buyers expense. striperman36 08-03-2009, 06:24 PM Use some of that TARP money that has been returned, or the high-mileage vehicle funding already available but not taken by the RustBelt car manufacturer's striperman36 08-03-2009, 06:39 PM I have a 2-stroke, would they give me money towards buying a 4 stroke? Fishpart 08-04-2009, 01:22 PM Good part of the program is that the car makers getting the profits from this program are MOSTLY OVERSEAS :wall: JohnR 08-04-2009, 03:31 PM Use some of that TARP money that has been returned, or the high-mileage vehicle funding already available but not taken by the RustBelt car manufacturer's Pffft, that TARP money is going boys, and it ain't coming back, to your hometown, this is your hom...:nopain: striperman36 08-04-2009, 03:47 PM Pffft, that TARP money is going boys, and it ain't coming back, to your hometown, this is your hom...:nopain: So when banks say they are paying back TARP money, does Barack actually get it? Its recycled back into the Tarp program justplugit 08-04-2009, 07:57 PM I'm waiting for a reel clumker program so i can get a Van Staal. Joe 08-07-2009, 08:15 AM The dealership near me has about 50 clunkers parked in the back lots with no plates or prices on them. buckman 08-12-2009, 03:05 PM It seems that dealers are no longer letting customers pick up their cars because the Feds are screwing up the 1 billion dollar program so bad. Health care anyone? justplugit 08-25-2009, 03:19 PM YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK. :smash::smash: Yes and the $4500 rebate is prolly taxable as income, like all other Gov't rebates. Traded in my 97 4 Runner with 185K miles on it for a new Tacoma. Happy to take $3,500 from Uncle Sam, and no it is not taxable. As a tax payer I hate this program, but I'll take it!! fishbones 08-31-2009, 11:12 AM Well I took advantage of this program, thanks to all of you for your contributions in future tax $$. Since I helped pay for your new ride I'll be expecting you to give me rides when needed, which isn't all that often. I usually only need rides late at night after drinking too much or when I need to carry something really messy in the car like a carcass. buckman 08-31-2009, 05:56 PM Well I took advantage of this program, thanks to all of you for your contributions in future tax $$. They're vehicles are %$%$%$%$ Exactly. buckman 09-02-2009, 08:27 AM I read last night that Obama is going to give a unprecedented nationwide talk to kids in school. Wonder if he's going to announce their new tax structure to pay for the clunkers program. :devil2: I'm pretty sure that won't be mentioned. I think it's their bold "wash your hands" plan for the swine flu. :rotf2: Raven 09-02-2009, 10:41 AM just a ploy to insert a tracking device likwid 09-03-2009, 07:10 AM just a ploy to insert a tracking device http://regmedia.co.uk/2005/02/28/tinfoil_car.jpg striperman36 09-03-2009, 09:26 AM I dunno Bill I went GM years ago and never looked back. Bought a cavalier and loved it. Lumina used, and I'll be buying another GM soon too. Was always Ford. My current is a 8500 lb van and it's the third gmc van I've owned. Drive it hard. Sold my first awd safari to a lawyer who continued to drive it to 300,000 miles. Bought the Savana and ran that thing alot. Sold it for good money to a woman in upstate Michigan to deliver newspapers. She's still running it at 230,000 miles last time I heard from her. Just changed the tires on the van yesterday at 45k miles. Minimal maintenance on the van save an egr valve under warranty, brake turnings and one ball joint. Always 5k mile oil changes. That doesn't tell me they suck. I can't say the same thing about all the Fords I worked on over the years. Don't mean to hijack but am throwing my .02 in I read last night that Obama is going to give a unprecedented nationwide talk to kids in school. Wonder if he's going to announce their new tax structure to pay for the clunkers program. :devil2: Fuel mileage on US cars suck. I and don't like the ergonomics. I got 188K out of the Dakota. I am don't like the fact that I cant get a small diesel engine like the Volvos in the US that gets 60 mpg. better than the Prius. Toyotas are great vehicles and if I could have gotten the diesel version I would have gotten one. As of now, you know I have the Jeep diesel from the only year they really worked, 2006. I completely agree with you. This is why the US auto companies are failing and why I was against throwing good money at a bad business plan. I believe the US market refuses to accept that diesels are a better alternative to gasoline. According to a colleague of mine from London, diesel has become somewhat of the fuel standard in the UK as more and more customers are seeing the benefit. I think a large issue with making diesels mainstream in the US is the stigma from 30 years ago about how nasty diesel is with the soot and other byproducts from combustion. People don't realize that the same size diesel engine is typically more efficient than the gasoline alternative. The Mach trucks going down the high way spewing black smoke from their pipes doesn't help this much though. buckman 10-30-2009, 05:48 PM Hate to rivive an old thread just as proof to the incompetence of the current administration but what the hell....
