View Full Version : Under the knife
TheSpecialist 10-18-2009, 09:43 PM One more day of work tomorrow , then in for a procedure on my shoulder on tuesday. They are taking 3/4" off of my clavicle, shaving down the bone spurs, and debreading the tissue. Should be out of work 3-9 weeks according to the doctor. No bow hunting for me, but hopefully will recover enough for shotgun, and muzzleloading season. I am glad I am finally getting this done as my shoulder has been going down hill for the past 5 or 6 years. Last couple of months it has gotten really bad, and the pain has been bringing me to tears at times.

JohnnyD 10-19-2009, 09:10 AM Best of luck to you. Hopefully it's your non-dominant arm. 3-9 weeks is a large window - hope it's closer to 3.
tynan19 10-19-2009, 10:53 AM Bill, hope all goes well and you have a good recovery.
Swimmer 10-19-2009, 12:34 PM Bill, ditto on all the above. Hope you heal fast.
FishermanTim 10-19-2009, 02:38 PM They will probably be able to give you a more definitive timeframe after the procedure. The initial timeframe is usually a round figure timeframe given before they have actually gone in and done the work. Hopefully you will fall in the low end of the recovery time frame.

TheSpecialist 10-21-2009, 03:54 PM Thanks guys, the operation went well. There were no suprises in there. They gave me pics, not that I know what I am looking at. The pain block on my arm was trippy, it was like my arm was dead. The meds are working good to.
tynan19 10-21-2009, 03:59 PM Great news!
striperman36 10-21-2009, 05:07 PM Always stay ahead of the pain, take your meds before you need them

Some of the best advice. If they have you on an opiate like percocet or vicodin, they work much better at pain prevention than pain alleviation.
Good luck and here's to a speedy recovery!

Johnny, come over to my house after 11/23, I'll have plenty. I am having partial knee replacement. Fortunately, I don't think it is as painful as what The Specialist has just gone through.
Although there appears to be at least 6 power tools involved.

Mmmm... Scooby Snacks. After about 6 hours of standing on the rocks of the canal, my back is screaming for some.
Good Luck on the knee replacement. They're doing incredible things now with really quick recovery.
