View Full Version : Accessories You Love?
numbskull 11-11-2009, 07:21 AM Buying season is soon at hand.
What fishing accessory (lets limit it to items under $100) do you find makes your fishing better and you'd recommend to others?
I'm going with Simms fingerless gloves.
Back Beach 11-11-2009, 07:30 AM I'm going with Simms fingerless gloves.
Its about time...your nostrils can't stretch out much further.
JohnR 11-11-2009, 07:49 AM Camelback backpack. Makes long walks and packing light comfortable. Throw a little wake-me-up in the reservoir.
decksweeper 11-11-2009, 07:51 AM I'd say of the accessories that I use regularly, most things are pretty interchangeable, with the exception of my VS pliers. I feel sort of lost with out them.
BigFish 11-11-2009, 08:07 AM $100.00 is kind of low?? So I will agree with Decksweeper.......the 1 item I would not go fishing without is definitely my VS pliers!! Many scoff at the price, I paid $250 for mine about.......5 years ago??? I have never changed the blades and I have cut a couple hooks out of people with them! However I recommend to anyone fishing do not be without a pair of cutters as one day you will have an emergency and they will be there for you!!:uhuh:
tattoobob 11-11-2009, 08:48 AM I must have a Z-Bass now that I have seen Taggers
BigFish 11-11-2009, 08:50 AM Have you seen it with any fish on it??? Lately???
Clogston29 11-11-2009, 08:59 AM uk vision head lamp (only light i've had last over a month - going into third year)
small princeton tech backup flashlight
aquaskinz gloves
vs pliers (although i broke the cutters on a hook and had to get them replaced)
those little rubber gasket things from EMS that hold a water bottle and clip to your belt
some rope with stainless steel clips on each end for leashing / carrying fish
nike dryfit baseball hat
uk vision head lamp (only light i've had last over a month - going into third year)
Awesome light. I just started using it a few months ago, and Im really happy with it.
Rockfish9 11-11-2009, 09:43 AM I've tried many different lights through the years for night fishing, everything from ones held between my teeth, to hung around my neck to clip on visor hight, even lights on my reading glasses.. the lattest and greatest IMHO ( and most comfortable) is one of those hats sold at Lowes with the light built into the visor, mine had three lights( most have 2, three is much better), one on top of the visor, two undernieth, powered by 4 hearing aid batteries in the brim of the hat and a 3 posistion switch which allow you to select which bulbs you want on), this thing is the cats meow... the lights are made by panther vision and are a purple/violet light.. they dont effect your night vision...or bother the fish. I paid about $20 for it...
The Dad Fisherman 11-11-2009, 10:20 AM I need new wading boots....desperately. Need one in the EEE width which seems like a huge problem finding.

The one I have has white LED's, which I used a red sharpie on the front light. I love this hat because the under bill lights aim right where you need them....the best lighted hat I've seen very comfortable and perfect for fishing ...although it can't be washed.

The Simms G4 are very wide and might work....though pricey and the rubber soled ones are only so/so for comfort when standing on rock.

Never wash a fishing hat... bad mojo...
Back Beach 11-11-2009, 12:16 PM Its definitely my funny hat purchased at LL Bean.
Although I rarely fish beyond mid october due to the long, windy, cold nights with nothing to show for it, I like the hat for those below average summer nights in August when there's a nip to the air.
As for other stuff, I stopped buying Skoal a couple years ago as Redlite typically carries multiple tins on him and I simply sponge off his stash. People think I follow him around for the guide service, but its really the free Skoal. :uhuh:
Also, I'm offering 99 bucks for the copyrights to the sea robin picture in my avatar. You could purchase a bunch of fingerless gloves for 99 bucks, your nose will thank you, and I'll brag to the uninformed masses about the bottom fish I took on a topwater plug...still never seen anyone do it before you....I'm jealous :laugha:
MAKAI 11-11-2009, 12:24 PM my dive belt for all my bat gear
tattoobob 11-11-2009, 04:08 PM Have you seen it with any fish on it??? Lately???

Raven 11-11-2009, 04:55 PM Never wash a fishing hat... bad mojo...
that depends if you sweated out the visor....even a little bit...
had a yellow jacket blow into my car the other day smacks me in the forehead and stung me instantly because i had just finished splitting a bunch of wood.
that wasn't the first time either... hornets (especially yellow jackets)
hate the smell of human sweat !!!! mojo or not
quick decision 11-11-2009, 05:04 PM skinz back support
Flaptail 11-11-2009, 05:33 PM Having an extra foot in height over everybody else combined with tall sized waders.:uhuh:
BigFish 11-11-2009, 05:37 PM Don't you have enough??? Or do you just want to be that much taller than me???!!:rotf2:
Slipknot 11-11-2009, 06:20 PM I'd love to have a boga grip but aren't they a lot of dough for a 60 lb one? I need to be more careful with trebles when wading.
Be a good Christmas present I guess.
Other than that I can't afford anymore fishing stuff.
BigFish 11-11-2009, 06:30 PM Boga is on my want list! Need one for the yak!
afterhours 11-11-2009, 06:45 PM Sure Did Eddy got a nice 25 +/- pound striper

leo33 11-11-2009, 06:54 PM the fish grip.best $13 i've spent on fishing.no rust and it floats.
Slipknot 11-11-2009, 07:00 PM best $13 i've spent on fishing.no rust and it floats.
plastic vise grips?
leo33 11-11-2009, 07:01 PM perfect for grabbing blues and if needed on a bass minimal damage.
numbskull 11-11-2009, 07:10 PM Plastic lip gripper. They weigh next to nothing and look like they would work well on bluefish and small bass......which are exactly the fish I want it for.
pbadad 11-11-2009, 07:26 PM My backpack. I put all the essentials in it. Hook cutting pliers, xtra plugs, hooks, mosquito repellent, hand warmers, rags, fillet knife, plastic bags etc. Leave it behind on a rock. It's a LL bean w/reflective striping. Shine the light and it shows up.
redlite 11-11-2009, 08:45 PM mY AskinZ Dring rod holder (even though it is rusted up after 2 seasons...typical). makes it easier to hold my long pole when I need to use more than both hands.
Sea Dangles 11-11-2009, 09:02 PM Small bass scare me! I dumped my small boga and have been happy with the rapala 50 pound scale TO left in my rig.I guess my favorite gadget would also be the VS large pliers.Pistachios are also on the list along with cloth tape.
ivanputski 11-11-2009, 09:14 PM sunflower seeds are mandatory... secret weapon...
RI Plugger 11-11-2009, 10:28 PM A dry rag.
I use a old dishtowel, tuck it right into my wading belt, dropped it one night getting back into the car , went back the next day the thing was ripped to pieces, some varmint must have smelled the fish.
MikeToole 11-11-2009, 11:19 PM After years of wading out through 200 yards of slippery rocks and rock weed, which involved many falls. I finally got a wading stick. Can get out there twice as fast with almost no falls. Comes in handy for many different things. I'm just using one of my old bamboo ski poles fitted with a metal point on the end. Clip it to my belt when not using.
tattoobob 11-12-2009, 01:29 AM last night?
Yes,
stiff tip 11-12-2009, 06:39 AM i got it ......a new dill-do w/ fresh batteries:love:

Me too. The ski pole is a great idea. I just used a hardwood mop handle and put a EVA rod grip on it. Makes a world of difference.
