National Weather Service Watch Warning Advisory Summary (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=RIZ006&warncounty=RIC009&firewxzone=RIZ006&local_place1=3+Miles+SSW+Narragansett+Pier+RI&product1=Blizzard+Watch)
Hopefully this blows up! Due back to work sunday morning from vacation, hopefully this fixes that:jump1:
ProfessorM 12-18-2009, 04:46 PM I'm really bummed. My snow blower goes in for service on Monday. Mice ate the electrical wires and I was thinking I dodged the bullet hearing the forecast a few days ago. Friggin foot of snow is going to suck. Guess I will have to locate my shovel and start stretching my back.
PRBuzz 12-18-2009, 05:07 PM Channel 7 called it a Rt24 storm with potentials to 2 ft: thunder snow and coastal effects. Blizzard watches from Hull all around the coast changing to warnings on LI.
Eeek - bad week for hurting store owners to get hit with a blizzard
Raider Ronnie 12-18-2009, 05:57 PM :kewl:

Striperhound 12-19-2009, 11:27 AM RI will be out of milk and break for months after this store. Dont worry guys I can fed ex you milk and bread from NY if you run into shortages. :rotf2::rotf2::rotf2:
Why does the government have to be in the snow removal business anyway?
It would be better if snow removal was privatized and we were not paying state pensions to people driving snow plows. That way you just pay them to clear the snow today, and you don't have to continue paying them thirty years after the snow is gone.

Some towns have privatized it to an extent. In Mansfield, I believe they have a handful of year-round DPW employees drive trucks owned by the town and any extra work is handed out to freelance plows.
At least the storm is coming early in the week and not right in the middle of when people will be traveling for Christmas.
JohnR 12-19-2009, 12:01 PM Why does the government have to be in the snow removal business anyway?
Because Dunkin Donuts lobbys the legislature :rotf2:
(OK, that was a joke I just made up, sounded funny)
PRBuzz 12-19-2009, 12:05 PM I had a momentary panic attack this morning, not because I was out of milk or bread but I was out of BEER!
Feel better now, got Sam's Winter before the liquor store ran out. Surprise as there were no lines.

Crafty Angler 12-20-2009, 07:21 AM I woke up at 6 AM and opened the front door while my 1st cup of starter fluid was brewing...saw some guy walking down Thames St in near white out conditions, the poor SOB looked like Shackleton leaning into the teeth of a gale...
Won't be able to open the back door to let the dogs out until I walk around the building to shovel it out after I finish my coffee...
I'd have to say we've got an honest 14-15" by now if not more judging by the snow on top of my wife's Jeep out front - with drifts pretty much bunghole deep to a 10 foot Indian...:hs:
Winds are a steady 30 MPH - Ch 12 said gusts of 50 were clocked here during the night
That's it for now from the Lower Tems Weather Observatory in Newport - stay tuned for updates
quick decision 12-20-2009, 07:27 AM I would say we have 5 to six inches. The wind is blowing hard, and there are drifts over two feet in many places.
BigFish 12-20-2009, 07:42 AM Crafty said "Bunghole"!:rotf2:
striperman36 12-20-2009, 07:53 AM today is cancelledb due to snow
BigFish 12-20-2009, 08:06 AM Only got 2 inches here........but over there is about 14 inches so I don't know how much snow we got?:rotf2:
basswipe 12-20-2009, 08:18 AM My driveway is looking pretty intimidating right now.Don't exactly know how much but when I shoveled the steps and a spot for the dogs the snow was right up to my knees.
Took my aleve and glucosamine/chondroiton.I guess its time.
spence 12-20-2009, 08:20 AM Man, it's cold out there...this isn't going to be fun digging the cars out.
Supposed to still snow for another few hours.
I'd say we did get a foot, but it's drifting all over.

If anyone knew what Sir Ernie looked like walking into those teeth, it must have been the Chuck, the Photo Geek taking the picture :rotf2: .
Looks like about a foot here, based on averaging whats on the left and whats on the right.
20 bucks says no neighborhood kids will be around to shovel for $20
Steve K 12-20-2009, 09:29 AM About 10" here in Cambridge. At least it is light.
cheferson 12-20-2009, 09:36 AM Buried in gansett! Looks about foot and a half of snow. Couldnt open any of the doors, wifes car is buried in a drift. Looks to be about 2 ft on the roads. My parents in portsmouth said the plow truck is stuck on their street! Heh. Dog had a hell of a time bustin a leak in neck deep snow. Then i noticed it was bloody red! How am i gonna drive the dog to the vet in this? Then the makers haze cleared and i remembered i had fed the dog a bunch of beet skins last night.:rotf2:

Maybe all the plow trucks are stuck in Middletown too. I can see what appears to be evidence they came through early in the storm but nothing since.
Be safe today everyone, I don't think any emergency situation can be addressed very easily until they get the roads cleared a bit.
cheferson 12-20-2009, 09:53 AM Even the main roads look like crap here

Eddie, those kids who used to shovel were us - and that was a long time ago, amigo...
Besides, if you think a kid is gonna go out and actually work shoveling when he can stay inside with PlayStation...pfftttt
I've got my sidewalk down to bare pavement, sanded & salted...:musc:
THe tale of the tape is almost 19" in the lee of the house, no drifts
My bride is making a chourico omelet right now while I take a break and have my coffee...:)
Hey, who knows, it's kinda romantic, maybe with the blizzard and all I can play Manwell, the lusty Portuguese gardener and she can be Mrs Smithington, the bored Newport socialite...just like we used to...:heybaby:
Hey, it could happen, ya know...:hee:
MAKAI 12-20-2009, 10:51 AM My driveway is barely 3 car lengths long.
A kid with a snow blower wanted $60 to do the driveway and 30 ft of side walk.
Told him I will take 5 aspirin and do it myself.
cheferson 12-20-2009, 12:51 PM My friends and I used to make a killing shoveling driveways when we were kids. We had one lady we would always hit up first. She would always give us $120+ to clean up her driveway. Also work is cancelled!!! Yeah! Doesnt matter really though as my road still has 2ft of snow!
Pete F. 12-20-2009, 12:51 PM I wish it would snow here
