View Full Version : Hot turkey delight! A favorite for the cold weather
Saltheart 10-23-2009, 07:43 PM I got a bunch of hotel style turkey breast that stop and shop had onsale this week. Of course I roast them and have a typical turkey dinner when I do.
One of my favorite leftover meals is what I call hot turkey delight. I heat up gravy to almost a boil. I cut chunks of turkey into cubes and put them right in the simmering gravy. I then pour this combination over mashed potatoes and have a side vegetable.
Reheating the leftover turkey by putting it right in the hot gravy will remoisten even the most dried out white meat.
This makes a great cold weather meal. What's some of other peoples favorites for hearty cold weather food.

That's a great idea.I do some thing similar.I cut up hot dogs or leftover steak, and put it in with a can of baked beans. When it's all bubbling it is done.

Classic Franks and Beans. I usually brown up some onions first add the beans and the cut up dogs. Simple, processed, delicious.
But for my favorite cold weather meals - polenta with a nice thick meat sauce and grated parm on top. We used to just spread it out on my grandmothers big wood cutting board in the center of the table and dig in. Another home style favorite is country spare ribs and savoy cabbage. I brown the ribs in olive oil, take them out cook a whole bunch of Garlic and some red pepper flakes in the oil then add a chopped up washed head of savoy cabbage. Put the ribs back maybe add a little water and let it go. Makes a kind of soup broth and wilted cabbage with delicious pork. Eat with some crusty buttered bread. Sounds simple but mmmm
Problem with this thread is I just came in and it feels like a late summer night. weird weather....

MarshCappa 10-26-2009, 08:53 PM Seriously though my mother(Portuguese) was the left over queen. She used to make some hot dog concoction with some sauce and onions, I think it was called muoid(spelling??) hot dogs. That and some potatoe and onion thing that was spicy and I can't remember if it had meat in it but i remember scarfing it down. My family can cook! My wife is ok but not as good as my mother, aunt, and grandmother(all portuguese). My wife is Jewish and she tries like hell but it's just not like growing up. Her gravy is good though and meatballs are good but she can't touch my protuguese side. Sorry honey!
