At the theater near me you can buy the tickets online (for a small additional fee) and then pick them up at the Box office. Going to the IMAX 3D in Natick, mid-week matinee so less likely to be sold out especially with the school breaks the following 2 weeks. We also get to save a couple $$ on ticket prices. This is likely to surpass Titanic which turned out to be a blockbuster but I more liken it to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. vineyardblues 12-17-2009, 12:29 PM Let the girl friend do the Pee Wee Herman act with the ___ _____ :rotf2: Rockfish9 12-17-2009, 12:30 PM Just looked at the IMAX schedule and Natick is mostly sold out for this weekend and there are only a few shows in Reading still available. For maybe the third time in his career, the immodest Canadian has made "the most expensive movie ever," confident that showmanship never goes out of style. He was right about "Terminator 2," and he was right about "Titanic," and at this stage it looks more than likely he'll be proved right about "Avatar," too. Already it feels like an epochal movie, a landmark fantasy film on par with "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings." Like those (very different) movies, "Avatar" stretches the bounds of the cinematic imagination. It shows us something we've never seen before: an entire alien world, a new and complex ecosystem rendered in three dimensions with dazzling fluidity and detail. But it did break the record for a film opening in 3-D, previously held by last summer's "Up" with $68.1 million. James Cameron launched his science-fiction epic "Avatar" into a safe orbit as the costly film soared to No. 1 with $73 million domestically and $159.2 million overseas, for a $232.2 million worldwide total. With that big a start, distributor 20th Century Fox was quick to proclaim it made a good investment with the estimated $400 million spent to make and market the film, which is Cameron's first narrative feature since 1997's "Titanic," the king of modern blockbusters. The stuff I have read are pretty black and white. People loved it or hated it with about 85% thumbs up. Most of my movies come from Redbox now. $1.00. Can't beat that. JohnnyD 12-21-2009, 12:42 PM Hmmm, that puts it at.....Dare I say.....Number 9 All Time Worldwide Opening Records at the Box Office (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/worldwideopenings.htm) Another interesting note, from the looks of that list Avatar is one of two non-sequels on the top 10 and highest rank of the two. So TDF, I'm just wondering, what's your favorite color? MarshCappa 12-21-2009, 01:10 PM :lurk: This might get a little more interesting now with the interpretation of the revenues. Nebe 12-21-2009, 02:07 PM Reports have the weekend sales at 73 million....not top 10!Due to the falling value of the dollar, this movie was actually supposed to be at 8 Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device PaulS 12-21-2009, 02:34 PM I hear Cameron was complaining that theaters were selling tickets to Spike Lee's new movie to people who asked for Avatar and directing them to the Avatar theater to keep the take down and for BFL to win his bet. The Dad Fisherman 12-27-2009, 06:51 PM Did ya IMAX it?..... Saltheart 12-27-2009, 07:23 PM I went today and thought it was a great movie. I went to the 3D but not at an IMAX theater. I don't think the 3D makes much difference though. Would also be just as good in 2 D. Anyway , I would recommend it to anybody! :kewl: eastendlu 12-27-2009, 09:06 PM I tried going yesterday 3 different movie theaters 12 screenings and all booked up untill the 10 pm show.I will try again later this week. JohnR 12-27-2009, 09:07 PM In 3D, not IMAX. Schedule wasn't great for IMAX - maybe on second viewing ;) PRBuzz 12-28-2009, 07:25 AM Avatar 9th overall after 2 weeks: Based on its first 10 days in U.S. theaters, "Avatar" ticket sales rank ninth among blockbusters at that mile marker, behind hits including "The Dark Knight," "Spider-Man" and this year's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." Strong IMAX showing: Greg Foster, Imax Corp.'s chairman and president for filmed entertainment, said nearly every "Avatar" showing at the company's 242 locations around the world had been sold out for 10 days. Imax locations have generated more than $39 million in "Avatar" sales so far, Mr. Foster said. By way of comparison, he said it took "The Dark Knight" six weeks to sell $45 million worth of Imax tickets—a level he expects "Avatar" to achieve after just 13 days in theaters. This is funny because I saw it on the opening weekend in Kingston(12pm) and there were maybe 20 of us in the theater. Plenty of seats. Based on that I thought it wouldn't do as well as predicted but it seems to be doing just fine. It better though because of the budget to make this was astromomical. I might see it again but will probably wait to see it on dvd. Raven 12-28-2009, 10:31 AM you didnt say if you liked it or not John MarshCappa 12-28-2009, 10:33 AM Loved it Craig! My son really liked it too. Are you going to see it if you haven't already? Worth seeing IMHO. Raven 12-28-2009, 10:47 AM Yes at some point we will probably to celebrate the day we have heat again. :soon:but  MAC 12-28-2009, 05:21 PM Mary and I went to see it on Christmas day. 6:40 show was sold out. (we got the last 2 tickets) Movie was in 3D. I thought it was a great movie. I believe it would have been just as good in digital and no 3D glasses. Glasses gave me a slight headache. That could have been because our seats were so close. Definetly worth seeing. Raven 12-28-2009, 06:10 PM visual over load :uhuh: Raven 12-28-2009, 06:15 PM Actually "Legend" was a fairy tale type movie with Tom Cruise, unicorns, the son of satan, goblins, and stuff. "Fire, Fire, burning higher, making music like a choir". "I am Legend " had Will Smith. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ best part of LEGEND was when will Smith's character Keel hauled that mofo creepy outta that warehouse by dumping a car off the bridge..... now that's the way to catch a seal :uhuh: Rockport24 12-30-2009, 04:09 PM Ok just got back from the IMAX 3D showing of this (I got tickets online on Saturday for this!) granted this is the only movie I've ever seen in IMAX, but it was by far the most amazing viewing experience I've even had. It just blew me away from start to finish! eastendlu 12-30-2009, 10:24 PM Just got back from watching it with my wife at Imax.Larry you should go and see it even my wife enjoyed it.:kewl: ReelCrazy1 12-30-2009, 11:21 PM Avatar totally blew me away. Loved the 3D, I've never seen anything decent in 3D before. The story wasn't too bad, considering its basically Disney's Pocahontis but in space... Saw it in South Kingstown on Christmas day, theatre was pretty empty. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
