1, 2 and 3 :wall::wall:. had a better yr in the canal last yr. Other than a few a.m.'s in the spring and a few nights/mornings in the fall, wasnt the best yr

My nickname this year was "One Day Late."

Seemed like I was always 12-16 hours behind the fish. "You should've been here this morning" or "Yesterday was incredible" was frequently said to me. Had my last keeper from the canal the night before Father's Day.

Just about all year at the canal was my biggest all-around disappointment this season.

Didn't fish as much as I would have liked to. Didn't get out to the Race even once. Only caught 7 fish, one a wounded blue by hand and the rest were tinker macs..All the sacrifice to get chores done didn't get them all done. That will change next year.

My son Leo did very little fishing on my boat this year.
Little league baseball & pop warner football took up most of his time.
But, His pop warner team went undefeated and have won their 1st 2 playoff games. They play their super bowl in Plymouth this coming sunday.
Charters were very good, did a ton of offshore trips, not a lot of harbor trips.

Wish I fished more with my friends.

Wish I was able to actully fish with Nightfighter on the vineyard as opposed to just chatting for AWHILE.

Small yellowfin in the canyons. Few over 50lb made for a lot of small throwbacks. Never disapointing to be out there, but constant small knockdowns is like getting into 5lb bluefish instead of 30lb bass....
Never enough offshore runs.

May was good, but June on was a struggle in the surf.

Highlight was 29 Sept 2009 though!

The worse July and August fishing in the last 15-years.

Followed by the best September fishing I have ever had.

Followed by only one night of fishing in October due to working night shift 6 days/ 12 hours. Every three years I lose October due to work. Now that sucks.

Can't wait for 2010

no real regrets here. didn't catch as much as i would have liked, but i got out when i could (which was a decent amount) and feel like i caught what i could. some years are always going to be better in terms of size and numbers, its part of fishing in general and especially surf fishing where so much is out of our control. found a few new spots, one of which produced a fish in the mid 40s which was right around my previous PB. i feel like the weather had a serious impact on how often and how effectively i was able to fish this year, but you can't really regret the weather.

My annual trip in the fall on my buddies boat, southern Maine, mid September.. Every year it's lit up with striper action. This year not one fish. Other than that, it was a fun year striper fishing.

my biggest regret of the season was not getting out in the boat with my dad at all this season.

I also did not spend enough time fishing with a few other people that I should have taken the opportunity to get out there with.

Personally when I did get out there I was pretty satisfied, lost a few nice ones but that's what keeps us coming back...caught my personall best then beat that the same night.

Had a nice teaching gig over the summer that was good for $$ but bad for fishing time. I went out when I could and almost always found fish around the Elizabeth Islands including my new PB.

I guess I regret not buying some good tuna gear to give myself a better chance at actually landing the two I hooked up with.

I had set a goal to catch a striper over 30# from the kayak this season.
I have been haunted for the last 2 years by the loss of a very large striper that towed me around for what seemed like an hour.
Got to see it up close and even got my hands on it but slipped away from me.
This year I only got out to fish from the kayak a few times, caught a dogfish and a couple of blues.

I had 3.

This year I gambled, changing things up, trying to key in on areas and conditions that would have a chance of giving up a true giant. Here's what ending up happening.

Was fishing a rocky point on an island with a real bad swell. Hooked a real heavy fish on a giant dead eel. Def. a bass as it did multiple head shakes, did the whole bull dog thing, would not get off the bottom. After 12 minutes (which is rediculously long to have a bass on, but I always look at my watch when I hook a good fish) I had the fish beat, up on its side, saw the thing, then a massive swell washed the fish from left to right about 20 feet cutting the mainline on a large boulder. Nothing I could do. It felt like someone ripped my heart out. Absolute mean and ugly pig that was lost. I would have been able to hand up all my gear and move on to another sport after landing that fish. This same thing happened again a few weeks after.

Weeks later, fished the same spot, opposite tide and opposite wind. My father hooked a fish that weighed 38# on my boga, which he landed in minutes. The same time he hooked that fish I hooked another behemoth, completely owned me, hugging the bottom. Tried picking its head up, no success, backed off the drag to let it run higher in the water column, no success. Fish ended up getting tied up in rocks and breaking the swivel as it must have gotten jammed between 2 rocks. After landing other numerous nice fish my father hooked another tank that once it figured out it was hooked never turned back and broke his line.

Given that I hardly ever break large fish off, this has been continually haunting me. Hopefully I can get keyed in on that same window again next year, and get those fish to run a different direction when hooked. Nights like those keep you heading back!

No regrets this season, but Nahant SUUUUUCKED! Time to find another spot north of Boston. I do work 3 minutes from Winthrop, though...
Plenty of good fish for me, got a 2# brookie, which tasted freaking AWESOME!!! I think the only thing that I missed was not getting a wolffish.
