View Full Version : New Bumper Sticker UserRemoved1 09-02-2009, 06:14 PM why bother :smash: JohnnyD 09-02-2009, 07:27 PM I think I saw a shirt at Nelson's that has that saying. rphud 09-02-2009, 07:52 PM New ones I am seeing in and around Worcester are 1-20-13. I suppose turn about is fair play, but that didn't take too long. Bob Thomas 09-02-2009, 10:04 PM Had that one on the old buggy rack and tent trailer. Got quite a few comments, good & bad, on the roads. Wish I had my old shirt....I believe from Nelsons. "Screw the plover, save the endangered Cape Coddah" with the plover and a red circle/slash. luds 09-03-2009, 01:23 AM Nice but I still prefer "No Mung" Karl F 09-03-2009, 11:04 AM oldie but a goodie...been around for years... I like the ones that reads, "Piss on Plovers, Protect People" and the other one: "Plovers, you can't eat just one" Medic6973 09-05-2009, 12:46 PM My normal sigline: piemma 09-06-2009, 02:40 AM I had that sticker on my old buggy back in 94. The rangers MADE me take it off. They were not amused. Pt.JudeJoe 09-06-2009, 10:14 AM HABS had one of those and a guy in a Mercedes pulled up next to him at a red light and was apoplectic. :rotflmao: He was all red in the face and choking out something about "THAT BUMPER STICKER!!:fury:" piemma 09-11-2009, 09:13 AM One lady ranger actually gave me a very hard time about it. JohnnyD 09-11-2009, 10:25 AM I had that sticker on my old buggy back in 94. The rangers MADE me take it off. They were not amused. So much for freedom of speech. Raven 09-11-2009, 12:04 PM should say taste better than chicken :fury: Sweetwater 09-11-2009, 12:13 PM Piping Plovers; Sound Like Bubble Wrap Blitzseeker 09-11-2009, 12:19 PM Funny story that won't surprise too many people. A few weeks ago my good friend was up at Race Point fishing during the day. A plover is running around down on the surf line doing its thing (yes, he's been going there for years and knows the difference between plovers and the little terns that are everywhere). As he's watching the thing run around and saying to his wife "there one of those F%&ing plovers", a hawk swoops down and whacks the thing. Feathers fly, the whole nine yards. Hawk proceeds to carry it away in its talons. Glad we kept the beach closed for half the summer. :wall: JohnnyD 09-11-2009, 01:26 PM Glad we kept the beach closed for half the summer. :wall: 2na will probably know for sure, but last report I heard had only an increase from 9 nesting pairs in the late 90's to 11 nesting pairs last year. Not sure what the number was this year. The beach closures have obviously been effective. BasicPatrick 09-11-2009, 01:33 PM FLAME ON!!!!!!! THIS THREAD ISN'T EVEN CLOSE TO FUNNY AND MY COMMENTS ARE NOT AIMED AT ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL SINCE THE ENVIROS ARE RGULARLY KICKING OUR COLLECTIVE ASSES OFF THE BEACH AND HAVE THE EAR OF WAY MORE POLITICIANS THEN WE DO AND BECAUSE MOST BEACH MANGERS AND OTHER OFFICIALS THAT HAVE THE KEYS TO THE BEACH HAVE ENVIRONMENTAL TENDANCIES I HAVE A SIMPLE QUESTION IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO POKE THE BULLY YOU ARE ASKING TO LET YOU BACK ON THE BEACH WHILE AT THE SAME TIME TEACHING OUR KIDS TO HATE A BIRD FOR WHAT A PERSON HAS DONE? IF YOUR ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IS NO WHY NOT USE WHAT MY FOOTBALL COACH USED TO CALL THE CHEERLEADERS RULE AND NOT INSULT THE OTHER TEAM BUT CHEER FOR OUR TEAM HOW ABOUT URGING BUMPER STICKERS THAT SAY "I SUPPORT AND PAY FOR FREE AND OPEN BEACHES" OR "CLOSE MY TOWN BEACH AND LOOSE MY TOWN ELECTION" IF YOUR ANSWER TO THE ABOVE QUESTION IS YES AND IF YOU MUST DRIVE AROUND WITH THAT IGNORANT STICKER THAT IS STUCK IN THE FACE OF EVERY ADVOCATE THAT GIVES THEIR TIME TO TRY AND NEGOTIATE OUR ASSES BACK ONTO THE BEACH THAN DO YOUR VOLUNTEERS A FAVOR AND AT LEAST HAVE THE COURAGE TO SHOW UP AND CARRY YOUR WEIGHT IN THE ISSUE YOU HAVE TO INFORM THE WORLD ABOUT WITH YOUR BORN LOSER BUMBER STICKER. SHOW HOW TOUGH YOU ARE AND PUT YOUR ASS IN A CHAIR, FACE THE ENVIROS AND DEBATE SCIENCE, LAWS AND SOLUTIONS THAT YOU HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF HOURS MAKING SURE YOU KNOW INSIDE OUT AND BACKWARD. NOT FOR YOU HOW ABOUT RAISING MONEY, ATTENDING BEACH MANAGEMENT MEETINGS, ATTENDING LOCAL GOVERNMENT MEETINGS, ATTEND RULEMAKING HEARINGS AND DO SO MORE THAN ONCE PER DECADE IF YOU WONT DO THAT WILL YOU AT LEAST STOP REPEATING THE INCORRECT RUMOR THAT THEY EAT PLOVERS IN SOUTH AMERICA. IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BIRD AND ISN'T EVEN THE SAME COLOR DO YOU GET IT YET THAT STICKER IS WORSE THAN LEAVING FIFTY BEER BOTTLES ON THE BEACH. IT IS WORSE THAN A HUNDRED EMPTY BAIT CONTAINERS. YOU HURT OUR ACCESS WITH THAT STICKER. EVERY ENVIRO THAT GOES INTO THE GAS STATION AND SEES THOSE STICKERS IS PISSED OFF AND DONATES MORE MONEY TO KICK YOUR BUTT EVERY TIME YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC AND MR TOWN COUNCILLOR SEES YOUR STICKER HE VIEWS ALL FISHERS NOT AS STEWARDS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT BUT AS YAHOOS THAT NEED TO BE REGULATED I LIKE TO BABBLE ON AN INTERNET BOARD TOO BUT DO US ALL A HUGE FAVOR AND STOP MAKING IT HARDER FOR US WHO PREFER TO BE ON THE BEACH. DON'T WASTE TIME TYPING ABOUT HOW YOU USED TO AND YOU HAVE... BLAH BLAH BLAH WE LOST A LOT IN THE PAST AND WE ARE NEARING EXTINCTION MAYBE IT'S TIME TO CHANGE OUR STRATEGY IF HALF OF THOSE WHO CLAIM TO HAVE SENT AN E-MAIL DID WE COLD CRASH GOVENMENT NETWORKS BUT NO SENDO MOSTO...A LOT OF YOU AND YOUR BUMPER STICKERS LIE THOSE FIGHTING TODAY DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT FAILURE, WE WANT HELP RIP THOSE STICKERS OFF YOUR CAR...SEND THE REMNANTS TO AUDOBON WITH A NOTE THAT SAYS WE CAN SHARE THE BEACH IF WE WORK TOGETHER. DO SOMETHING POSITIVE JOIN A CLUB Rant off If anyone was offended by anything stated in this post than take a look in the mirror because I did not call you by name. StriperZ 09-11-2009, 01:35 PM I was joking with a park ranger on nauset beach, I asked, "What was the daily limit on plovers?", her smile faded and she huffed off. That was a few years ago when they went nuts about plovers nesting and shut off from the high tide line to the dunes. BasicPatrick 09-11-2009, 01:38 PM gAWD i NEE SPEL CHICK WEN I AM UPCET 2na 09-11-2009, 02:14 PM I agree with Patrick; having stickers, shirts etc. that call for the demise of any animal, be it a plover or a seal, is just about the worst thing that we can do to assist the people who want us off of the beach accomplish their objective. The problem is not the bird, is is the mindset that our access to the resource has a negative effect on the wildlife. Any declaration that hints of ill wishes towards any wildlife can not but reinforce that mindset. If you do not know, Patrick has put considerable time and effort into fighting against the tide. I urge you all to seriously consider his words, rant or not, because there is an awful lot of truth in his words. BEETLE 09-11-2009, 02:31 PM Ditto what 2na said. I don't want to TELL my Grandson what it WAS like - I want him to experience it. 5/0 09-11-2009, 03:22 PM Ahhhh thanks Dad?! So we can't vent and have some laughs JohnnyD 09-11-2009, 03:43 PM FLAME ON!!!!!!! ... Rant off If anyone was offended by anything stated in this post than take a look in the mirror because I did not call you by name. I strongly respect your opinion and appreciate all the work that you do. A post that long in CAPS LOCK is exceptionally difficult to read. I had to stop reading after a while. keeperreaper 09-11-2009, 03:58 PM That bumper sticker is funny as hell. Scott I agree with you. A bumper sticker will not be the reason they close a beach I can promise you that. As for BP you do a lot of work for a good cause keep it up. Swimmer 09-11-2009, 04:28 PM I think Patrick has gone tree hugger............... Why is it that none of the enviro's ideas so far has help the plover? It has more to do with the hawk swooping in and the fox sneaking up on a nbest than it has to do with the bird getting trapped in a sand tire track. Besides that Patrick, thanks for all the hard work you do on our behalf. Well have a group hug at Wasque in October. Karl F 09-11-2009, 05:42 PM "Sense of Humor, Gone, but not Forgotten" "Laughter, it does a body good!" "Opinion's everybody's entitled to their's!" "We'd rather be fishing" I actually de-stickered my truck a couple years ago.... well, just 2 remain... O.S.C. and the No Mung....but, they is very subtle... and I might loose the no mung one, unless it fades some more, and I might offend someone who is preserving mung  I see some trucks going down the road, and wonder why they are not pulled over and written up...must be some kind of Chapter 90 law about clogging up the whole back window??... bassmaster's old red Ford....:jump1: get caught behind that rear window, and tailgate in a traffic jam, and at least you had a few hours of reading material in front of you..... and dual purpose there, the stickers actually held the tailgate together! Raven 09-11-2009, 05:42 PM we are entitled to having some fun tattoobob 09-11-2009, 06:17 PM Well I hate to tell everyone this but what they have already taken we will never get back, and if you think they care about any of us think again they don't. they don't need or want our money we are just a burden to them. so fight and talk all you want they will never give us what we want Karl F 09-11-2009, 06:47 PM "some get it, some don't, some never will" "First Ammendment, it's for Everybody" "Mess with the First Ammendment, I'll explain the Second Ammentment" "don't Worry, be Happy" and trust me, nothing feels so good, as when you stop beating your head against the wall... to quote the mighty Tagger... "I feel so much better now, after giving up all hope" :uhuh: hey, another bumper sticker :jump1: MAKAI 09-11-2009, 06:59 PM Patrick, we are not getting the beach back. We choose to be weak and silent majority. Look at the average fisherman,in our pastime we want to be alone or with just a few people. Antisocial with other fishermen. We will never be a collective, its not how we are wired. Enviro's on the other hand are the complete opposite. They want to be a large group with clubs and all that goes with it,so they CAN have a huge voice even though I am sure we would outnumber them greatly. Sad , but it is tough to rally the troops when there is not even a whiff of even a small victory. I belonged to a handful of groups like ccsm and others, but I felt that all we got was some lip service. In on ear and out the other, the seashores agenda is set in stone. Pat you on the back and show you the door. Nothing would make me happier(well almost) than if we were a force to be reckoned with. BasicPatrick 09-11-2009, 07:22 PM I got a few myself.... "Democracy is not a spectator sport" "It is much easier to complain than to work" "It is a worse crime to lie to yourself than to lie to your friends" BasicPatrick 09-11-2009, 07:24 PM My mothers favorite "Don't tell me what you've done, tell me what you are going to do" "Don;t cry over spilled milk" "He who has the most excuses usually does the least amount of work" BasicPatrick 09-11-2009, 08:12 PM Wins & Losses & a Defeatist Attitude: Just today the recreational community leadership's license legislation has moved out of Natural Resources, Environment and Agriculture and into the Ways and Means Committee intact. I guess we should say to hell with it and tell Beacon Hill to just take the money and pay for the big dig. We don't need that access office anyway. At the beginning of this year one of the three votes from MA at the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (manages Striped Bass) was Mr Vito Calomo who is a hard core kill and sell every last fish commercial advocate. When Rep Anthony Verga of Gloucester lost his reelection bid a great deal of effort was made and Gov Deval Patrick appointed Rep Sarah Peake of P-town who is very concerned with many of our issues. I guess we should call the the Governor all pissed off. Another clear win is the recent pogie boat issue. A group of constituents complained and both myself and Chuck Casella went to work. Should Jules call the EPO's and tell them we know those commercial guys are going to win anyway so don't bother issuing the fines. Should we tell the Gov't officials who may or may not have made policy calls to truely look at our issues that they did not serve us well. There was more beach open this year than in the past. It has nothing to do with birds, just interpretation of regulation. We won a bunch this year. It would be nice if when we ask you guys gave us as much support as grief. So go ahead and display your stickers. The internet boards will remain the litle kids table as far as clubs go until they learn to play with the adults. The other side of the first amendment is that you face the consequences of free speach. Something many still have not learned. fishermom 09-11-2009, 11:05 PM I am most proud of my O.S.C. sticker!! That's my favorite and my 'bite me' sticker is my second favorite.............. Nebe 09-12-2009, 07:12 AM Patrick is right. That sticker does no one any favors except earn a few chuckles between fishermen Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device 5/0 09-12-2009, 07:46 AM LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS. Ya know I almost used that line:rotf2: Patrick is right. That sticker does no one any favors Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Life is to short to get worked up over bumper stickers,BTW do you really think bumper stickers make or break a vote? I honestly think not. Backbeach Jake 09-12-2009, 08:22 AM You're right, Patrick and I stand corrected. That sticker," Piping Plovers Taste Like Chicken" may be as effective as "You Enviros Suck". It just causes them to redouble their efforts against, what must be in their opinion, a crude and savage people. Another that that has crossed my mind (briefly) is that we are actually working toward the same end albeit via different routes. And the kicker is this: they don't work for us. Why not? Lack, on our part of constructive effort. Just nasty slogans. Sure we have the right to speak our minds and use black humor, but what does it get us? What does it say about us to those on the other route? It pretty much says that we'd like to eat their little birds or pop them like bubble wrap. Again, we want the same thing, the preservation of open beaches. It can and will be done with or without us. If it's to be done with us, we're just gonna have to lose some of the" in your face attitude". What's funny to me (and it is) is just plain offensive to others, so I keep it to myself. You younger guys can't imagine what we've lost for beach. You also can't imagine how many more people want to drive it. But that's another whole issue. But part of the reason for closings. Nebe 09-12-2009, 08:23 AM I think a bumper sticker is a label that links the message it portrays to the driver.. People form opinions based on many subconcious levels and I'm just saying that negative messages like that does no favors to the csuse Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device JohnR 09-12-2009, 08:45 AM I think Patrick is mostly right. There have been some vistories, not as many as we need and not as many as we could get if we acted together on this stuff. Instead we chuckle and riddicule and potificate from our Soapboxes and in the end we don't do a hell of a lot about it. Nobody (ok, very few people but I don't who the hell they are) works harder and goes to more meetings than him in our area. WE joke, and chuckle, and pay lip service to things but WE as a group really don't do a hell of a lot. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
