this is a little off topic but since I am here I thought I would post it. I just loaded a fresh copy of office 2002 and it will not let view attachments (I see them but outlook is blocking them (for my own good)) I can't find the security setting to ease it and let me view the attachments. (I have a full blown fire wall/virus filter up stream so I want the machines inside to be wide open)
Any ideas?

This version of outlook is outlook 2002, I was able to set it on an older machine outlook 2000 after an upgrade but it is different in 2002. Any thoughts?

Can you save the attachments locally and view them? I would still leave the preview pane OFF. If that's on and something gets past the FW/Vscan, you can still get infected...

You must have installed Office SP1 that blocks attachments. There is a fix for this, search the knowledge base for "outlook has blocked attachment" and you will find the fix for this.

No it is completely blocked you can't do anything...but I cracked the code:
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 290497

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290497

After doing the regedit, I was able to then save to disk the .url file I was trying to see (the eskimo ice fishing) It would not let me open directly.

Look at at list of defaults! Sometimes I feel we are going backwards. (a lot of people are going to be upset with this "feature" and its inablity to disable it)

Thanks!

Well, instead of Microsoft writing applications that are secure and hard to hack, after being attacked in binary and in the media, they created their "Trustworthy Computing" initiative to improve the security of their apps. What's the most effective way to secure a Microsoft app? Stop people from using them and have people turn on what they need & patch the daylights out of it instead of doing the app right in the first place
:smash:

Disclaimer: I'm not a MS fan so I'm a bit biased :hihi:

Did I mention that the absolute bare minimum of Microsft products are used in the production of this site

Guys if you have Outlook to be able to open the attatchments go into Outlook and click
tools/options/security then uncheck the box next to "Do Not Alow Attatchments"
Click apply. Then you should be in business.
