I agree bigfish... wait too long to start, and you could find that you already missed it some years!!! whats the worst that can happen... you only catch a ton of upper teen fish??? there are worse things in life... my motto is this... if you are free, and CAN fish a particular night, GO!!!

I have three kids under 8, so this year, much the last few, will be get out when I can. I take most of august off to "bank" time, but thats just to hear less crap from wifey. I'll get out only about 2 x a week until december

Fish have their own calendar of sorts...

Some years the baitfish tell me it's on, other years my blood tells me it's on......other years I miss it because I waited for it, some years I start too early with anticipation that I get burnt out when it finally arrives...and then I only get to hear or read about it.

Like mentioned above, unless you have a LOT of FREE time on your hands, GO WHEN YOU CAN!!!

MID-SEPTEMBER, IT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME, ANYPLACE, ON ANYTHING!!!...you just have to be there, and be patient yet relentless at the same time....

Unfortunately, like others on here....big life changes in the last few years, marriage, new home, new job, and new child.....Almost like I was born again into a NEW life.............geeeeeesh, I miss my old life. :fishin:

I went into fall run mode today. Lots of fish, but the big ones were hiding.

The trick is in the spring, to keep on fishing through summer and into fall. That way, you will never miss whatever run is happening. Only stop fishing when the water starts to freeze in the eyes of your pole. :humpty:

Sept is the "transitional" period for me.
I move from freshwater bass to salt, and prep some gear for the true fall trout, and then get the ice gear tuned up. Wait a sec, I'm getting ahead of myself. Summer (for me) doesn't end until all the leaves have fallen or the first "true" frost/freeze.
I love cool weather, so fall is just a cooler part of summer.

being farther north than most of you, things tend to blend here, each season blends into the next and brings it's own rules.... by the last week of August I see fish schooling in big pods...the beach front will host pockets of "blitz" type fishing for two or three days and then it's dead for a few more, the river fishing is the same, fish will come in and feed for one or two tides and leave ( to be found out on the front beach) the last 10 days were scratch and claw...last night was blitz... and so it will go for the next three weeks... then it will be very sparodic.... to answere the question directly.. I never change what I do.. just the methods I use and locations I fish.. and that is as often as possible.. usualy 3-4 nights a week...One thing does change.. t shirts and bug spray have been replaced with gloves and sweat shirts...
