I was curious if anymore of the washed away section of the county beach had filled back in? It would be great if it filled back in completely so we dont have to take the ferry over every morning during the derby.

It has a little but we are talking about a slow process. I've been told last time it breached (way before my time) it took roughly ten years to completely fill back in. Grab a coffee it might be a while.:smash:

I don't think it will take nearly that long. It is changing very fast and the entire place is shoaling up. A LOT of beach has been added to the west side and the opening is moving east and closing. There is a large cape-like hook into the bay on the chappy side and I predict this shifts back and closes it up. I think that it will only take a year or two barring any major storms doing more damage. I know others said it will take decades but this is changing very fast and is closing up fast IMO. The current in the harbor has reduced alot this summer. At one point in the spring it was so shallow in the breach that the current was almost back to normal in the harbor, but we had some violent weather and it got a little deeper in the opening, however the current is not nearly as bad as it was. (even the ferry operator will tell you that)

One problem I see is the entire area around metcalf's is really being eroded away badly. I was down there at one point and there were bushes and shrubs in the surf line. The dune was broken thru several times and I heard during the high tides of Bill, that the water flooded the air-down parking lot.

I agree, the ferry is a rip off. They gouge all of us and the people who live on chappy go back and forth nearly for free. I can't wait for it to close up.
