View Full Version : 7.5 Billion to Pakistan
Cool Beans 10-15-2009, 08:35 PM Without fanfare, Obama signs Pakistan aid bill - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091015/pl_nm/us_pakistan_aid_usa)
with the current US population at 307,706,041 that 7.5 billion equals $243.74 per person.
Where the hell is he pulling this money from? Taxes? So this year every one of us, including our wives and kids each paid $243.74 to Pakistan?
And from reading CNN only a small fraction of the last batch of $$$ actually made it to the military to fight the AlQueda.
I want to opt out of my families share of 243.74 x 5 = $1218.70!!!
striperman36 10-15-2009, 09:08 PM I read that also about the last military aid primarily going to bolster economic activity. Pakistan is were the issue is at the moment, we have to find a way to get Al Qaida there. Any other suggestions?
Drones aren't the answer.
Raven 10-15-2009, 09:10 PM i guess that's hush money for the Pakistani civilians
we've been accidentally killing with the predator drone missile attacks. :devil2:

Did you actually read the news article you posted? Or did you take your calculations from one website, then post the yahoo site so it looked like you were being objective?
First, the aid is $7.5 billion over 5 years and has to be renewed by Congress every year. That equates to $1.5billion/year, or less than what we aid to Israel, Egypt or Iraq (and only one of those countries we're actually fighting a war in).
Second, Pakistan is the real location of the war against *Al Qaeda*. For the most part, Al Qaeda has been pushed out of the Afghan mountains and into Pakistan. If we want to crush Al Qaeda, then we need Pakistan's cooperation.
Third, this may be a surprise to you, but the government receives taxes from businesses too. As such, all your math that was suppose to be some dramatic demonstration as to how much each of us is going to pay is horribly flawed.
So no, this year every one of us (including our wives and kids) *did not* pay $7.5 Billion to Pakistan. And right from the get-go, they have declared that all of this money isn't for military aid. But, the included requisite that a certain portion does, has the Pakistanis up in arms.
Please at least read the article you actually cited next time.
The Dad Fisherman 10-16-2009, 05:56 AM its only $24.37 not $243.74
Cool Beans 10-16-2009, 06:21 AM its only $24.37 not $243.74
Oops... I missed a decimal point... Either way we spend way to much helping other countries.... especially as our liberal friends on here state, how messed up we are at home.....
Cool Beans 10-16-2009, 06:28 AM JohnnyD, do you not understand, when they tax businesses, they tax each and every one of us?
And yes I read the article, as in all government contracts, even if it's over 5 years, when the 7.5 billion is approved... the total is allocated today. So this 7.5 is not available for anything else... as it is already spent..
RIJIMMY 10-16-2009, 08:00 AM How much of that money will be going right into Al Queda's hands?
1000 years ago, you surrounded a castle, layed seige and starved the population. Today, we load our catapults with cash and send it over the walls.
Raven 10-16-2009, 08:12 AM it's amazing to me how much of America's tax dollars and plain donations to charity s....goes to supplemental food programs
that get hijacked or traded and end up feeding the same bastards that are shooting at our soldiers...
humanitarianism and war don't always go together so well
spence 10-17-2009, 06:44 AM Oops... I missed a decimal point...
You're also assuming a linear distribution of tax revenues. Funny how some are so quick to forget about the rich paying most of the tax burden.
