View Full Version : Surfcaster's Journal magazine
Hi guys
Sorry I am a bit late and some of you already have seen it but I've been running on fumes since last night :buds::wall::smash:
Surfcaster's Journal, 155 page free surf fishing magazine is now live at www.surfcastersjournal.com
Our recommendation is that you view it in Magazine view and Full screen view. We feel you'll get most out of it that way.
We hope you like it
Sincerely
Zeno Hromin
I'll go grab another shot of something, crawl in the corner and pass out...again:)
When I opened it up I kind of felt like I did the first time I walked into a tackle shop when a new delivery of Hab's had just been delivered. I haven't felt like that about anything fishing related aside from actually fishing in a long time. I can't believe how much content there is and even the products mentioned are all things that I would consider using. Simply amazing. I can't wait to get home from work.
PRBuzz 12-07-2009, 03:45 PM I'm not even a surfcaster and couldn't put it down until I read from cover to cover. Great start to hopefully what is a long running success. The format is great and even the font is easy on the (old) eyes.
agsurfr 12-07-2009, 03:46 PM Agreed-- very well done--remarkable job. Kinda takes the sting out of putting gear away for the winter.

MassBass 12-07-2009, 07:22 PM Just wanted to congratulate and to thank you Z and crew. I knew it was going to be something special. Got the email with the announcement today while at work and although I could have read it then I restrained from it til I got home. It was like knowing you were about to unwrap a gift which you knew you were going to enjoy. It was well worth the wait! Thanks guys!
quick decision 12-07-2009, 08:04 PM I love the journel. I realy love the looks of Saltys 5 oz canal monster! I have been waiting for the grand opening since Zeno invited us into his world back a few months ago. I can say it was better than I expected. Well done Zeno. I read it cover to cover and I felt like a kid on Christmass morning again.
numbskull 12-07-2009, 09:15 PM Loved the Santa bit. Nice.

RI Plugger 12-07-2009, 10:39 PM Way to go Zeno....
I love the intro "We are also sleep-deprived-secretive and broke, just like you."
I had to read that one to my wife, so she knows I am not the only nut.
:biglaugh:
piemma 12-08-2009, 04:13 AM Remarkable effort and a treat for us old surfcasters. Saw many old friends within the pages.
Crafty Angler 12-08-2009, 05:13 AM Nicely done, Zeno...:kewl:
Now the only question is whether it's gonna make the winter seem longer or shorter...:smokin:
Either way, thank you - GREAT job!
Fish_Eye 12-08-2009, 06:23 AM Congratulations and wishing you much success with the e-zine...I've always believed that this would be the future for magazines, however, it seems as if they will be last ones to catch on. So far it's "Marlin" and "Surcaster's Journal" -- nice job...hope you go viral.
Plum Crazy 12-08-2009, 09:15 AM You have truely captured the essence of surfcasting.

PaulS 12-08-2009, 12:30 PM Nice, I'm sure even Mr. Phillip Edwards of Burkina Faso will like it.
Saltheart 12-08-2009, 02:12 PM Great Job Zeno and his team. I was surprised how many pages it has for a first issue. Best of luck in the future with it. It says the next issue is expected in February. Is it the plan to be bimonthly?
PaulS 12-08-2009, 04:19 PM I'm usually not very productive at work but today I was less productive than normal.
Nice, I'm sure even Mr. Phillip Edwards of Burkina Faso will like it.
LMAO
Nice job Zeno - you must not sleep much....
I'll sleep pleanty when I am dead
Thanks guys but the credit goes equally to my partner Tommy Corrigan as it applies to me. He laid out every single page in there and he created every single "new" ad in there. Including that sick looking Salty's one
I think you have to admit that ads for the first time actually ad beauty to publication instead of taking away from it. Yeah, they are that good, not that we have many.
I am glad you guys liked it and we hope to bring you the best content we can find and afford. If any of you would like to submit a story, I cant promise we will publish it but I can promise that if we do, Tommy going to make it look gorgeous
Is it a lot of pages ? I guess, but we cut out another twenty page article not to overdo on our first try. Someone asked about timeline...it will be a quarterly publication for now.
We are just tickle that you guys liked it...a lot of work went into making this the most visually appealing and content rich magazine ever done for surfcasters.
Oh yeah, don’t congratulate me or Tommy, I rather this be "our" magazine, meaning surfcasting community, then "mine or his"
We are not doing this for fortune or fame but for the love of the sport
Sincerely
Zeno

Thanks guys, it really means a lot to us. I it very gratifying that all our work found a greatful and appreciative audience.
Al, next issue is March 7th and it should (baring disasters) feature a major retrospective on a life of Al Bentsen from some very unusual Cape writers, maybe some herring ruin,Martha's Vineyard, NJ plug builder, Cuttyhunk road trip and then some. Plus we are working on a major event for next year. But we need few weeks till we can unveil the details
