I vote for:
Day the Earth Stood Still
followed closely by:
War of the Worlds

I'll agree with both of those....

how about Planet of the Apes or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

pretty much if its a Classic...leave it the Eff Alone.....

probably take less time to try and list remakes that were better than the classics

I am a purist......that being said I loved the War of the Worlds remake! Have not seen The Day The Earth Stood Still!

Worst remake of a classic is the remake of Miracle on 34th Street with Sebastion Cabot!!!! Horrible!:yak:

The remake of The Big Sleep was pretty bad. Robert Mitchum isn't Bogie---not by a long shot

It's coming folks. They are remaking Red Dawn.

Yes, the classic teen angst good -v- evil of my generation, Red Dawn, where good 'ole USA is invaded by the evil Soviets, is being filmed.

I can't see how today's politically correct revisionist Hollywood is going to pull this one off. Charging across the hills in a Prius, getting chased by the Chinese... :buds:

Sometimes I think Ted Turner had a better idea: colorize the classics don't re-shoot. I do like the B&W originals and just making a comment.

So....pretty much any remake would qualify.

My only "partial" exception was the "War of the Worlds" remake.
Although they didn't build up the story as much as the original (You know how a story builds momentum as the plot develps?), they did try to make the aliens more like the originals from the H.G.Wells story. Beyond that it was just Hollywood crap-filled garbage.

Give me the classics any day of the week, colorized or not!

Turner should die painfully for colorizing Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon.

Or at least be locked in a room and forced to listen to his ex-old lady's political diatribes for weeks on end.

Remake of The Omen and remake of The Shining.Totally agree with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...even Gene Wilder said it was made just for the money and was awful!

IMDb Video: The Bishop's Wife (http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi434176793/)
The remake of the Christmas classic, The Bishop's Wife, with Denzel Washington in the Cary Grant role and Whitney Houston in the Loretta Young lead....pathetic...

I generally find most remakes to be terrible.

The remake of Pelham 123 wasn't bad though.

Probably the best remake was Dawn of the Dead.If you liked the classic Romero original the remake is mind blowing.Another great horror remake is Rob Zombie's version of Halloween.

But overall I tend to stayaway from remakes until I've heard enough good things about it.
