Last year, after watching the "Cutty Crew" at C H preform knot strength tests........I would have to say seaguar fluoro sux:hee:. I know other guru's who have done them same tests, comparing different knots and brands and the results where the same. I've only purchased two spools of it and in my opinion, for what you pay you get poor fluorocarbon.

I use Jinkai mono 60# on alot of my leaders(eels,chunks..live bait) jinkai mono leader rules:hee: 100 yrd of 60# with a dia. of 0.74 is about 8 bucks.

I've been wanting to try other offshore brands of fluorocarbon. Has anyone tried any of these and what are some of the pros and cons. Thanks

Jinkai
Momoi extra-clear
Sufix Invisiline

i used to use seaguar 60# and 50#, but i think it is too expensive. switched over to jinkaii leader material coils in 60# and 80#. i love it! definately my new leader line of choice! just have to find a better way to transport it. i don't really like the large coil it comes in.

I have used Segaur Fluorocarbon in the past from 30-80lb test and I have also used Jinkai leader material from 40-80lb test. I now longer use the Segaur, however I do use the Jinkai in the Spring, it is great leader material for the price. Take into consideration I do use it in the spring in stained water or very poor visibility, therefore I really don't find a need for Fluorocarbon in those conditions.
Fishing clear water such as in Rhody and the Cape in mild weather and bright nights I would highly recomend Fluorocarbon. Take it for what its worth, but I have found that it does make a difference in certain conditions. I would recommend you try the Orvis Mirage Fluorocarbon. It is what I use and like most. At $15.95 for a 30meter spool it is MUCH cheaper than Seguar and other brands of Fluorocarbon, (By about 40%+). For 2003 they had made Orvis Mirage 20% Stronger so I am even more anxious to try this years and compare. It really is great stuff.....

After seeing the pics of fish Cowhunter posted on another board, any thing he says is gospel to me. That boy knows how to fish!

My usual haunts have 15 foot visibility, so the fishy can't really tell the difference. I've not had any problems with knot strength and I've been using 30# Seagar.

I bought a 100yd spool of Jinkai 50# mono last year for leaders, after looking at the price of the flouro

Does Jinkai make special "leader" material, or is what you use labeled "monofilament"?

I have been using seagar the past 3 years and have never had a problem. I fish rocks 90% of the time and this line gets pretty beat up. I have landed alot of big fish with it and it is going to stay in my tackle bag. Is the off shore line you are talking about flourocarbon?

Jinkai also makes Fluorocarbon leader material, just not as easy to get a hold of....

Where do you get the orvis leaders you are talking about. On their web site I see them but they are for fly lines. Got-a-link?
BTW, for the past 2 years I have been using berkely vanish flor. leaders and they are ok, not great but ok (40#). Knot strenght is not as good as I would like it to be. But flor. is indeed clearer then plain heavy mono and I have noticed a difference in more hookups.
There are a lot more leaders out there now and I have only used a couple.

I am fortunate to have an Orvis store near me so I pick it up there. If you go to the Orvis Website the Item number is J46t3-00.
It is on page 42 in their catalog...

By the way , I am curious as to what kind of knots everyone is using. I use a Polymar knot and never have any problems with it...I never have the line break at the knot. The only plase I am getting broken off is on the mainline which is 65lb Whiplash, I kind of expect it when I can't muscle a fish out of the rocks...

CowHunter - you try the new stealth yet? i swore by the 65# whiplash, but that has been discontinued. :smash: spiderwire stealth is supposed to be the whiplash replacement. just picked up some of the stealth in the 65#. i liked it when i saw it at the Wor. fishing show.
