PaulS 10-02-2009, 07:30 AM My little cousin beat out Rick for 2nd place with a 21 lber and she is currently leading the women weekly... I broke Rick's balls about that. I think she also won a mystery prize that day. The Iceman 6 10-02-2009, 12:59 PM Good work SB hardcore from shore 10-03-2009, 09:03 PM Just checked yesterday's results. Picked up a 3rd place shore Bluefish Friday 10/2 7.73 pounds. Nice to weigh a fish and win a prize. One more morning before we leave the island. Been picking up a few bass and blues. Had one bass Friday 10/2 AM that was so close to 32 inches that I put it back as any shrinkage while it sat would have put it under the limit. Nice fight though. Got him on a white needle along with several other shorts. Also 2 blues (runts) at same time on that white needle one on the treble and one on the back. Tough conditions this am nice from 4 to 6AM then rain, lots of rain from 6 to 9 AM, bass but short. Bill fishermom 10-03-2009, 11:00 PM I am very happy to say that I took the Boat Bluefish womens weekly prize.....what shall I shoot for this week???? hmmmmmmmmmmmm........ tynan19 10-04-2009, 11:31 AM Congrats! nightfighter 10-05-2009, 11:45 AM I weighed an 8# albie this AM. Someone brought in an 11 plus shortly after. ProfessorM 10-05-2009, 12:07 PM way to go Ross. PaulS 10-05-2009, 12:20 PM Nice job Ross - from shore? nightfighter 10-08-2009, 11:41 AM Yup. All shore fishing. Lev and I keep missing each other. Another albie yesterday and a blue in the afternoon. Neither weighed in. Morning was combat conditions. Winds are still howling. Going to the eastside shortly. When will this wind lie down???? Rockport24 10-08-2009, 11:48 AM nice Ross! glad you're getting into them! yeah it's howling up here too, making it hard to get out in the yak! nightfighter 10-09-2009, 09:30 AM The fish just aren't here......... brutal. ProfessorM 10-09-2009, 09:52 AM Sorry Ross. Makes me feel better since my trip got Shanghaied. Peter is coming home today I think. Every time I have been over I haven't gotten much but it is still a lot of fun. nightfighter 10-09-2009, 08:57 PM I changed my reservation and am now home. Was supposed to stay until Sunday, but......enough of no fish. Paul, you made a good call not coming over as the weather for those 24-36 hours was tough, to say the least. I would not be surprised if the house gets closed up tomorrow... Just tough fishing long hours, in high winds and or rain, and not seeing many fished weighed in at all. I think three bass were weighed in for both boat and shore divisions on Wednesday! Three! And how many anglers are out there???? Whether the migration is late or not, the fish are not there. Didn't talk to anyone who averaged even one fish a day, not one. I had a great time at the Basic Shack with Patrick, Wendy, Rich. Tom and John C. from MSBA, VineyardBlues, and my roommate Danno, AKA Surfpirate. Also saw last year's winner of the boat, Scotty, however briefly at the house. Spent the afternoon with Swimmer and SKD on the Wasque beach yesterday. I will post some pics tomorrow (after some sleep and finding some fish in my home waters, hopefully...) First time seeing the beachbuggy scene. Very cool way to fish and access lots of ground. tynan19 10-09-2009, 09:19 PM Wow, that is sad reading. JohnR 10-10-2009, 09:11 AM Thats what happens with the Derby when the weather and fish conspire against you. But then some handful of people will pull through and hang a big fish. Can be good fishing but can be real tough fishing too. tattoobob 10-10-2009, 09:38 AM My son is working over there next week and told me the house they are staying in is open to come for the weekend, but I can stay home and catch nothing Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device rickhern 10-12-2009, 06:56 PM Found out yesterday that I won the weekly surf blue for last week. It is somewhat of a consolation, as the fishing was extremely tough that week. Threw eels for 7 nights, 6-8 hours/night, then did some bait and plug fishing during the day. Never had more than 5 hours of sleep/day. Grand total, 3 bass, 3 blues. OUCH!!! Funny thing about the trip. I usually go over with a goal of some sort. My thing this yr was "Follow your gut". Well, on thursday night, 4am, my buddy and I are on a rock, maybe 20yds from sure, doing squat. I can barely see a rock in the distance that is fully submerged on all but dead low. It's very calm, no swell, and my gut says "Go for it". I tell my gut "no freaking way!" I have been on the rock before, with Tynan, and it is a good swim, maybe 40 yds, and the rock sits in 15' of water. The Gut persists and reminds me of my mantra for the trip. My partner says "No freaking way!!" but the gut wins and off I go. I felt like Clark Griswald about to jump in the pool! "This is crazy, this is crazy!". But honestly, I have a wetsuit and life vest, really no worries, but your mind does call things into question the further along you get. As Casey will attest, finding the rock can be difficult. Get in the area, then start feeling around with your rod, legs, whatever. Finally found it, felt much better to be topside. This spot is so fishy it is ridiculous! For the next 2 hours, I throw eels into a barren ocean. Finally, get whacked and when I come tight, the fish is right next to the rock, and takes of on a 50 yd run! Oh baby, this has gotta be 30# at least. Great fight, and bitter dissapointment to find a 11.44 blue, hooked below gill plates with a circle hook???? Managed another 10# blue a few mins later, then nothing for the next 2 days. I fished hard, followed my Gut, and feel pretty good about it. How has your Gut treated you? Do you generally follow it, or try to reason your way around it? vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
