JohnnyD 11-03-2009, 04:04 PM Feeling the power of and landing my first tuna after obsessing about it and logging dozens of hours on the water trying. Not huge, about 58", but quite amazing.
Landed it last Tuesday on what will probably be my last trip on the water this season.
FishermanTim 11-03-2009, 04:24 PM My first full season on the yak.
Logged a boatload of hours day and night on that thing, fresh and salt.
(Funny how traveling over a mile doesn't feel like it when you are having fun!)
Learning to how to use rubber frogs (day and night) with consistant success.
Getting out ON the water with minimal investment and loving it.
Bittersweet anticipation of the upcoming ice fishing season.
Looking forward to 2010!

Totally forgot: working this board and meeting several new fishing buddies. Some like boats, some don't. BTW: I've applied to join MSBA and hope to meet others in 2010.
quick decision 11-03-2009, 06:30 PM Its not over for me yet.
Tagger 11-03-2009, 07:48 PM Didn't fall down all season .. I'm overdue .. :err:
MAKAI 11-03-2009, 08:42 PM only hooked myself twice.
once through the nose,
justplugit 11-03-2009, 09:10 PM Season ain't over, but high lite was taking my 2yr old twin grandsons
fishing for the first time.
One at a time of course. :hihi:
Worst was yesterday when i aired down to #12 and got stuck
turning in real soft sand. Then realized i hadn't put it in 4X4. :smash:
capecodkid 11-03-2009, 09:42 PM The labor day weekend Albie feeds were the best of the season. Continued through until the beginning of October but just not quite as good as on labor day weekend. Had some silly easy days in spring on lt/fly, to many 28-36" fish to count.
stinkyink 11-04-2009, 01:37 AM Season highlight this year was catching my personal best 41# 51in on the forth of july. Fireworks were blastin all over the bay. Won't forget that night.
the point 11-04-2009, 02:15 AM 1.Watching my Son pull in his PB at the Canal.
2.Slingah for hooking me up with a killer door.
3. Wait for the season to be over to post #3
afterhours 11-04-2009, 06:26 AM memorial day massacre :)
The Dad Fisherman 11-04-2009, 06:50 AM As Always, The Cutty trip was a highlight.
Having the 1st North Shore S-B Leg and meeting some different guys from the board.
The 1st Annual Bomba Ice Fishing tourney was a blast also.
Watching my daughter catch a 4+ lb. largemouth on her own was awesome.
July LMB fishing was amazing this year....banged 3 over 5lbs and a 1/2 dozen 4lb'ers....all within 5 minutes of the house.
Caught a couple of Nice Carp earlier in the year. Gonna target these fish more often next season...a lot of fun on freshwater tackle
and on a personal note......since I didn't get out fishing the salt as much as I wanted, I usd the time to get in shape....dropped 60 lbs. and am sitting at a comfortable 192 these days.....lightest I've been since I was 19. Looking to get down to 185 and hitting the gym this winter
afterhours 11-04-2009, 07:15 AM ...and cutty.
Odizza 11-04-2009, 07:29 AM catchin my new pb and two block trips
Backbeach Jake 11-04-2009, 07:40 AM Flipping my kayak and actually finding my rods..
Sea Dangles 11-04-2009, 09:30 AM Fishing with my oldest son in the canal this Spring. We must have released close to 30 fish between 20-30 pounds on Memorial Day
Caught a 180# tuna on my VS 275 which was a hurting highlight.
Managed to put up a 40 for an ASA tournament in Ct. this summer to put us in the $$$.
Another 40 class fish from shore this year which helped Team Striper win the Cup again.
Lots of shooting stars, breaking fish and awesome sunrises to enhance the senses as a bonus to what is already quality time.
Lots of laughs with good friends trying to figure out where it all went wrong this season.
What I would give for another warm morning with breaking tides at the canal to ride around and BS with some of the fine members of the fishing community.Oh well....next year.
1)Fished Cutty twice, Block, The Cape, and RI many, many times this year.
2)Caught a bunch of decent fish. (no monsters but I had fun)
3)Had some fun with the whole wetsuit thing
4)Learned new spots close to home and caught some good fish in them.
Rockfish9 11-04-2009, 09:42 AM My biggest bass ever on a fly.. no weight or length, I was in a mooring area( I was alone) and only had time to scoop her off the deck snap her picture and set her free...( disregard the date on the photo.. obviously, we have no bass here in january)
BS4Shore 11-04-2009, 09:49 AM had a blast getting out on my buddys boat Albie fishing with good friends...
then there was this...
fishbones 11-04-2009, 10:06 AM My highlight fish wise was catching 20lb+ bass on almost every other cast on a pencil popper on Memorial day. I wasn't even planning on fishing, but my wife told me to make a few casts before we packed up the car to head home.
Also, got my son out a bunch of times fishing freshwater and he loves it. Everytime he reels in a fish he gets excited like it's the first time.
Another highlight that wasn't so much about the catching, but was fun was getting a chance to fish with RIJimmy and Spence this season.
SweetD 11-04-2009, 10:19 AM 1) Largest bass to date - 39 lbs. - and released.
2) first ever BFT - barely legal, but still cool
3) Tagged and released more stripers than last year, about 35 T & Rs
4) Had my second recaptured T & R bass in as many years, this time it was caught at the North Rip at BI on an eel by my early July, and recaptured two months later on the fly at Martha's Vineyard. Cool stuff.
5) First (and only) Atlantic Bonito caught on a rebel-like plug near Narrow River early October.
6) Took my eight year old daughter last month down to Pt. Judith on the boat and chased snapper blues around for a few hours on a beautiful afternoon. Our first "real" fishing trip where she enjoyed it the whole time. It just doesn't get any better than that.

blondterror 11-04-2009, 10:22 AM Night fishing in June from my hobie yak both in Joppa and barnstable harbor.
My biggest bass ever on a fly.. no weight or length, I was in a mooring area( I was alone) and only had time to scoop her off the deck snap her picture and set her free...( disregard the date on the photo.. obviously, we have no bass here in january)
that is one nice fish on the fly...
Bocephus 11-04-2009, 11:58 AM Best memory this year was one morning in May, caught 10 good fish before sunrise. When the sun came up and boats started crowding me, I moved and found ALOT of pogies in a bait ball against the shore. Pulled trebles off all my plugs and livelined em, 3 hrs later the blitz stopped when the pogies left. 20 more fish that morning, all were over 20lbs, and most were around 30. All the boat dudes were drooling, they couldnt get to them. I was so tired I let a kid and his Dad that were watching catch a couple with my gear while I rested. Seeing them having fun was almost as good as catching all those fish. And all those fish were CnR. That and a personal best of 35lbs in fall.
InTheHole 11-04-2009, 01:09 PM I caught my largest bluefin to date (64") back in June with all 3 of my sons on board, that was a rush.
That same day we were over a school of bass and blues in about 60' of water and we had the kids vertical jigging over them for almost an hour, biggest fish was 35", and I can still see the look on their faces as they were hooking up and trying to battle these fish to the top on light setups. That was my biggest highlight of the season and all I did was unhook fish!!
Flaptail 11-04-2009, 02:21 PM Being able to turn on my friends George and Alan to some bigger fish in my usual haunts rather than they dragging my ass around to thier big fish spots for the last 15 plus years.
I still owe them big time but the account is nearer to getting out of the red.
JoeBass 11-04-2009, 03:46 PM Anticipating striper fishing for months...then when I finally get there, on my second cast with a fly into the surf hooking and landing a small, but very memorable 28" bass. I caught many more, a bunch bigger, but that was just great. The next morning I got my 16 yr old son into a similar fish on a fly...I'm guessing that was his highlight....and another one of mine.
Striper_Haven_03 11-04-2009, 06:09 PM The night before the first big north-east blow 3 weeks ago.....1-3am....25-35 class smashing eels on the first wave on what seemed like every other cast for over 2 hours. Unreal.
tattoobob 11-04-2009, 06:47 PM 1) Not getting skunked once this year,
2) Fishing with my Son alot this year
3) Finding Pogies pushed up against the beach and big fish slamming them, Teaching my son how to snag and drop then watching his reel scream
4) 4 hour Blitz at Race Point in Smokies boat all 18 to 35 pound fish on Salty's plugs he was going to throw away.
5)up coming Trip Block Island with Tagger and DZ Next week
Many more but I have to pack
Bronko 11-04-2009, 06:49 PM Last day in September. Completely alone, gusting SW 25-30 in the ditch for the last few hours of the West. Completely dead for 3 hours and then it was like someone flipped a switch. Cast eel count to five and set up on a 20-30lb fish. 9 eels 9 casts 9 quality fish. Wouldn't touch anything else.:buds:
Tagger 11-04-2009, 09:15 PM I got a sea robin on a plug. :uhuh:
Amazing George .. My vote for angler of the year ,, bet you can't do that again ..
JohnnyD 11-04-2009, 11:29 PM Amazing George .. My vote for angler of the year ,, bet you can't do that again ..
Very interesting looking fish. Never seen one in person.
Brian L 11-05-2009, 04:33 AM Had a great year of fishing and fished more than I have in five or more years. Met some new people to fish with, and learned a lot of things about surf fishing, and a lot of new areas to fish from the Canal and the Surf.
Started the season smoking them in the sweetwater with BackBeach, had PB Tog in May, Best Fluke Trip Ever in Late May(no pics but boated 100# in under an hour with 9 Jumbos, PB 35# Canal Fish in August (see avatar), 40lber in Sep in SOCO, Sep Cliffwalk Trip with DZ was educational, new, and fun!, Best Tog Trip ever two weeks ago (16 fish limit in 45 minutes with 6lb average).
Hopefully there's a few more highlights to come. Got three more weeks of Tog Fishing before pulling the Lema Skiff out of the water. Woohooo!
Little Round 11-05-2009, 05:51 AM PB bass on the FLY
wahoo, yellows, and mahi within sight of MV
71" tuna on my own rubber with a charter
Untill mid august I didnt catch one fish on anything other than my own rubber.
insane surface feeds pretty much all year, either over the bay in the spring, down the rips, or tuna fishing.
RickBomba 11-05-2009, 06:08 AM FABBIT was fun (look out for SABBIT announcements, soon to come)!
Father's Day Weekend we crushed them all topwater from the shore.
February ice at the cape with Fred.
It was a great year!
Back Beach 11-05-2009, 09:21 AM Got a PB largemouth this year that was around the 8# mark. Freshwater fishing was outstanding from early April through mid May.
Striper fishing was good too. Memorial Day weekend at the canal was fun w /TO, Redlite and Throwing Timber’s identical twin :hee:
Then there’s the commando trip with Numbskull and Sauerkraut…despite all the ball busting they’re two of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and super anglers to boot. I gained much respect for Numby after trying to keep up with him on a remote destination one night…He took a good wave right over his head which nearly floored him, but looked up with a big %$%$%$%$ eating grin on his face and beckoned me to come on out with him…I chickened out though.:laugha:
Wet suiting was fun and productive as well. Actually it was more fun than productive, but I did get one good one.
For me, fishing is becoming less about the catch and more about the company. Next year my son will be joining me more in the salt.
Rappin Mikey 11-05-2009, 09:44 AM Slammin big fish all Father's Day weekend with my dad and bro on top water at the Race. Can't beat that!!
piemma 11-05-2009, 11:13 AM My biggest bass ever on a fly.. no weight or length, I was in a mooring area( I was alone) and only had time to scoop her off the deck snap her picture and set her free...( disregard the date on the photo.. obviously, we have no bass here in january)
WOW Awesome fish on a fly
Clogston29 11-05-2009, 12:23 PM have a couple
the cutty trip in the spring was great as always, despite the lack of fish for me
landing the winner of the Leo Almeida tournament with a 38 on my first cast of the tournament, then not breaking 20 the rest of the weekend. fish hit on the first turn of the handle, an hour before it was "supposed" to turn on based on the tide.
landing a 45 on my second trip to a new spot i found, after landing a 30 my first trip. i'll be going back there.
fishing the hab's tournament with luds. we didn't catch much, i lost two heartbreakers, and we got the %$%$%$%$ kicked out of us by waves (when i took off my wetsuit i had blood running down both shins - i still have scabs there that just won't do away) but it was alot of fun.
Higgie 11-05-2009, 06:21 PM Spending the first three months of my first season in the salt chasing fish and then finally finding them.
Meeting people with the same obsession
getting engaged to my amazing fiance
ProfessorM 11-05-2009, 07:53 PM Spring fishing in the tin boat is always a highlight and this spring did not disappoint. My comm. season went decent, not stellar as I refused to go all the way across the Bay to bumper car fish with the masses, but stayed closer to my home port and found some decent amounts of fish and much more relaxed conditions. Did bass fish with BigJay on his boat over there, Race P., one morning and we did real good. Only got out twice for Fluke which was a bummer but did have a real nice day with my 9 year old daughter with lots of hook ups. Oh and the canal treated me ok too this year. Saw some beauties landed by friends but I did not get anything to write home about. Been finding myself fishing the canal more and more the last several years, as I gave it a good break for while there. But without a doubt it was the 3 consecutive days of the best Albie fishing I have ever seen. Thanks to Jim and Ernie for the clue in. I will also add the last 2 days plug fishing along the Elizabeth islands with George and Art. Not the biggest fish I have ever caught but truly some of the nicest fishing areas I have ever fished. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. IMO the most enjoyable fishing one could ever partake in, throwing plugs along the shore. Plus being shown the ins and outs by two extremely knowledgeable and fun guys was a learning experience in itself. A good year in my book. Man I am one lucky fisherman for the amount of time I can get out. Thanks to my family for allowing me to fish so much. I appreciate it. Come on spring.
Slipknot 11-05-2009, 08:06 PM Memorial Day was quite memorable.

Good for you. I have to get your wife to talk to my wife about expanding my fishing hours.
Mike P 11-05-2009, 09:56 PM There really was a fall run this year---at least for some of us ;)

BigFish 11-05-2009, 10:11 PM My buddy Joey G. beached this fish in the Big River 2 weeks ago today! 44 inches, 36 1/2 pounds....a real pig! Joes highlight for the season!:kewl:
Mad Hatter 11-06-2009, 11:05 AM Cutty. Dead when we arrived with 17 other boats trying to figure out what the #@*% was going on. Had to work it really hard on the back side until wind changed, producing a couple of good fish and blues until your arms got tired. Great day...Christian is a striper savant....
RIROCKHOUND 11-06-2009, 12:58 PM #1 Highlight: 29 Sept 2009
Slow year in the surf for me, fished less than normal inshore. Offshore was lots of small yellows, few of note.
All in the canyons.
