PROVINCETOWN - Part-time Yarmouth resident Dave Lamoureux, 42, a Wall Street trader from Chicago, caught a 157-pound tuna early this morning from his kayak off Race Point Beach in Provincetown.

Unfortunately for Lamoureux, the record for a tuna caught from a kayak is 187 pounds.

Lamoureux has been trying since August to beat world records set for tuna-fishing from a kayak. His tuna was weighed this afternoon at Goose Hummock in Orleans.

Lamoureux said he caught the tuna using his family's 12-foot kayak, after being out on the water at the "crack of dawn." He pulled it to the shore in the Cape Cod National Seashore. A boater came along and then helped him tow it to Fisherman's Wharf.

Since August he has caught a 60-pound tuna and an 80-pound one, and lost more than a dozen others. Lamoureux said he is pursuing the world record for the "adrenaline rush."

Hope he has a HMS permit :rotf2:

(but it has GOT to be a rush if not a smidge damn dangerous)

November off Race Point in a kayak fighting a tuna? That is pushing your luck unless you have a boat on standby. August is one thing, November you die fast if you go over.

This guy isn't too smart if he don't have the permit. It is needed.

i happen to know Dave, he is not an egomaniac, that fish will not go in the dumpster.i am almost positive that he has the license. i told him how to get it for his kayak.he wouldn't be trying to set a record by taking fish illegally.

I permit is needed. There is no legal fishing for bluefin except from a permitted vessel. Regardless, this is an amazing accomplishment...I just hope he was legal.

Dave does have the permit, as well as a %^$#load of safety gear and radio etc., but it is abit dangerous especially now.

I thought this did the resord for unassisted - yak out, catch, yak back - no assist boats- but maybe not. He texted me last night about it, I'll call him and get the scoop.

Better than killing fish for laughs on a website. Right now a bluefin is easier to come by than a bluefish.
