Well,
It might be a little early, but I thought I would announce the Second Annual Bomba Bros Ice Tourney, brought to you by S-B.com.

Date - Saturday, January 23, 2010
Site - East Brimfield Resevoir
Time - 7:00 Am to 2:00 Pm
Entry - $15 or Custom Wood Plug

Last year's event was great, with about 50 participants. Good food, good times, and awesome prizes! The winner last year got about a 6 pound bass right at the opening bell. Cheap lodging is close, about two miles from the lake. The Bombas will be there the night before, so we'll have festivites at the local Picadilly Pub on Friday and Saturday nights.

Please RSVP to this thread if you plan to attend. It's a great time, and a fun way to hang out with the S-B.com crowd before the fishing show scene starts.

John, can you make this thread sticky???

Rules, directions, and lodging details to follow.

Thanks,
Rick and Mike

guys, I have zero interest in ice fishing and hate the frikin cold, but for some reason my kids really have been bugging me to take them ice fishing after watching it on OTW tv. Im never going to invest the time/money to do it so....Is this a kid friendly event? Can we stop by for an hour or two and pretend they have a Dad that has a clue? I can bring food or whatever.

Rappin Mikey
11-12-2009, 05:13 PM
Of course it is kid friendly. I mean, Ricky gets a bit wobbly by the end of the day, but he's harmless. A good number of our participants (and a few winners) were youngens last year. I'll have my auger to make getting set up for you a bit easier. PM me for more info on gear if you want.

The Dad Fisherman
11-12-2009, 05:34 PM
Jimmy, I got access to an underwater camera that I'm planning on bringing so the kids can check out what goes on under the ice.

Ya drill 2 holes side by side...one for the camera and one for them to jig through. They get to watch as the fish come swimming up to check things out.

Tynan brought his little guys lasy last year....if you're nice you might be able to talk him into a "Super Push" :hihi:

RickBomba
11-12-2009, 06:23 PM
Yes, it's absolutely kid friendly...just make sure you get a MA license and you're good to go. I think we could spot you a jiggin stick or two, and somebody probably has bait. Kev's underwater camera sounds awesome, too.
I wasn't that wobbly last year!!!
Later,
Rick

OK Here's some info:
Start 7 AM End 2 PM
Brought to you by the Bombas and Striped Bass.com

Come meet the Bombas for an ice fishing extravaganza. Entry fee is one custom, wood plug or $15 per person. Prizes for three largest bass and three largest pickeral, by weight (there will most likely be other participants who enter with cash, so pre-determined rules to follow).

John, please make this sticky!
Come one, come all, you gonna loose you plugs!

Please register with me via pm, as we get closer to the event, I will provide tournament rules, prizes, and directions. I am also guessing that there will be an impromptu awards ceremony at a local restaurant to follow.

We will be checking the ice in the weeks leading up to the event, but we were out there last year, same week, and there was 8-10" safe ice (pretty warm last year). If the ice is not safe, date will be pushed back.

Later,
Rick

Rules are as follows:

Official Bomba Bros Ice Fishing Tournament Rules:

Fishing to begin as soon as horn is sounded (7 AM) and will proceed until tournament has ended at 2 PM, when the horn has sounded. Participants will have 5 minutes after the 2 PM Horn to weigh in all final fish. Any fish weighed in after 2:05 PM (time measured via Rick Bombardier’s cell phone) will be disqualified.

All participants must pay or surrender an entry fee equal to either one, custom made wooden striped bass fishing lure or $15. Entry fee must be paid prior to a participant placing a tip up or fishing rod in the water, or the participant will be disqualified. Fish cannot be weighed until the entry fee has been surrendered to the judges.

In no way are the persons Richard G. Bombardier, Jr. and/or Michael J. Bombardier responsible for the following areas, either personally or financially:
Personal injury to participants.
Requirement by Massachusetts State Law to be in possession of a valid Massachusetts Fishing License.
Personal conduct of participants.
Safety or welfare of any or all participants.

Official weigh in procedures are as follows:
All participants must bring prospective fish to the pre-determined weigh-station and be weighed by a pre-determined judge. Judges are appointed by Richard G. Bombardier, Jr. and/or Michael J. Bombardier. Any pre-determined judge has the explicit right to weigh fish and record results, and the judge’s findings shall be found to be comlpetely objective at time of weigh in. There shall be no challenge to judge’s said finding by a contestant, as contestants shall initial record along with judge weighing contestant's catch. Said judge will record the weight of the fish, and said judge’s record of weight shall stand toward and consideration of prize for the tournament.

Any prospective fish must be brought to the weigh-station alive. The fish will be weighed and the fish's weight recorded, along with the prospective angler’s name. Each weighed fish will then be put back into the ice at the weigh station, through a hole, immediately. Weighed fish may not be kept by an individual, unless subsequently marked by the judge, with a knife, which shall be done by severing the weighed fish’s tail, so the fish may be identified as not to be re-weighed.

All weighing shall be performed with a scale designated by Richard G. Bombardier, Jr. and/or Michael J. Bombardier.

Prizes shall be determined by the following criteria:
First Prize will be awarded to Largest Largemouth Bass, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
Second Prize will be awarded to Largest Pickeral, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
Third Prize will be awarded to Second Largest Bass, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
Fourth Prize will be awarded to Third Largest Bass, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
Fifth Prize will be awarded to Second Largest Pickeral, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
Sixth Prize will be awarded to Third Largest Pickeral, and will receive one prize blended as lures and cash.
There will be a wild card prize awarded to largest perch and largest crappie. If these fish are not submitted, the prizes shall be drawn by raffle.

Fishing Rules:
A fish that is caught shall be submitted by the angler who plays the fish to the hole. Fish must be submitted by an individual who had physical hands on the line that brings the fish to the hole.

Fishing in teams in commonplace among ice fishing anglers; however, a fish may only be submitted by the angler that played the fish to the hole. .

If any person is suspected of team weigh-ins, they may be disqualified by Richard G. Bombardier, Jr. and/or Michael J. Bombardier.

It should be noted that the fisherman who played the fish to the hole must weigh the fish!

In conclusion:
I affirm that I am in compliance with this document.
I affirm that I accept all said rules of the tournament.
I will not hold either Richard G. Bombardier, Jr. or Michael J. Bombardier responsible for any disputes of this contract.
I will fish my hardest to win this tournament in a fair and true manner.

THESE RULES MAY BE UPDATED OR AMMENDED PRIOR TO THE START OF THE TOURNAMENT!

I HEREBY MAKE THIS DECLARATION TODAY

So 5 miles away from the SABBIT location there were people skating on my lake. It was in a cove and the two skaters were of questionable sobriety but they did not go thru the ice. This is by no means an endorsement of safe ice. The snow is not going to be helping the ice at all. But we are getting there.

Plenty of ice where I'm at a bit further down the pike. In fact, I'll be going for pike tomorrow. I'd say, as long as we don't have another 4 day warm front like that, and a few more days like today, we should have no worries.

So, I think turnout is going to be pretty good (maybe 100 people), and I am thinking that the prizes should be revamped. I'd like to do 10 prizes, as follows:

1. 1st prize, biggest bass
2. 2nd prize, second biggest bass
3. 3rd prize, biggest pickeral
4. 3rd biggest bass
5. 2nd biggest pickeral
6. 3rd biggest pickeral
7. 4th biggest bass
8. 4th biggest pickeral

Wildcards
1. Biggest panfish
2. 2nd biggest panfish

I'm going to take 85% of the money and 100% of the plugs and divide them up accordingly.

I'm also going to take the other 15% of the money and use it to buy food so we all can have a great gourmet meal on the ice.

The only thing I ask is that everybody brings some plates, utensils, napkins, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pack out your trash.

Sound good everybody??? Now let's get a rollcall of everybody who's going.

Later,
Rick

PS - We've got two scales right now...thinking that we should have three weigh in zones with three weigh masters. My crew is usually on the western edge of the res, and we'll use Messy Matty or myself as a weigh master.

I'm thinking there should be the northeast contingent, who could be maybe Tynan or Rob Rock in that end.

Then south with somebody who'd like to volunteer, but we'll need one more scale. Maybe WESTPORTMAFIA or Hemdukas if one of you guys has a scale???
Let me know,

OK, so I have some updates as far as logistics and rules go:

1. All contestants will need to register with me before they can weigh a fish. Entry fee is $15 or one custom made wood plug.

2. I'll need the help of weighmasters. Westport, if you're down, you can be one, and I'm looking for one more. Weighing fish makes the day go by fast, but it sucks if you get tips. People will need to travel to the weighmasters to weigh the fish. We'll try to be strategically distributed around the res. I usually fish the western side, maybe Westport can be on the northeast and another on the southeast.

3. Fishing starts at 7 am...that means you can put traps in the water at 7.

Well that's it for now. Any ideas, let me know, and I'd be happy to take them into consideration.
Thanks,
Rick

Hi Slip,
I'm sure the ice will hold all of us, I hear there's like 15" or something crazy like that.
Parking in the lot will certainly fill up, but you can park on Champeaux...I've seen cars parked all the way up the hill before. I know that my group of 7 will be in 2 cars so we're trying to be as parking friendly as possible. We can always shuttle cars back to Yankee Spirits if we need to.

We'll then shuttle Paliaso's truck back to Yankee Spirits, to save spots. We ask that any crews who come in multiple cars do the same, so parking is available for all.
