I just got an email from the Buckeye Brook Coalition regarding the 2009 herring count:
Members and Friends of the Buckeye Brook Coalition:
The results are in! Phil Edwards, the RI DEM person who heads our annual fish monitoring program, has provided the following result for 2009 and has set it into perspective.
“2009 Buckeye Brook River Herring Spawning Stock Size = 31,697
2003 - 38,949
2004 - 5,010
2005 - 18,707
2006 - 9,428
2007 - 18,587
2008 - 34,629
2009 - 31,697
Since 2004 we have seen some improvement as with other runs in the state.”
Many thanks to Phil for his leadership on this issue. We can only hope that these numbers will improve considerably in the coming years.
Sincerely,
Bill Aldrich

Beats the alternative. Now we need to see good results elsewhere
