Yeppers...... same boat here..... I parked the boat in the storage lot, after yet another skunking... pulled my lobster pots for the season... and haven't decided if the boat is out for the season.... May take it out a time or two before winterizing it... or I'll just fish from shore.....

It does get discouraging.....:wall:

Eek, it's worse than I thought, this may call for an intervention.

Fish were really fussy last 2 days for top water plugging. Too much to eat may be the problem. It is almost like they know a plug is no no. I saw a plethora of canal sharpies singing the same tune so you are not alone. You need to follow Flap, Larry, he knows.

Larry - been working my usual fall spots up here and only small fishso far. Have not seen any schoolie blitzing bait like prior years, this has been a strange fishing season.

They were finicky, had to change plugs 5 or 6 times/ different sizes at each
spot. An inch made a difference.

Maybe ya should have been fishin for lost pics. :hidin:

Had some decent fish on eels this weekend(tied 3rd in the Habs:)) but worked my butt off in HEAVY surf for them. The only 2 fish I managed at the canal came on a white SS littleneck, BELOW the surface.

been a tough fall for me
I can't seem to win, the fish seem to zig when I zag.

I have caught 6 fish this fall, only 3 in October.

suckiest fall I've ever had but I'm sure it must be my fault

Caught 11 nice sized tinker mackerel at the end of Macmillan Wharf last night.:rotf2: My BIL was vertical jigging blues in 85=100 feet of water off Long Point. No Bass, no mas. Still a great weekend.:)

Had a decent weekend: Sunday loaded up black sea bass (getting big this time of year) and Monday boated a few stripers (with Niko). Sure glad there are alternative baits to pogies which are now harder and harder to find.
This coming week seems to be a tough week as there will be no boat fishing by this guy due to wind/wave forecast through the weekend.

I had a pretty good night Saturday, 6 teen size fish. Other than that though it's been pretty constant action on schoolies and blues.

BF: Finally meeting you IP at Midway Mon. AM was, unfortunately , the highlight of my three day (the wife out of town), complete freedom, personal fishathon holiday. I spent half the night in places known only to Elizabethians. I roamed around CC Bay side. Woods Hole, Nobska, perpetually eyeballing the Canal. I am just at fever pitch that the bass run is swimming by me and I'll have to live with that stigma all winter.

I live here! I wager I have the lowest good catch rating per unit hour of a line in the water than anybody I know. I may be the Worst. It sure feels it. God! Numby and Flap caught some good fish AND look like they have pletny of sleep.

Ive landed around 20 fish in the past two weeks, mainly sub legals but a few in the 30in+ range, all in the south shore. All i can say is slug-go

You guys must have the stink on you as bad as BackBeach does. I had a building committee meeting last night that adjourned at 8:45pm, I drove the 40 miles from there to the beach I have been fishing, got there just as the tide was in it's first hour of the ebb, one other guy guarding a baited rod in it's holder, he was fishing the edge of a known hole so I went to the other side. The fishing wasn't fast and furious but in 45 minutes I had a 25lb fish, a 16 lb fish and one 24incher.

Just as I was landing the 25lb fish two guys walked in and mugged me on either side. they were casting sled dog eels while standing no more that 15 feet each side. One guy kept asking "you on again Bro?" First off I ain't your "Bro" and secondly your fishing etiquette sucks. I could have gone on but after a13 hours work day, three fish on the beach I decided to pack it in.

The moral of the story is that the fish are there still. The bar structure has drastically changed in the last week but the bait is thick. And though the temp in the parking lot was near the mid 30's, standing in the surf was balmy, must have been a 20 degree temp difference in 150 yards from shore to lot.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet. They are moving. The winds might kill your attempts the next few days if NOAA is right (yeah, and wrestlings for real) but the fish are still there, not as big but still there.

Proving again that I am one stupid fisherman at times this year

As Tatto bob has stated, tough sledding here at Plum Island... last Thurday, I spent 5 hours dragging a plug through the drop in the mouth of the river... for my efforts, I got cold fingers, stiff knees , a runny nose 5 bass between 10-15lbs and 3 bait sized blue fish... average night this fall has been just about 5 fish but it's been tough, slow, COLD work... and for the most part, I've been the only idiot fishing..that same night I fished the turn and first hour of the rise with eels.. nary a tap... not even a dink...back at the dock, a smallpod of trout sized schoolies were popping YOY herring and shad drops behind the party boats.. but their numbers are far from what I normaly see this time of year...

Sunday, I was scouring the horizon at day break... a few terns circling, gannets did thier thing.. but there were no fish under them.. only sand eels... at 10:00 AM I called it a season... Last Tuesday, I had a decent pod of 20lb class bass north of the boarder, but it's a long cold ride, this weekends forecast weather should send them on their way to the cape for Flap to beat on... as for.. my boat is witerized and covered.. I've dusted off my lathe and the "next" season has begun...

Anytime I have to dress like this to fish.. I ought to be standing on ice.. not on the deck of a boat!

talk about tough...I am sick and can't even fish...going out in this cold and fishing would probably give me pneumonia.:smash:
Hope there are still some left next week....
