A friend I have coffee with more morning than not had Alvin Hollis at his house because his burner crapped out. He expected to pay between $8000.00 and $9000.00 for a whole new heating system and booster tank before the day is over.

For just a furnace Frank??? That sounds like they are screwing him! Most furnace's are around $3,000 installed? Roughly of course! Have your friend get a couple of additional estimates to make sure that price is in line???!!!:uhuh:

Sounds like a lot unless it's a big job or complicated install. Ours was about $5,500 for a top end Buderus unit with a stainless hot water tank added as a 5th zone.

Frank define "heating system"? Oil or gas? Furnace or boiler? By system do you mean just the furnace/boiler or all duct work and what not??

Thats a nice unit Spence and alot more reasonable price! Alvin Hollis likes to "hold up" its customers as they feel they are a captive audience with no options! Frank.....make damn sure your friend fields at least 2 other estimates for the job!

I'd note that price was a few years ago, so I'd expect it to be more, but not 3+ grand more...

Brother in law bought a two-family house in September. Furnace for his tenant died 3 days before Christmas. I think he said the final cost to completely replace it was around $5k.
