Ross, sorry to hear that.

There was a story on the 6:00 national news yesterday about someone in Scotland who produced a 30 second staged clip of a horrific car accident that was caused by a girl texting. Much of the story was about people saying it was too graphic. They aught to show it here every night and make kids watch it before their driving test.

My truck was rear ended a few years ago by a girl texting near Salve.

I have watched 3 almost accidents plus some simply bad driving the past few weeks whilke people text and drive.

The road is filled with idiots!!!! You know how many times a day I have people crossing the median into my lane headed right at me because they are on the friggin phone/texting!!!!!! Has to be at least 3/4 times a day! One of these days someone will hit me....and if I am able...I will pull them from their vehicle and beat them to death with that little box!!!!:smash:

So sorry Ross for your families loss. So damn unnecessary!

i don't get it..........

we have the technology for voice recognition
so that you don't have to be looking down at
a key pad at all....

if sending a message is that friggan important....

That Girl was so beautiful .....such a waste of
Life over something so insignificant as texting.

Every day it's on the news people dying because of it.

very SAD story... Sorry Ross for the loss of your friend.

When I gave my old cell phone to my daughter, I had them shut off the ability to text and go online. I figured that it wasn't something that she was going to start doing.

That isn't to say that people don't get into accidents when they drive and talk on the phone!

Imagine how many people have gotten into car accidents playing with their radio/looking for another station with a better tune. :(

Sorry for your family's loss. It hits kids real hard at that age. All we can hope for is that other teens will learn from this. Very sad indeed.

oh man this is just horrible....

this is certainly a good reason to pass some laws about this stuff

Sorry to hear NF. That poor family will never get over it. :(

What could be so important that you need to text somebody
while your driving ??????
We had a State car cell phone law passed about
a year ago, and i see very little difference in the number of people
i still see driving while phoning.
The penalty should be the same as DUI.

Ross, that is awful. I saw it on the news the other day.
What a shame. Condolences to her family and friends.

I noticed in news articles that they weren't releasing the name of the driver:huh: maybe someone of importance or they are respecting privacy or something.
Terrible thing to happen:hs:

if the person was texting while driving, maybe another teenager?

if i see a cell phone being used
i consider them drunk, armed, and dangerous

Driver was high school senior from next town. Obviously devastating for him and his family. Cooperating fully, stayed at scene, may have made the 911 call. Feel badly for the kid.

Stories going around...not confirmed...

1.Driver was 'distracted', according to chief of police. Possibly was texting.

2.Victim was in crosswalk, dropped phone, went back and was bent over when struck.

What I do know from a doctor who was on the scene, was that Allie was gone, never knew what hit her, had no brain activity when she was loaded into the ambulance. She was kept 'alive' long enough for her mother to get back in town.

Wake this evening, funeral tomorrow. I will see the parents after. Better for me as opposed to with the masses that will be there today and tomorrow. Streets already posted to be closed around church. Town is a wreck.

Police chief's advice; "When your kid gets behind the wheel of a car, have them throw their cell phone in the back seat....."

That is when the parents and family will need you the most.
My experience is people don't want to bother people when they're
mourning days and weeks after the services, but that is when they need their friends the most.

It's heartbreaking for sure Ross :(

2 families will forever be changed and the kid will have to live with it the rest of his life.
Maybe we've reached the point where technology has gotten way past human capabilities making it unsafe in so many situations. Good move, toss the cell in the back seat, there's enough other distractions that need your attention while driving, accidents happen unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear of your daughter's loss,& I don't know if she knows of how many people here have sent their best but I send my deepest regards to her & to her friends who knew of her.

On a semi smiler note

I was driving through an intersection and a young girl ran a red light and slammed my rear/mid section, after the hit I collected my self and realize everything is cool and immediately got out to check to make sure the other drivers/who hit me was OK.I walk up to the car and to my surprise I see the driver on the phone, and I hear her say I got to go I just hit somebody.......Are you kidding me?Still on the phone after the accident WTF!She was completely clueless,I couldn't believe it.
Anyway we pass papers and 2 days later I get a call from her farther asking me why am I putting in a claim against his daughter's Ins co.,so I told him Dude, she ran a red light while on the stupid phone and she frigging hit me what seems to be the problem?!?!?

It sucks,,,, What a shame,,,,,,,

A few months ago I had a kid come across the yellow line and almost hit me head on,,, Somehow after going off the road I avoided the head on but he hit me on the drivers side door and totaled my truck,, Tore the rear axle right out of the truck,,,, He was Texting,,,,

Texting while driving is going to become an even bigger issue than it already is,,,

What are all the studies saying? It's 5x more dangerous to be texting than drunk? That right there is chilling. That's a really sad story. I feel for the victim and her family. I think there do need to be laws against texting while driving.

Father should keep his yap shut because anything the insurance company doesn't cover the court will tell him he has to.

Yup!
I'm not one for pushing issues but I was taken back by what he said,is there any communication in that family or did she just lie to him:devil2:

It's just to fast as to how far our technology in communication has come & how easily our kids can obtain it not to mention how badly they are abusing it,it's to the point of involuntary manslaughter(or is it)?

The odds of getting in an accident are at the most great the hour after high school lets out.
