View Full Version : Purple Flag Blues - Live from Block Island
The gangs all still here on Block. Fishing has been somewhat a slow pick with a few good nights thrown into the mix. Bass into the mid twenties on needles. 6 inch sand eels in the rockweed. Darter Al, Zeke Redfin, Denny Needlefish, Tagger and Tattoo Bob have all taken a few decent fish. The dreaded purple flag (which means no ferries running) has been up for the past two days and all indications look like Saturday will be the same and we'll be stuck here for an extra day. Were making the best of a windy situation but being on Block during a storm allows one to see just how awesome the seas can be. Gannets diving on bait, bucks chasing does during the midwatch, the wind whistling through the wires. Fishing hard knowing the next cast may be our last.
Soon we'll be back and we'll have vivid memories of casts gone by.

piemma 11-14-2009, 04:35 AM Oh boy do I remember a couple of "purple flag" November trips. Great place to be stranded in a storm. Back in my drinking days I would have a 5th of Markers Mark and a carton of Merit 100s. Drink all day and fish all night. Sleep just enough to get sober.
afterhours 11-14-2009, 07:10 AM hey dennis, thanks for dinner! that zeke- what a shy guy, does he ever speak :) say hi to the guys for me. wish you all large!

Crafty Angler 11-15-2009, 11:09 AM Hey, Dennis - I got my report from Uncle Zeke the other night via wireless phone...:hihi:
Glad to hear you all got into fish - all I could think of during this nor'easter was '99 when we were all there on BI during the Perfect Storm...
Yup, you want whitewater, the Island will give it to ya...and the wind she blows...:hs:
See ya back on the big island for the play by play over a bloooberry or two...:kewl:
I could think of a lot worse places to be "stuck". Hope you guys have a good supply of provisions. :buds:
