I have in the town I work several areas where the elderly and disabled live in subsidised housing. Over the years I have met many of them. Sometimes you can make them happy and sometimes it can be no use trying.

One particular woman I have talked too probably 50 plus times in the last ten years is especially obstreperous. To give you and idea about her I'll tell you about the first time I met her face to face. By the way she didn't know it, but I know her son who refuses to speak with her on any level.

So this lady calls the station and complains so loud over the phone about something we couldn't understand I was sent down in a cruiser. When I arrive I walk into the little apartment to see this lady sitting at her kitchen table shoveling a lobster roll down her throat. She had another on standby she was going to devour when she was though with the first one. She got them at Christo's, so I know they were no bargain. What I was sent there for was to take a complaint about how a female double amputee across the way has a motorcycle and two vehicles parked on the property, and to the complainants way of thinking it wasn't right that the double amputee had so much more than her. This was being said as she was starting in on the second lobster roll. I tried to get this lady to explain to me why she felt that she was lacking when she is all in piece and able to move around without hobbling or using a walker or crutches. Since this first visit, their have been so many phones calls made by the lobster roll lady making complaints about the amputee that it borders on harassment. I know that the lobster roll lady on occasion yells the vilest words out her door to the amputee, and the amputee can be quite salty in return. Old age can be blamed for some of what the lobster lady has done and said, but I truly believe the lobster lady is the meanest person I have ever come across.

The day after the snow storm the double amputee cleaned the snow of off her car and several others including the lobster lady grump. Well the lobster lady calls and complains because the double amputee is leaving the snow on the street and around the parking spaces making a mess. The maintainance crew cleans it all up for the residents. I asked her if she cleaned her car off and she wouldn't answer.

Too make matters worse she has a scanner and knows when I am on the desk, so that generates calls in and of itself. She calls the other day and ask for the chief thinking all her problems and complaints are so important they have to be kicked upstairs. I tell her the chief is out, " well when is she going to be back?" I say three months, and now she has to know whats wrong. I just repeat myself myself that is going to be three months before she is available. She then ask for the deputy chief. Lobster lady grump says at least when the deputy tells her off he does it with class, and he is better looking.

I know the snow has gotten to the lobster roll lady. I also know when I work christmas day she is going to call and ridicule me like she has for the last ten years. What she doesn't know is I put the phone down on the desk and do other stuff now. I pick it up every few minutes and go yup, yup, oh, and put it back down.

What is she going to do when I retire this July?

After reading that, I conclude that you need to spend some time with the Deputy Chief to learn some people skillz so you can tell her off with a little class. Probably not much you can do in the looks dept though. :rotf2: J/K Frank.:smash:

No it was my day off. Yesterday and today. Merry Christmas. She says I'm rude, but at least I tell her the truth.

obstreperous.

Quality use of the English language.

I had to go look that one up, although I was able to gather the general meaning thanks to the rest of the post. :)
