View Full Version : So who is still fishing the Fall Run?
JohnR 10-26-2009, 10:13 AM Are you done?
Still at it?
Mostly given up but waiting for Reports?
What's a Fall Run?
Give up, NEVER - Fish all year!
piemma 10-26-2009, 10:25 AM I fished 3 hours Sat AM not counting 2 1/2 hours R/T travel and then another 2 hours Sat night in pouring rain not counting another 3 hours of travel. I am still at it. I will be till around the 2 nd weekend in Dec.
Can you say Die Hard?
Bocephus 10-26-2009, 10:28 AM not putting in a lot of effort, but I cant say that Ive hung it up yet.
bassballer 10-26-2009, 10:40 AM 3rd week in november is when I will put the gear away for the winter. Until then ill be going out. Maybe not with the same intensity but ill be fishing.
JohnnyD 10-26-2009, 10:42 AM Done with the canal.
Off to hunt somewhere else for the next few weeks.
Back Beach 10-26-2009, 10:46 AM Still getting plenty of casting practice :laugha: I've given up on the notion of actually catching anything though.
Will likely keep at it for another month or so:musc:
JFigliuolo 10-26-2009, 10:47 AM Home life dictates I get out ~once a week. That really outs a crimp on Fall Fishing as it is WICKED spotty this year.
I'll get out when I can unless Things tick up where it will be worth being in the dog house. So I'm a report watcher for now.
I won’t hang it up until after Thanksgiving weekend at the earliest. Starting to cut back on the number of trips though, my last trip was Friday night and it was pretty slow only had a few small fish in 5-6 hours of fishing. Hoping to do some more blackfishing as well before winterizing the boat if my schedule and the weather cooperate.
spinncognito 10-26-2009, 11:12 AM Casting Practice- well said. At this point if a fish actually went after my plug I would be too surprised to set the hook.
I'll keep fishing but slowly transition into the not-too-exciting but very-tasty activity of smelt fishing. Almost always catch at least a few bass in November but the way this last week has been has got me wondering...
Flaptail 10-26-2009, 11:21 AM Still at it.
Like the years past, 2nd week of December then trout fishing until the water gets stiff, if no stiff water then trout fish till April with waders on.:uhuh:
i am back at it after a 5 day hiatus...
Finaddict 10-26-2009, 11:50 AM Still pursuing, but spotty at best -- although my annual frenzied state is growing stronger by the day as the season continues it winddown ... hopefully November will warm up a bit and keep it going into December like a few years back ...
BigFish 10-26-2009, 11:56 AM Fished my azzzzz off the 3 of the past 4 days....we are talking several spots and many hours......probably around 20 hours.......1 tiny, little, mini, itsy bitsy, teenie weenie, microscopic dink!!!!!!!:wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:
Still at it & I'll give it a go for another few weeks:fishin:
ProfessorM 10-26-2009, 12:44 PM Sat at the Herring run parking lot today in the nice warm sun this morning on one of those park benches around 10 am bumping into canalman, luds, and hunan, only people I saw at canal. No fish breaking and did not make a cast. left at noon. Was hoping for something on the east turn. Nutin. Still going to give it a try for a few more weeks, but not just at canal. Still hoping for a few days of southerly winds so I can take tin out front of Sandy Neck but doesn't look too good for that this week. Maybe Numbskull will ask me to go out off the islands for a last ditch effort like last year. That was around Nov. 7th I think. I hung it up after that.
BigFish 10-26-2009, 12:53 PM I was cape side this am Paul......dead as a door nail!:smash:
FishermanTim 10-26-2009, 02:58 PM I've hung up the gear 'til next year.
I'm shifting my attention and energy over to fresh for trout and the coming ice season.
In my ledger this will be the season that wasn't!
It all began with the spring weather and climaxed with two weekend nor'easters.
PRBuzz 10-26-2009, 03:29 PM B Harbor is now definitely done, not even a nibble today, unless you count the bluefish biting my pollack in half. Time to hit Cuttyhunk tomorrow and the rest of the week.
Slingah 10-26-2009, 03:29 PM I plan on going for a while still...might do some traveling to catch...work is slow and I need to stay occupied.....
got 1 @ 36" on Sat.
eskimo 10-26-2009, 03:41 PM keep going until I don't stand a chance. Slowed down this previous week but still going out every night.
saltwaterhabits 10-26-2009, 03:45 PM Not cold enough yet to flush me out....Picked up a few fish in 'gansett last week and someone else pulled a 30 # out of the same are.. And if it counts, a nice Tuna last week off-shore.
I'm just not ready to pack it yet.Besides I buy too much gear in the off season...Mike
tattoobob 10-26-2009, 04:18 PM I'll be fishing till the weekend after thansgiving

slow eddie 10-26-2009, 05:00 PM still going. one never knows
numbskull 10-26-2009, 05:16 PM Still plugging away at it.
Doublerunner 10-26-2009, 05:32 PM Still at it but pretty much narrowed it down to just a few spots to hit
nightfighter 10-26-2009, 06:06 PM Still catching. Was at dusk today No trophies, but catching sure beats the alternative......
Mike P 10-26-2009, 06:14 PM :hidin:
I had some of my best fishing for numbers (though not for size) last year on the weekend of the 8-9 of November. I left them biting both nights, figuring I'd end the season with a catch. The fish were shorts, but not micros--all in the 22" to 26" range.
Of course, I succumbed to the temptation of a 60 degree night the following Friday and got skunked.
BigFish 10-26-2009, 06:15 PM Its gonna be a damn long winter.....still taking my swings as long as I can!!:fishin:
bassmonkey 10-26-2009, 06:22 PM I only have gotten serious about fishing since getting laid off Sept. 4. Since then I have fished almost every day or night. I have only landed 4 bluefish and 1 bass. the last one was about 3 weeks ago. I have spent a good chunk of my unemployment checks on the next "magic" plug. I will keep fishing until I lose every plug and my unemployment runs out. My wife thinks I am an idiot.

all wives think husbands are idiots, hey, it's what we do.
Raider Ronnie 10-26-2009, 07:00 PM Boat not getting hauled out till dec 1, so not done for a bit more than a month.
SAUERKRAUT 10-26-2009, 07:04 PM I'm still fishing home waters until Nov. 10 or so. I agree it is a long damned winter; so, I make it a little shorter by doing some episodic commuting/plugging the R.I. coast until T'giving. In years past, my favorite has been: (1) catching a bass on my b'day, Nov. 16th; and (2) getting a good enough after MA season bass, photoing it and then bragging to Numbskull about it.
Tagger 10-26-2009, 07:20 PM I put 10hrs. in Sat/Sun combined .. 2 dinks to show for it .. I'm not even considering quitting ... its a long winter ..

I'm always grateful for anything that puts me to sleep in the winter.
t.orlando 10-26-2009, 07:25 PM I'll be fishing the steelhead run starting tomorrow............dos that count?
BEETLE 10-26-2009, 07:27 PM Last 2 sessions at the Ditch 2 dinks. Done with that and can't afford the gas for road trip to R.I. so pretty much done.
:fishin:
vineyardblues 10-26-2009, 07:29 PM Now I sound like BigFish, fished my arse off friday-Sunday.
Not sure what was worse, the fishing or crossing da bridge:wall:
What a freakin mistake:devil2:
Let's not forget the Vineyard derby, deads-ville
Maybe hit that little state below us , cuz their ant no freakin fish in MASS
quick decision 10-26-2009, 08:12 PM I saw mulitple groups of fish pounding bait off a beach somewhere between weymouth and Plymouth. Could not reach them but they were there.
Stewie 10-26-2009, 09:31 PM Did badly last Saturday, Kinda wet on the rocks. I'm not close to done yet. :wavey:
CaptMike 10-27-2009, 08:29 AM I'll fish the cape all year. Probably do one last striper trip over Thanksgiving then switch to bass/perch/trout. I fish the Chesapeake all winter for stripers
JoeBass 10-27-2009, 10:28 AM no more striper fishing (I would if I was closer), but last Sunday had the best trout day of the year, here in Vermont. Took my son for his 17th birthday. We had been skunked the 3 previous trips. Second cast he hooks the biggest rainbow trout I've ever seen....Broke off at his feet. Guessing 26-28 inches. But all was not lost....landed a dozen more trout over the next 2 hours. None as big, but all were nice.
eastendlu 10-27-2009, 10:38 AM I am south of you all so my fishing season is a bit longer so i will be at it until my hands freeze thru my gloves.Lots of bait around and the water is warmer than usual for this time of year.No big fish lately but have had some success.
Crafty Angler 10-27-2009, 11:59 AM I'm still at it - albeit at a more...relaxed pace
Figure I'm good 'til Thanksgiving but I'm gonna have to drive to the Mainland...
Hey, Cap - no wisecracks about being surprised at me havin' an E-Z-Pass either...:hihi:
Hell, I may even do a commando trip to a UDL next month...:)
You know that God hates a quitter
Higgie 10-27-2009, 05:27 PM I took a couple from the surf today somewhere north of the ditch.
Fished incoming tide from beach North of canal last Thursday and was into a steady (like every cast) pick of bass from 16-30" on a variety of plugs and metal. Totalled 50+ fish in 4 hours. Weather and work schedule have stopped me temporarily but no thoughts of quitting yet. I just keep moving and casting moving and casting this time of year until I find fish
BassDawg 10-28-2009, 05:08 PM still at it, just not so much~~~~
w/ends are jammed now that i'm BACK TO WORK!!!
:jump: :jump: :jump:

Nope - look a little pricey for a jigged sandeel
Rmarsh 10-30-2009, 06:17 AM Still some decent stripers to be had in the bay.
Last nights efforts produced a 23# and 24#, both on eels, both released unharmed.
Just started using cirlce hooks again and they worked great!

This hurts. I'm standing on the other side of the bay looking across at you and I can't even find a dink. Knowing you're getting them gives me hope, however.
Islander77 10-30-2009, 10:27 AM ok you forgot the option of " still will be fishing when so cold you have to fish for 5 mins. then warm up in truck for 10 mins" I was fishing last year well into the single digits or no digits!!!! sorry ocd and cant sit still makes sucks to be me...lmao
ivanputski 11-03-2009, 09:07 PM I picked up a package of the vision sand eels at a show... they looke dnice... I asked the price, and quickly put them back... Nice artificial, but definitely overpriced!
