well after looking at the great fishing rods saturday night i started a butt wrap on sunday, i have not put on any guides or guide wraps as i will be buying a new reel so i have not done any test casting. did i jump the gun doing a butt wrap before doing the guides. should i apply finish now that it's done, or maybe CP for now. i have the handle and reel seat finished along with cork tape grips. can i apply finish to just the butt section for now then go on?
thanks in advance

I personally prefer to do the butt wrap last, since it's more important to get the guides properly aligned on the rod spline. As long as your close on the buttwrap axis and rod spline, it makes no difference. Definately suggest you put at least one coat of finish on the butt wrap to protect and lock in into place, then move on to the guides.
