my family just recently purchased a 24 CC w/ T top and was wondeirng what some of the good radars are on the market right now in the $1500 to $2000 price range. i've used radar before but im not to familiar with what i should be steering towards or away. . . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You will get many different responses to this. What you want to think about is how you will use the boat, and if you want the Radar as part of an overall navigation package.

Personally I have a Garmin 18" Radome with a 4208 Screen. The reasons why I chose Garmin is I liked the interface #1, I also liked that I didn't need a new compass with a rate interface for Radar direction heading, #2, and I was able to do the whole install as it is pretty much plug and play.

I have used this radar on Vineyard Sound is some real lousy weather and 0 visability at night and the combined Nav and Radar has been very useful in my experience.

I would recommend spend time at West Marine playing with all the different units, and maybe visit the boat show and talk to the reps. It is a good way to see what is out there.

I would suggest a color unit, and one that can interface with your gps

There are lots of choice and alot has to do with your like/dislike of the interface (s). Try before you buy

I have and love the Furuno. I would say get a digital color model. The digital cleans up the picture greatly and the color is a great feature. 4 kw at a minimum if you want to locate birds.

I had the Furuno 1715 on my SeaCraft and I loved it.

I think for that price range you'll have a hard time finding color, but you can interface it with your plotter. It won't find bird pods, but at night or in the fog it will keep you safer.

get a used 4208 off ebay you wont be disapointed.
I would go color first, the old crt green screen second, and lcd last.

thanks for all the input guys... i went to the providence boat show and got to look at several models in person. i appreciate everything again, and should be making a decision come spring in case any new models pop out right before the season.
